I upgraded from the older classic round Weber kettle. This is a nice small gas BBQ (a little 'hot-rod'), and the briquettes are gone. It is fast and easy to get the job done. It heats very quickly, and the thermometer is a nice confidence feature. It seems to be miserly on fuelbecause fuel is not wasted heating unused grill space.I find that since the cook surface is rectangular, it feels more efficient for food arrangement than the round kettle. Calculation indicates differently, but with the slightest bit of crowding, I don't seem to have a problem putting on an equivalent amount. I struggled between this model and the 2200, but decided that for 2-3 or maybe 4 people, this would probably do the job (nose-count is usually two, plus doing extra for left-overs). ... MoreI upgraded from the older classic round Weber kettle. I struggled between this model and the 2200, but decided that for 2-3 or maybe 4 people, this would probably do the job (nose-count is usually two, plus doing extra for left-overs). If I plan to have a larger group, I will simply fire up the old Weber too.The two grate halves are heavy cast, and have a smooth glossy coating. This makes them easy to clean, and the gaps are close enough (about 5/16") that small pieces of your food do not slip through as readily as the 1/2" gaps on the older wire-grate models. The inner body tapers to a 2" hole in the bottom, dropping down to a removable tray and disposable aluminum liners to catch cooking oils, etc. I now use the Weber anti-stick (soy-based) spray prior to grilling, and nothing seems to get charred on. Maybe the thermometer helps me control the heat better. For cleanup, since it is small, I wipe everything out with paper towels, remove the thermometer, and spray the inside, grates, and tray with Simple Green or equal heavy-duty grease cleaner. After spraying give everything a light brushing with a soft-bristle brush, and I have an area where I can wash everything off with a garden hose. This process is quick and not nearly as messy as it may sound. The water-based ('grease') cleaner neutralizes and flushes off cleanly and easily, and teverything is like new again. The folding composite-material side trays are well designed, and space savers for storage. I also like the BBQ's light weight and size, because I have an enclosed storage area under a 2.5' x 4' BBQ station I built, where I have room to cover and store this BBQ (side trays folded), gas bottle(s), brush, cleaner, tools, etc. Everything is out-of-sight and in one place, ready to go again. This unit has worked out very well for my needs.

Disappointing heat control

I also bought the hose that lets me connect the unit to a 25lb tank as I have found that it gets very expensive to use 1lb bottles. However, I found that it gets way to hot on even the lowest setting wrecking very good EXPENSIVE meat. To check to make sure I was right I bought two 1lb bottles which worked great. I have checked many stores to try to find an adjustable regulator to knock the pressure down but unable to find one with the correct threads. I also checked the Weber site and could not find one. This meets all those needs and I highly recommend it. The first is that it does not turn the flame down to a low enough setting (it generally won't go below 300 degrees on the built in thermometer) reducing the ability to simmer for long times or smoke meats on the go (with a pellet tube). For this reason I give the grill 4 stars and not 5.The second, temporary but more serious, problem (well-handled by Weber) was a failure of the regulator entirely. I have a hose to run the grill off the main propane tank and eliminate green cans (cheaper, more reliable, and more ecologically friendly). This worked extremely well all summer over 18 nights, but on a fall camp out it would not light. After unsuccessfully trying the "regulator reset" instructions found numerous places online I was certain the regulator was faulty and needed replacement.Weber customer service is definite plus and I was helped at the call center by a terrific agent who made me confident I was going to get the correct part which Weber shipped without cost and I got within two days. Clear and easy replacement instructions and about 15 minutes and we are off and ready to go again. In short this is a terrific and convenient powerhouse of a portable grill and if the regulator tuned it down to a lower level it would be perfect.

This is a nice grill design for items that you will watch closely. It is an attractive unit. Its single burner design doesn't allow for a cooler place on the grill to get indirect heating. Setting the heat only sets the rate of heating, not the temperature. This makes it imperative that you periodically raise the lid to regulate the temperature for items that are thicker. Flare ups are common as the lid is vented on both sides and the grease hole in the bottom is large. This is an open single burner and heats up very quickly. So, it takes some time to get used to this grill. It produces a lot of heat and the squirrels can't get into it with the lid closed. For our purposes it is acceptable but it would not replace a larger multi-burner unit temperature controlled unit for general outside grilling use.

