Amazing Smoker/Grill/Kamado Cooker!!!!

I've cooked on everything including Big Green Eggs ... THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT "THE BEST" smoker/grill money can buy and I am THRILLED!I like almost EVERYTHING about this cooker except the built in propane igniter. Right out of the box mine is a total bust and waste of space. I would much rather use the Minion method to build a fire for a long cook and/or a simple fire starter. Weber should offer the propane box as an "option" instead ... I hat it and it makes this cooker a pain ... MoreI have been a KCBS competition BBQ pit master for years and also a KCBS certified BBQ judge. There is already a thread online about folks who are removing their propane starter. So, Weber if you're reading this ... let's get rid of this idea, OK?Other than that, I am in LOVE. The BBQ that comes off of this cooker is amazing and it is dead on solid in maintaining temperature for long hours. USE WEBER briquettes as they are very, very good in this cooker.I'm so happy I took the plunge (except for that dumb propane starter).

Weber really knocked this out of the park and “Babe” (named after Paul Bunyan’s big blue Ox) is hands down the best grill I’ve ever owned!!!

I have been using Weber Kettle grills for probably 30 years. I have been very satisfied with them. This is the first one I have owned with a built-in thermometer, and I don't know how I could go back without one. I really like the simple, practical way they work and make grilling easy and efficient. It gets a workout and I recently had to replace the one-touch cleaning system, the blades that act like a vent in the base of the grill. The customer service rep who handled my call did an excellent job of listening to my needs and shipping me the part within a few days. Well done!

It really is a grill and a smoker - pretty amazed
22 November 2020

After a few months I'm loving this thing (I still haven't used it in deep winter though) First, be aware it comes in a very large box, I don't know what it weighed but it was substantial - ultimately though with a bit of grunting and groaning my wife and I carried it up 4 stairs onto the deck but just know it ain't gonna fit in your trunk. I thought the assembly was pretty easy but I also have a heated garage and know my way around some tools, it comes with the wrench needed to assemble but I chose to use my sockets and ratchet. I put it together myself in about and hour and a half, there is a step when you lift the kettle into/onto the "carriage", that step suggests two people and I would say that's a good suggestion. When I went to do the first burn-off it shot up to 600 deg. - that was insane! I don't think I've ever gotten a grill that hot in my life, he reshaped bottom dampers and the top damper flip up opening can make this thing a smelter! Speaking of the bottom damper it feels a bit loose but now that I've run it a dozen times it's all seasoning together nicely and getting snug from the ash etc. while I'm on that my first couple of smokes I couldn't keep the temperature down, I'd completely close the bottom dampers and still was getting too hot - that's getting better as it breaks in, if you like to smoke a lot use it for regular grilling awhile before you smoke a $90.00 hunk of meat. The heat diffuser is great for smoking and a handy spot for the drip pan but the drip pan needs to be narrow enough to still flip the diffuser open, so I stopped trying to keep the diffuser clean and now just put it down directly on the coals to burn it off, it feels tough enough to abuse it a bit. I've found when I smoked wings I don't need the diffuser, just have the fire grate on the lower position, the heat was far enough away not to burn them. By the way, the gas ignition thing is actually pretty slick, seeing it online I thought it seemed stupid but it really is nice, I used it a few times to start a pile of coals but I still prefer the chimney and just set it over the igniter till they're lit, if starting coals on the higher fire grate setting I still light the chimney with newspaper. I don't care for center opening cooking grate, it falls out when you're moving the grate around etc. (hasn't fallen out when cooking though) but I do like it for the accessories it can hold, I got the "beer can chicken", searing grate and the cast iron griddle. The chicken thing and griddle are my favorites... the griddle for breakfast potato's sausage and eggs... I do love lighting a fire in the morning. As for the main cooking grate w/ hole - I think there is a solid grate option, if so I'll get one of those too and use them interchangeably where appropriate. By the way, the cover is nice but only has one Velcro strap, my deck is so GD windy that it blows off I put a chunk of wood on the table to help hold it down, I'm going to add a couple small eye bolt to the carriage and use a long bungee cord across the table. Oh yea, the stainless table is great too, it's far easier to clean than my old performer series - speaking of the performer, I used the rotisserie on that and loved it but I don't see how they could put on the summit... the hinged lid will make that pretty tough to do. About the hinged lid, I really like that too, the performer lid holder was a great upgrade from the standard kettle and now the hinged is a great step up from the performer - good on Weber. The hinge feels a little wobbly because the cradle for the kettle is fairly thin but it's acceptable to me, the metal is made to be somewhat flexible I'd guess and it keeps the weight down. Some people complain about the cheap looking/feeling wheels but I think for rolling around on the deck they're just fine, if I needed to move it a lot I'd put pneumatic tires on it, that'd be pretty easy (Weber, this could be an accessory). The drawer is a bit flimsy and it binds up when opening/closing but it's also dead simple to make it outdoor weather durable as compared to some sort of roller slides would be etc. The tool hanger is okay, but I'd like it to the right hanging off the table like my performer - I will likely fashion one myself. Another note about the table being stainless, if you have magnetic thermometers they won't stick! I had a good laugh about that but I found there is enough ferrous by the propane door to hang mine. I also like the hangers on the end of the table for the cooking racks and the lower bracket for the diffuser those are very nice touches. The grate below the kettle has enough storage for a chimney, charcoal baskets and a chip box. Some people complain about the ash pan feeling flimsy I might have to agree, somehow the one on my performer seems heavier so this might be a wait-and-see. All in all I really like it, I hesitated on the price for about a year but there was a life insurance policy thing that out of nowhere gave me a chunk of cash and I though hey, get yourself that darn grill - it was a good choice. The movable fire grate, hinged top vent, hinged cover, redesigned lower dampers, diffuser plate, gas ignition, stainless table and of course the insulated kettle - she's a keeper. I can't wait to use it in the fast approaching sub-zero weather, I'm confident it'll be even more amazing then. If you've got the funds I say go for it.

