Wild Turkey 101 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 1L

(63 reviews)

Wild Turkey Kentucky 101 Bourbon Whiskey is an iconic bourbon with a high rye content and deep character. On the nose there is a strong blend of caramel toffee with a robust amount of alcohol. The Spice and vanilla provide a baseline with extra layers of toasted oak and butterscotch. Sweet notes of maple and cinnamon are nicely juxtaposed with oak and spice.

This Bourbon Whisky gives all it?s got in the first sip. It is honestly robust with a sting that softens slightly. It is a true American drink that can be used as a neat whisky or with ice. Quite often, it is used as part of a Whisky Sour. In fact, the first whiff of it brought me back to my very first Whisky Sour all those years ago. A definite drink for the grown-ups and as American as the 4th of July. Why not have a bottle to celebrate the American Independence Day ? Couldn?t be more appropriate.

It?s actually very good.

I usually drink Scotch, sometimes Irish. Neat or 50/50 with water, never with ice. The first thing that hit me with this is the high alcohol content: 50% ABV instead of 40%. I struggled with that at first, until I tried it with ice. Then it came alive: with a rounded smooth sweetish flavour and plenty of character. I rarely drink alone (pandemics excepted) so I think I might start keeping a bottle of this in to introduce to friends when I fancy something a bit different, or showing off some macho 60?s cocktails.

Might have a bad batch

As i started getting into drinking whiskey ive always heard people give wild turkey a great renound review saying its one of the best whiskeys for its price so i just had to get a bottle for myself. When i first opened the sealed bottle i was welcomed with a very sweet floral scent come from the bottle but that immeadiatly disipated and started giving off a serious sour smell. ive searched other reviews on different websites even including whisky shelf for their review on the bottle and it was given a great review from my understanding, However my bottle for lack of better words seriously smelt like i opened a jar of Dill Pickles specifically, and was put off by its smell. Wanting to give it a chance before judging it i poured myself a glass and sure enough i was ... MoreAs i started getting into drinking whiskey ive always heard people give wild turkey a great renound review saying its one of the best whiskeys for its price so i just had to get a bottle for myself. This was a very poor first experience with wild turkey that now i have a whole bottle that might very well go to the trash or give to my neighbors.

Never tried Bourbon before

Bought this to try some time ago. It has good flavour, bit hot on the throat with first sip. I am a fan of Dimples Scotch Whiskey. This is just as good, but totally different flavour. Another favourite has now been added to my list.

Not a bad drop
15 April 2023

My wife won a bottle in a raffle. I’ve been drinking it on ice. Pretty satisfying considering that this is your basic WT bourbon. I’ll step up and try the 101 next, as I’ve heard it’s a much better bourbon at a slightly higher price. Good value though.

One Of The Better American Bourbons.
14 December 2022

Up to now I've had no fewer than 42 different American bourbon/rye whiskies and can honestly say Wild Turkey 101 is right up there. Not quite K--b Creek or Woodford Reserve, but certainly a great bourbon. I like it with just a splash of cold tap water, and I like it even more when it's on special offer as it was last week (£21 per bottle).

Really nice!!!
24 October 2022

I realised it was a higher alc % but wow the first sip did hit back of my throat. But after that the taste was lovely and smooth. Get ready for a nice hard hitting but smooth slightly sweet vanilla taste that’s great for relaxing with!!!

Very smooth, great value

I was sent this whiskey in exchange for an honest review. I was skeptical at first because of the price. I actually really like whiskey but don't drink it often at all - i am very particular and was pleasantly surprised that this whiskey has many qualities of much pricier rivals. Smooth, rich and with a very subtle hint of smoky sweetness. My husband and his friend love their whiskey and they too raved about it!

Watered down version in Australia

You wouldn't think watering down a drink from 43.4% to 40.5% would make such a difference to the taste and character of a drink. But it does! I thought I'd bought an off bottle.

I haven't opened the bottle I ordered yet. Wild Turkey 101 is a great bouron and is fantastic to make whiskey sours with, which I will be doing over the holidays! Not the first time I ordered from Molloys and likely not the last. Orders always arrive quickly, well packaged and in perfect condition.