When my husband went on the carnivore diet it became "too much" to clean up the stove of meat grease every meal and he suggested getting a grill. I was intimidated by the thought of grilling every day (I'd never grilled before in my life at 52, LOL!), but the thought of a continuously clean kitchen encouraged me...and I'm SO HAPPY WE GOT IT!!!It's SUPER EASY to use, the perfect size for 6 1/3 lb burgers (although I usually cook 3 at a time). I LOVE the built in grill thermometer. It helps a lot since just timing it doesn't account for ambient temperature and that does affect pre-heat and grilling times; it's winter in New England so whether it's 25 or 40 degrees outside makes a difference.I recommend a stainless steel "fish turner" type of flipper; it's perfect ... MoreWhen my husband went on the carnivore diet it became "too much" to clean up the stove of meat grease every meal and he suggested getting a grill. Of course, having the grill hot enough and leaving it long enough before turning is essential, but the beveled edge of the fish spatula along with its thinness makes it almost a given that you're going to get all the yummy browned part on your plate. Not that that's a review of the grill, just a tip.

I bought this smaller grille a month ago on the recommendation of two brothers, both accomplished grillers, who’ve used theirs for a year or so. They swear by theirs, and I’m appreciating mine, the more I use it ( about 2-3 X a week). This grille replaces a full- size BBQ, and I use a small charcoal grille as well. It’s well- made, effectively designed and easy to keep clean ( grilles fit easily into kitchen sink). The grille area seems just right for the two of us, but likely to present challenges when cooking for four or more. I’ve only used one green bottle so far and, as I refill these myself, the grille is proving economical. The side trays provide just enough room for the stuff I need with me when cooking. (I do worry about forgetting to flip them out before lighting the grille, given the easy starting!) Heat regulation could be a bit of a challenge. I tried the grille with a 20 lb tank when I first got it, but it didn’t work as well as with a 1 pounder ( different pressures, maybe?); but I’ll re-visit that. Overall, so far so good- 4 leaning towards 5.

Two q1200 grills fail in same way in a month

I am returning a weber q1200 - again. I bought one last fall and it was working great until a few weeks ago. It got used several times a week on our patio. The gas was not getting to the burner to light. I am religious about keeping it clean, making sure the burner holes are clear. One day it just would not light - no gas to the burner. The 5 gallon propane was full. That tank worked on my Nepoleon grill. I bought a new hose, still no gas to the burner. So I bought another Q1200 grill. This one worked for 2 weeks, then again - no gas getting to the burner. Verified it was not the tank or hose. I bought a gas sniffer detector just to verify if any gas was getting through. Still no gas got to the burner. Also online saw that these grills having the regulator built in the grill fail alot of times. The only was the grill would work was when I attach the small propane cylinder to the grill. Not acceptable to only work with a small cylinder and not the refillable (or tank exchange) method. So I am getting another Nepoleon travelpro 285 grill. I cannot trust that the weber q1200 will always work anymore with 5 gallon propane tanks.

Contrary to the other many positive reviews (which I was so pleased to read and which influenced my purchase), I have had a different experience with this bbq. Used it successfully TWICE - wouldn't warm up on third use. Contacted Weber and problem was diagnosed as a broken/malfunctioning valve/regulator. Weber mailed me a replacement part with installation instructions. I'm on my own with this, which I told the rep. She said 'easy peasy' job! Don't worry! Well, for one thing, I don't have one of the key tools (Nut-Driver) required - and remember, in order to INSTALL the new regulator I have to REMOVE the old one. Which requires removing umpteen other parts, like the burner tube, one handle and table and then the valve/regulator and the hose bracket/gas cartridge ... MoreContrary to the other many positive reviews (which I was so pleased to read and which influenced my purchase), I have had a different experience with this bbq. Then everything in reverse for the installation (extra care with the burner tube re-installation in order to get the proper ignition spark). Waiting for my daughter to come over with the required Nut-Driver so we can work on this together. In the meantime, I haven't used the bbq for almost a month, while I waited for the part and now while I wait for a tool and some help. NOT impressed!!

