This disk drive has a fundamental design defect, in that it houses some of it's GPT partition information on the host operating system drive- no big deal unless you happen to change that information while under a different system disk, and then go back to the old one. In that event it ends up in a configuration where it's half of one, and half of the other. This destroys the data on the drive. I have never seen a disk drive that you cannot freely move between computers, not in 32 years of fixing computers and servers professionally- and yet this drive is exactly that. It has nothing to do with bitlocker or anything else, it's not a security issue- the part of the drive that becomes corrupted is the actual partition information itself. Largest SATA SSD available and also the cheapest 4TB. Perfect for a non-bootable-OS drive of data. First one I bought dropped out (disappeared even in BIOS until cold reboot) several times overnight and had to be returned. B&H return and replacement was smooth and easy. Replacement drive has worked great.

Great Upgrade over Previous HDD
18 January 2022

I needed to upgrade an old MacBook Pro (2010) to help give it an extended life by replacing the slow HDD with an SDD drive. It was a very easy swap that helped the MBP greatly improve it's performance. Boot-up time went from 2+ minutes to 31 seconds.Write/Read went from 68 MB/s — 90MB/s TO 264 MB/s — 517 MB/s

Gives cortical info about the drives, easy on the fly trim function, and formats updates if needed.Every system should be running SSDs now at least on the boot drive. They are a game changer!

Great purchase, almost returned but was my own error.
5 November 2021

When you add a new hard drive to your pc AFTER the first bootup, you will need to go to your hard drive manager in windows in order to get the PC to recognize the drive. Otherwise, you will plug it in and it will not appear as usable storage. I thought it was defective until I did research to find this out. Almost returned it, glad I didn't.

Love the product, hate the company...not Western Digital, but NEWEGG!!!
29 September 2020

On September 11, 2020. I had purchased 2 M.2 SSDs and the Western Digital 4TB SSD, both were in separate orders made on the same date. I sent the 2 M.2 SSDs back as I had purchased the wrong ones. I was refunded both sticks but only one of the extended warranties and when I brought it to the attention of Newegg, they had supposedly corrected it....but instead of cancelling both warranties for the M.2 Sticks, they cancelled one of the sticks and the extended warranty I had purchased for the Western Digital 4TB SSD. The warranty on the stick I sent back was refunded today, but I was told I had to repurchase it for the Western Digital SSD. Problem is...I can't. I was told by not ONE but TWO Newegg Reps that I could repurchased it, only to be told I can't...so sorry, so sad, too bad. This is a problem with having employees sharing only one brain cell....if it's stretched beyond it's capacity, it's going to fry and even of one one employee was using the cell at the time, there's still a 95.99% chance the the cell will fry. A simple thing that I had explained in great detail was so messed up, that you could literally say that things went from FUUBAR to SNAFU at the same time. Total incompetence.

One of the most frustrating experiences, ever.
4 January 2022

I installed this SSD the day after it was delivered on a Dell xps8920 desktop as the boot drive, and used the Acronis cloning software WD offers on their website. The cloning went well, and the computer booted up incredibly fast, something I wasn't used to, but the computer only sees it as a 1tb drive. Trying to get WD support on the phone is exhaustive as it is frustrating. I never was able to get a support person on the phone, but had to listen to a constant repeating message that is as much of a torture to qualify as evil. Then WD sends me an e-mail asking, "How did we do?" Really, they did that, so I told them, truthfully. Well today they sent another e-mail to attempt to make it better, I suppose, so the adventure continues tomorrow, another four hours of that ... MoreI installed this SSD the day after it was delivered on a Dell xps8920 desktop as the boot drive, and used the Acronis cloning software WD offers on their website. Ridiculously slow RMA handling
7 October 2021

I had a failure of a 500 gig laptop SSD drive. IIt failed to be seen in a boot to the BIOS. I asked fotr and got an RMA on Sept 3, 2021. I was notified WD received the drive on Sept 15. It is now Oct 6, and no word from WD on status. RMA 0065027268 product was received by WD on 9-15-21 but nothing has been done yet. Why is it taking so long. Your web page says 4 to 6 days is typical for RMA turn around

WD SSD is a high performer
15 June 2021

Chose this as the drive for OS and programs in my new build. I then separated data onto a Gold Enterprise Class drive. The Blue SSD was easy to set up initially--no glitches. It performs well and I am confident it will last years beyond its warranty. For 25 years I have used only WD drives, mostly the Black Edition. WD drives have never failed. As long as I need drives, WD is my choice.
