Bought a pair of these to replace some old Seagate 3TB death drives I use for backup. I put them in my new OWC dual enclosure, and ran Cystaldisk (2 pass 1GB) on them both. First drive was 260MB/s read, 256MB/s write. Second drive was 255MB/s read and write. Those are sequential...I basically use the drives to backup small and large files. My older 7200RMP drivers were luccky to hit 100MB/s, so this is a sweet upgrade.

This is my first time using WD drive. I used to use HGST but they got acquired by WD a few years ago so I have no other choice. The drive is dead on arrival. It would not spin and had loud clicking sound. I read a lot of bad reviews about WD Red Pro but I wanted to give them a chance. I do not recommend them especially if you are using it for NAS storage. I don't believe the drive will last.

I bought this 6TB Red Pro to replace an 8TB external Seagate drive that had died after being bumped... My second to do so. This drive came nicely packaged and has worked as expected alongside a same sized Toshiba N300 as backup drives in my Linux desktop local file sever at my house. It has only been 2 months, so this review cannot address long term durability or many write cycles.

Solid performing drive. Clear difference using 7200rpm in NAS but has to be both or all drives in RAID to gain full performance. Have had these drives for years with zero issues. Simply upgrading capacity from 3 to 6TB. Super fast shipping. B&H never disappoints.
I've been buying 4TB and 6TB Red pros for years. We only have had one failure and the WD replace process is slow, about two weeks. This 8TB seems to be very quiet.
The hard drive read write times are not the gating factor in performance with a NAS file server and so the higher RPM drives add only more cost and run much hotter. An extra 15 to 20 degrees F may not make a difference but why take the chance? It also requires a higher fan speed for cooling the drives which can be a problem in an office or home office situation. In a NAS enclosure there are dead spaces and certain drives will not get as much cooling from the fan and this can shorten their life. If there was a discernable gain with higher RPM drives it would be different but in a NAS as tests have shown this is not likely to be the case.
I have several of these drives in use for my Synology and other drive enclosures. Everyone continues to perform flawlessly. I just ask that this one do the same.
For our video archive storage, WD Red Pros are my go-to. In the last six years, I've had the most consistent performance and lowest fail rate compared to any other disk brand. I much prefer these to Seagate Barracuda disks.
I needed to increase the capacity of my NAS and check the server manufacturer's compatibility list. The WD 8 TB Red Pro drive were the only Enterprise drives on the list for my NAS. I had been using Seagate drives in the past, but decided to give WD a try. The Pro line comes with a 5-year warranty, which helped seal the deal for me. I installed them one at a time, hot swapped them, to format and mirror the smaller drive already in the system. Once that was complete, I removed the smaller drive and installed the second WD 8 TB Red Pro drive to format, install the operating system and mirror all the files from the first disk. My NAS tells me everything is working fine. It has only been a week, but all seems good.
Needed more diskspace in my desktop for my growing collection of photos. I wanted something fast and multi TB. SSD are still too expensive for this purpose, so I settled on this.Installed it in my Dell 8920 (note: I had to buy a SATA cable).UserBenchMark then gave it some of the highest scores across all HDD, and almost double that of the built-in 1TB Seagate.Using LR Classic CC, it feels speedier when switching between photos.
