Great budget drives

We buy these drives for our customers that are more on a budget but want the speed! They work great for what they purpose of these drives. With the drives being more on the budget side they don't tend to last as long as the blue drives but are still great SSD! If can afford it the blue drives are quite a bit better. I haven't had to return any as of yet as well!!!

This "green" budget model is designed for low power use, usually used in laptops to replace mechanical drives. The read speed is still very respectable, so it's usable for other things too. The 2 drives I bought are about the speed I expected. Connecting 2 in RAID mode yielded 1.1 GB/s read speed and >900 MB/s write speed. This is plenty for almost every purpose. I'm using them as a 2 TB game drive and loading times are significantly reduced. I've always trusted western digital drives for reliability and consistency. I've got a 2012 model Blue mechanical drive that's finally showing early signs of failure (out of backup sectors) after years of daily use and abuse. I recommend the brand to everyone except extreme performance enthusiasts with no budget.

Not bad, but not impressive

The disk itself is NOT bad for a cheap class. This is a rebranded "blue", until recently with the SanDisk controller. My firmware was ok. I've run a quick speed test. I knew the data would not be the same as the advertised - but I'm disappointed in the weaker performance than expected. In fact, the cold start and the extinguishing of the machine are "hurried" obviously, in the work and the programs - there is no "magic" sensation. Win Expirience index did not move even with 1/10. But I was really startled by the "support". The necessary "Dashboard" does not go. From the pdf-guide (from their site: download, read, useful) I learned that a patch from M.soft is needed; he is old and is not in the catalog, sends it by mail and puts you at his own risk. From the pdf-guide (from their site: download, read, useful) I learned that a patch from M.soft is needed; he is old and is not in the catalog, sends it by mail and puts you at his own risk. The application does not work again. I buried myself in the forums: the point is that WD really does not support anything. Automatic replies are sent to inquirers. Running Dashboard has for instance a few versions and a few years back (v.1.4.4.5), but he does not "see" the new "green" and "blue" correctly. Complete chaos. As a sufferer I sum up - green WDs are unpretentious, poor and cheap. They will work fairly well and get ... as much as they want. The more incomprehensible users will feel the speed because they are the SSDs, but magic (and site scouting) are needed if you want to control them. With different software that will show you different things. Also, by experience: the "green" disc reveals only 4-5 functions in SMART! I stopped indexing and boot-defragmentation; I transfered the Temporary Directories into another partition of my 2nd HDD; I left the "SWAP (Page)" file - but I configured it 16-1024 MB. I found an "optimizer" - program for the SSD that "sees" some of the necessary features on my disk. I helped her with her. And last: I used two empty USB-Flashes with Ready Boost enabled, and I had extra 2x2 GB of memory - when you stop Prefetch (Superfetch), another widespread recommendation when working with the SSD as a system, you lose the boost function. Yes - I migrated / transferred my OS from my old HDD to the new SSD, with more effort but successful. From WD they offer a tool of another soft (WD do not have one!), but with the registration of the disk / purchase on the site of WD - the application should be paid. I hope i've been usefull.

Not bad, but nothing more...

I apologize for "machine" English, but it's more than nothing. I am a Bulgarian, I manage with German and Russian. 1 month ago I bought this WD in BG for a promotion of about 30 euro. Review of WD Green 240GB SATA 2.5" 7mm Solid State Drive
16 March 2023

Good Points: I bought a couple of these to liven up two older laptops I have. In both cases they’re being used as OS drives rather than main storage. Boot up times have gone down to seconds rather than minutes and as far as I’m concerned they’ve done 100% of the job I wanted them to. I’ve only given a lower score for reliability because I’ve not had them long enough to honestly know the answer to that question. If they live up to the reliability of other WD products I own then the final score will be a 10 also. These drives are simple to fit using existing fittings in a laptop with no modifications. I know green series drives are more designed for NAS or constantly on applications but I just needed a cheap and effective way to do a particular job.