Watch out for the regulator!!!

I love these little bbq's! This is my 3rd one. My first one was the white lid one but when I moved in 2020 getting a moving truck was difficult so had to make choices on what I moved, unforntionaly the BBQ didn't make the move. When I got settled I ordered the red one, but last winter it got attacked by mice. I had to throw it away. This time I ordered the green one since the green matched some of my outdoor furniture. So here is the "but" It was delivered March 7 but because of the snow I didn't put it together. Finally end of April I put it together. The problem was the flame was not adjustable and I couldn't get any heat out of it to cook. It was well past Amazon return window so I called Weber and the very first person I talked with was very nice person and he ... MoreI love these little bbq's! This is my 3rd one. The problem was the flame was not adjustable and I couldn't get any heat out of it to cook. It was well past Amazon return window so I called Weber and the very first person I talked with was very nice person and he walked me through some steps and then told me he would send a free regulator and it would take up to two weeks to receive it. I received a fuel hose in stead of the regulator.I called Weber back and the person that I talked with again was very nice person and he said he would send me the regulator but again that would take up to 2 weeks. I received the regulator but you need a special tool to get the regulator off, finally got one at home depot. So between the fixed ratchet and the very short screw driver I still cannot get the regulator off!! I asked a handyman for help and he was going to charge me $100.I am a widowed 71yo women on a fixed income and cannot afford to buy a new bbq this year. I am in tears this will be the first time in over 35 years that I won't have a bbq.

You need this!!

As someone who never cooks, I was worried I'd spend all this money on the Q1200 and cart and use it once. (My previous grill was a monster that I used 3 times in 20 years.) But I love it and am using it several times a week. In fact, I just made a Portobello mushroom cap "burger" on a toasted bun for lunch! The Q1200's just a super, compact and convenient grill that takes up little space on my deck. It feels lighter than I expected -- most of the weight is in the grates. The flip-out shelves are an awesome convenience. The grill temperature easily climbs to it's maximum -- you have to keep an eye on it. The grilling surface is large enough to easily handle a large cut up chicken, and cooks quickly. (I've had an easier time cooking chicken to juicy perfection on this Q1200 than I do when using an oven, especially the large split breasts.) Depending on what you're cooking, you could easily feed 6-8 people with this grill -- probably even more.Even though the cooking surface is smaller than a regular size grill, it's comprised of two separate grates, which makes them easy to handle and transport as they're heavy. (I often just use one side which minimizes the number of grates I have to clean.) Of course, the split surface also provides the option to switch out one side for a griddle plate. (I bought the plate, but have yet to try it.) It's also notable that the grill grates are broad with less space in between, which means you can throw some fairly small things on there without food falling through.I initially used the small 1lb propane bottles as I wasn't sure how much I'd grill (I otherwise NEVER cook); but I've been using the Q1200 so much that I transitioned to a regular propane tank. It was very easy to set it up with the adapter hose and the propane tank. Fortunately, I was aware that using a tank can trigger a safety mechanism that prevents the grill from fully heating. There are helpful instructions on the Weber website on how to prevent that so I've had no issues. The Q1200's been pretty easy to clean, but I'm diligent about cleaning after every use. Burning everything off with high heat, and then using a grill brush is a FALLACY though. The Weber Grill Grate cleaner helps quite a bit with degreasing and the removal of charred buts. I also spray on liquid detergent and let the grates sit in the sink a few minutes. Again, it's wonderful having compact grates when it comes to cleaning.I highly recommend getting the rolling cart designed for the Q series. It's lightweight but sufficiently stable, and puts the grill at the perfect height. (However, I have not tried transporting the grill and cart anywhere to test their mobility.)Seriously, I can't recommend this enough
