Warm Audio WA-87 R2 | Condenser Microphone (Black)
Capturing the legendary sound of one of history's most revered studio microphones, the WA-87 R2 represents a significant leap forward from its predecessor through meticulous component selection and engineering refinement. This remarkable microphone incorporates premium elements including a NOS Fairchild transistor, high-bandwidth polystyrene and film capacitors from Wima, and a custom-wound Cinemag USA output transformer that provides enhanced output level and improved frequency response. The capsule remains faithful to the exact specifications found in the original vintage units, creating an incredibly accurate sonic replica of arguably the most widely-used studio microphone in popular recording history. The WA-87 R2 maintains the versatility that made its vintage inspiration so beloved, featuring three polar patterns (cardioid, omni, and figure 8) to handle diverse recording applications. An 80Hz high pass filter effectively reduces low-frequency rumble when required, whilst the switchable -10dB pad proves invaluable when recording extremely loud sources without overloading the internal electronics. This microphone excels across vocals, drum overheads, guitars, piano, auxiliary percussion, brass, strings, and countless other sources. Now housed in a heavier, stronger and larger nickel-plated brass body, the WA-87 R2 features a new rounded head basket shape that creates additional space around the capsule for an even more pleasing sonic signature. With authentic vintage warmth and smooth detailed top end, this microphone performs on par with units costing five times as much or more, all whilst maintaining the same accessible price point as the original WA-87 - making it possible to stock several in your microphone collection.

Very clear and detailed microphone. Clearly isn't a replacement for an original 87 but has a nice warm character to it that is still very impressive.

For me I desperately needed a mic upgrade. I was using the blue baby bottle and that mic did nothing for my voice (deep male rap/r&b vocals). The warmth and how the mic responds to my heavy plosives was a clear step above what I had in my mic locker. Great purchase!

It will capture your voice so your voice can capture imaginations.

Overall:We have three main studios and have the usual mic locker collection. We’ve bought 2 Warm mics including this one.The clarity and transparency of this mic is phenomenal and records as wellor better than our old 87. We love the build quality and the nice wood box. These guys knocked this one out of the park
Warm Audio reproduces a lot of classic mic's at a fraction of the cost. The WA-87 R2 is no different. This is one of my warmest mic's in my arsenal and is perfect for vocals, acoustic guitars, electric guitar and bass amps and cabinets, piano and even as drum overheads. I use this mic in almost every application and it goes perfectly with Warm Audio's TB-12 mic pre-amp. Check out their other reproductions if you want some classic high-end microphones.
I read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of vids before buying. I have a Shure SM81 for recording acoustic and a Shure SM7B for vocals and I like them both , but still wanted a traditional looking mic. I truly believe Warm Audio assembled the best mic for the money and would I have known first, I would not have purchased any other mics. This mic provides the warm silky tone I was looking for when recording vocals and it captures the sound of my Taylor 324 like no other mic. If you are looking for a one and done mic to do it all then you should consider this Warm Audio mic. I know I am a very happy buyer.
The Warm Audio WA-87 R2 is a good microphone. Very clean and focused sound. The bass is smooth and pleasant. The treble, however, needs care in how you place the micplaced badly, it can be a bit hard and glassy. But if you experiment a little, the treble can be quite good. This is a big and heavy mic. (It would be a formidable weapon in a bar fight.) So be sure you have a sturdy mic stand. When it comes to mics, Warm Audio aims to reproduce great vintage microphones at a fraction of the cost. The WA-87 is modeled after the venerable (and expensive) Neumann U 87. But bear in mind that the WA-87 isnt an exact reproduction. If you think youre getting a Neumann U 87 at a bargain price, youll be disappointed. Rather, youre getting a excellent mic at this price point. ... MoreThe Warm Audio WA-87 R2 is a good microphone. As good a mic as I will ever need. I’ve seen several shootouts where it holds its own against very expensive mics.
Lovely mic. have been using very much for my personal studio recording and would reccomend to anyone who is looking for a rich clear sound but wants to be conservative.
This mic definitely has potential and can sound good but I got a defective one. That instantly turned me away from Warm Audio. I decided to just fork out the cash and buy a real U87 instead. If you can't afford a Neumann I'd recommend a wa-87. If you're trying to save money, cut corners or just be cheap, don't. Just buy the Neumann if you can .