If you have the money to spare, this “kettle” will take you anywhere!I just picked this thing up, assembled it and cooked on it yesterday. Some installation notes, make sure that you put the caster leg directly across from the posts for the lid hinge on the ring otherwise you’ll be doing it again. Also, make sure all your bolts are tightened fully before adding the other two wheels on the bottom. The spring clip for the igniter required needle nose pliers to push in the place, or for me to go to the gym. I couldn’t seem to get the lid square in line with the front caster tightening the bolts on the backend still cause it to move slightly to one side will continue to evaluate for leakage. Also, the little wire chain is a match holder if the ignition fails.Cooking notes: This thing is super efficient, whatever charcoal you used to using a different kettle, this one needs much less. The temperatures got so hot that it killed my temperature sensing probe however I’m getting a free one under warranty so be wary of that. One item this grill really needs with it is a great holder for removing at a minimum the center section because tongs will probably cause it to flop all over the place, additionally a charcoal rake is your friend with how deep this amazing grill is.This thing is big and imposing, the double wall construction is quality the grill is quality factoring into the price. I look forward to my first low and slow cooking on it.If you have the space and the money you are not going wrong with this grill! I feel bad for my poor 22”.Also, I don’t know why my pictures uploaded at the incorrect angles, Weber, can you fix it?Loving this grill and look forward to many more uses.

Love the throwback color, quality disappointing

Beautiful Kettle. Take my hat off to Weber for the throwback color. Really like the size of the 26” unit. Felt like the $70 premium at $400 was worth it at time of purchase over the standard black unit priced at $330.Quality control however was severely lacking on the lower bowl. Finish was chipped. Leg receptors were out of align such that the legs crushed the clips on two of the three legs.I will say that Weber customer service has been very responsive and courteous and has offered to make this right. I am hopeful that will be the case as I am still awaiting replacement parts after 5 weeks.Having said that my real regret is that the quality of manufacturing on this product is nowhere near the quality and precision of all the numerous Weber products I have ... MoreBeautiful Kettle. Sadly I assume this is a sign of the times. I have a friend who works for an authorized dealer of Weber products and also has been a loyal customer over the years. He affirmed that the quality has slipped and perhaps is due to moving the manufacturing off shore. If that is the case please bring it back and charge a bit more if necessary to maintain your quality brand and serve your loyal customers.

Superb performance after fixing design flaw
14 December 2018

The grill offers outstanding performance, but required modifications to get there. Having to modify the grill to get the expected level of performance at the price is the only reason I did not give five stars. The primary flaw is that the contour of the inner bowl does not match the contour of the ash sweeper vanes, which allows uncontrolled air into the system, making tight control at minimum smoking temps extremely difficult. Weber sent me new ash sweepers, for which I am grateful, but they were identical to the ones installed at the factory. Since I had spares, I used a bench grinder to re-profile a set for proper fitment, and now the grill works superbly. Since I had spares, I used a bench grinder to re-profile a set for proper fitment, and now the grill works superbly. I can hold 225F with almost no effort, with nearly any fuel, and I've managed 22 consecutive hours at that temperature. That alone makes the price of entry bearable, because my old rig needed to be refueled every 4-6 hours. With a second lower grate, I am able to beautifully reverse-sear steaks without any fancy attachments. The grill will also get to temperatures over 500F and even 600F (even at over 6,600 ft altitude), making pizza baking a breeze with nothing more than a pizza stone and a Weber 5" stand. The side port allows simple, no-drill attachment of a pit control fan, which is only necessary for overnight/unattended cooks. The large table is very nice and sturdy. The built-in starter is so convenient (I didn't think I would use it, but I now only use my chimneys to light large quantities of charcoal). The size is also a great advantage. I no longer have to give any consideration to whether a large piece of meat will fit under the lid. Overall, it is a terrific machine that beautifully combines low-temp efficiency and stability for smoking, and high-heat performance for baking and grilling.

