*Reliable* Western Digital solid state hard drives are 3 to 4 times faster than conventional SATA mechanical drives. They load the operating systems and access data much faster than mechanical SATA hard drives. These are a must in today's world. If you have the opportunity to upgrade your PC or build a new one, the recommended use is to load the operating system to a nice solid state Western Digital and keep a traditional mechanical sata drive as a STORAGE drive (these are so cheap these days). This is a tried and true method that works well! Just using this SSD drive ALONE with an operating system and for storage works well too if you don't have the opportunity to do BOTH drives in the same PC. *This 2.5" drive works well for laptops and desktop PC's*

I just swapped drives from my 500gb Samsung hdd and during the time my system randomly ran sluggish fixed it but I installed the wd green 1tb and to more frank it's out performing my Samsung hdd even when it's almost full. I've had now 2 issues with Samsung products in which one was a 256gb Samsung Evo that corrupted in just a few months and has issues recognizing now and now my Samsung hdd is fixed I have yet to have not had any issues with WD products as I have a WD green SSD and a WD blue hdd and in which neither have given me any issues for gaming no or my laptop.

Light small, fast. I put this in an older desktop to replace a mechanical drive. The mechanical drive would take 60-90 seconds to spin up and loadThis loads in about 15 seconds. The same for programs. I could wait a minute ormore for a large program like photoshop to load. That now opens in about 10 seconds.Sits easy in any open bay and you never hear it 'spin up'.Well worth the extra money for all of the advantages.

I apologize for "machine" English, but it's more than nothing. I am a Bulgarian, I manage with German and Russian. 1 month ago I bought this WD in BG for a promotion of about 30 euro. The disk itself is NOT bad for a cheap class. This is a rebranded "blue", until recently with the SanDisk controller. My firmware was ok. I've run a quick speed test. I knew the data would not be the same as the advertised - but I'm disappointed in the weaker performance than expected. In fact, the cold start and the extinguishing of the machine are "hurried" obviously, in the work and the programs - there is no "magic" sensation. Win Expirience index did not move even with 1/10. In fact, the cold start and the extinguishing of the machine are "hurried" obviously, in the work and the programs - there is no "magic" sensation. Win Expirience index did not move even with 1/10. But I was really startled by the "support". The necessary "Dashboard" does not go. From the pdf-guide (from their site: download, read, useful) I learned that a patch from M$ is needed; he is old and is not in the catalog, sends it by mail and puts you at his own risk. The application does not work again. I buried myself in the forums: the point is that WD really does not support anything. Automatic replies are sent to inquirers. Running Dashboard has for instance 5 versions and 5 years back (v.1.4.4.5), but he does not "see" the new "green" and "blue" correctly. Complete chaos. As a sufferer I sum up - green WDs are unpretentious, poor and cheap. They will work and get ... as much as they want. The more incomprehensible users will feel the speed because they are the SSDs, but magic (and site scouting) are needed if you want to control them. With different software that will show you different things. Also, by experience: the "green" disc reveals only 4-5 functions in SMART! I stopped indexing and boot-defragmentation; I transfered the Temporary Directories into another partition of my 2nd HDD; I left the "SWAT (Page)" file - but I configured it 16-1024 MB. I found an "optimizer" -program for the SSD that "sees" some of the necessary features on my disk. I helped her with her. And last: I used two empty USB-Flashes with Ready Boost enabled, and I had extra 2x2 GB of memory - when you stop Prefetch (Superfetch), another widespread recommendation when working with the SSD as a system, you lose the boost function. Yes - I migrated / transferred my OS from my old HDD to the new SSD, with more effort but successful. Because of WD they offer a tool of Akronis (WD do not have one!), But with the registration of the disk / purchase on the site of WD - the Akronis should be paid. I hope I've been useful.
This SSD has a really good price and believe me I take a lot of time searching for quality and price. Plus reading reviews and talking to others who have tried the product no matter what the product is. After deciding on this SSD it arrived very fast and installed in a old Inspiron E1705 laptop without a hitch. What a difference in speed from the old HDD. Running Windows 10 64bit is much easier now. Everything loads faster and video works quite a bit better considering it has a integrated video that I can not up grade. I would recommend this Western Digital 240 GB SSD to anyone looking for Quality and a decent price.
Honestly, bought this drive alongside a 1TB Blue as a bargain and have been using it as a scratch drive of sorts for rendering video since it's so small. But it's a good, reliable drive. The transfer speeds are slower than the Blue and Black family by Western Digital which might turn people off. But the drive runs cooler than its siblings. This drive, especially in smaller forms like 120GBs, is more than enough to function as a scratch drive if you don't want to overload your main drive with clutter.
Perfect ssd for the pi I didn’t need much space just used for home assistant and it’s a lot better more stable then booting from a micro sd card. When using a micro sd card I would have to reboot the system a few times to get all my devices (entities) to show up once I switched to booting from the ssd I no longer have that problem so that goes to show booting from a micro sd just isn’t ideal and it’s probably a good idea to boot from an ssd no matter what application your running.Worth the investment
Really great purchase. Now booting my Pi 400 from an SSD and I'm so glad I did. Getting much better read and write performance than my previous SD card. What really helps is that both SSD and adapter were sourced from PiHut, and most of all, they have evaluated both for the Pi first.Delivery is always fast as well. For all things Pi, I'm now sticking to the specialist stores such as Pi Hut.
I'm not fond of the WD Green label when it comes to HDD. I've found them to be extremely slow because of their disk speed being 5400 rpm although they do seem to live a long time.I needed some SSD's to use on some machines thatwere purchased with a Windows 7 downgrade and had an HDD. After installing the Windows 8.1 Pro OEM that came with them, I cloned the hard drive to a WD GREEN SSD and in each instance it has resurrected these 2-4 year old desktops. They perform as good as the more expensive brands.Time will tell how they hold up but these have an insane price to performance ratio in my eyes. On the machines they're being used on there is very little user data that is irreplaceable and there isn't a whole lot of writing to the disk and deleting. Mainly being ... Mainly being used as a system disk for domain user's desktops so I imagine they will last at least a few years until the machines get replaced.
Windows 10 was slow to the point of wanting to throw the machine out the window. Slowness was observed whenever logging in. It took minutes, many minutes, before machine was through thrashing the C: drive. Task manager said C: drive was 100% utilized. I couldn't figure out what it was specifically that was doing the thrashing. But I noticed that average response time for the disk was typically up into the 100s of milliseconds while the thrashing was going on (but settling down to normal values after the thrashing stopped). This was a problem. So I decided to replace the WD Blue mechanical drive with this SSD. Problem solved! Now there is no delay when starting up and the average access time is typically below 1 ms.