Versatile, yet some shortcomings
22 July 2019

I've had my Grilling Center for several months now and have gone through some set-up pains. First, I hate those 1 pound gas bottles because you always have to have at least one extra on hand. I bought a 5 pound gas cylinder and connecting hose to correct that. Sales literature claimed that the unit is ready to grill in just ten minutes, which is untrue. Other owners and I all feel that it takes a good 20 minutes before grilling can start. Even though this is a high-end grill, there are features that either should have been included or should have been offered as options. The stainless wire storage basket beneath the work surface should have been much deeper - that wastes needed storage space. The stainless wire storage basket beneath the work surface should have been much deeper - that wastes needed storage space. The stainless work surface itself should have been designed with a stainless bin beneath it so that food to be grilled can be stored on ice (and away from insects) during the set-up process. I suggest that an extra plastic storage bin be offered for wood chunks that are used for smoking. And some sort of simple, hooked tool be provided for manipulating the grill grates to make adding more charcoal or wood chunks easier. I also think that Weber should provide references to third-party cookbooks that are more focused on individual cooking themes. I enjoy cooking meats on a rotisserie and I'm going to have to jury-rig something to be able to do that.In general, I'm satisfied with the Grilling Center and enjoy using it.

Weber Original Kettle E-5710 Charcoal BBQ in Black - 57cm

Purchased to replace my very old 'original' 57CM Weber BBQ, which has stood outside for about 35 years, but now finally corroded through where the legs attach to the kettle body - sad, I loved using that BBQ!However, this shiny new Original Kettle does have a few improvements, including heatproof plastic handles (old ones were wooden) bigger wheels, better fixing arrangement for the legs, deeper ash pan with better support clips, and a nice little thermometer in the lid.Whilst the Weber is a fine BBQ and I wouldn't have anything else, the legs are still a little 'wobbly' (could be thicker?) and the temperature gauge could have a marking / zone for the correct operating temperature? BTW, it's now made in France and comes with an absolute wad of information in all ... MorePurchased to replace my very old 'original' 57CM Weber BBQ, which has stood outside for about 35 years, but now finally corroded through where the legs attach to the kettle body - sad, I loved using that BBQ!However, this shiny new Original Kettle does have a few improvements, including heatproof plastic handles (old ones were wooden) bigger wheels, better fixing arrangement for the legs, deeper ash pan with better support clips, and a nice little thermometer in the lid.Whilst the Weber is a fine BBQ and I wouldn't have anything else, the legs are still a little 'wobbly' (could be thicker?) and the temperature gauge could have a marking / zone for the correct operating temperature? Worth Every Penny

I bought the Summit Charcoal Grill stand-alone unit. It holds temp +/- 10 degrees for hours on end without adjustment. Way more stable than any of my Smokey Mountains, Kettles, barrel cooker or offset. For example, when I cooked a 15lb full packer brisket it held 235 degrees steady for 7 hours with Weber Charcoal (superb) and my Slow-n-Sear Low Profile, without a controller. Only initial vent adjustments were needed to dial it in. Practically speaking it's nice to be able to dial in the temp, go cut the grass and when you return it hasn't spiked up 60 degrees while you had your back turned like some. When I was done with the Brisket cook I torched it up to 400 to cook some corn-on-the-cob. Very versatile cooker, totally happy with it. The lid thermometer actually reads the same temp as the food grate area when compared to my digital thermo probes, which was a total surprise. Most factory lid thermo's (including my standard kettles) read at least 50 degrees hotter than the actual food grate temp/useless novelty. It may appear pricey but when you really compare it to other Komados in its class, it's a good value since you can still use all of the GBS accessories in it, has gas assist, stainless steel food grate (worth its weight in gold for cleanup) and Weber's warranty blows away most everyone. The tripod frame is very sturdy and easy to move around. Plus it's made of steel and won't succumb to heat-crazing and spider-cracking like all Komados do. :)
