A beautiful earth violet!

A lovey and dark, almost violet earth brown color! The pigment is rich and opaque but not chunky or too thick. It has mild granulation but nothing chunky like you'd find with
Daniel Smith. This makes the paint a nice mixer and easy to handle, I love it! Mix it with ultramarine blue for a lovely purple gray that wonderful for shadows! #sweepstakes

I've tried another venetian red and this one is soooo much nicer! The paint is creamy and smooth, not chunky or overly granulating. This version is also richly pigmented
making it quite opaque, but it thins out smoothly, not streaky at all. The diluted color is a soft reddish- flesh color that's similar to quin burnt scarlet. I find that it mixes very
well too, making beautiful grays with blue, specifically prussian blue. #sweepstakes

Very elegant design! It's perfect for my use case, which was trying to test out the textures and properties of different pigments and formulations. It's a very small amount of
paint, at least compared to what you'll get from dot cards from some other brands, but it was enough for what I needed to do, and the sheer beauty and quality of the card
and the paints more than made up for the quantity. I'll definitely keep this around as a reference - it's super well-organized! I only wish they also made one for their gouache!

Granulating Yellow- here it is...
8 March 2024
Nice granulating color. I purchased this to bump out my granulation collection and fill out my Schmincke volcano set (I only had three--no yellow). From what I can tell, this color is more vibrant than the one that came with the Schmincke set. There are few granulating yellows sold commercially, but I'm told if you grind your own paints, many pigments can be "granulating." So this is a nice convenience tube but I wish it was cheaper.... Great purchase if you shop online
5 July 2024
This was one of those impulse purchases that happened because I was buying some other watercolor supplies on Blick, saw it, and thought, "That could be useful." I'm doing a lot of online shopping for supplies these days, and it's really nice to be able to see what I can actually be getting instead of just having to stick to the colors I already know or having to take a risk based on the color I see on my phone--only to discover that I really don't like how blue or pink or whatever a particular option is after I've already bought it and waited for it to be delivered. Do I really *need* more paints? Probably not, but do I love trying new things even if I don't absolutely need them? Yes, yes I do, and this makes it as much fun as browsing at the store.... Show more

Love this product
11 May 2023
I'm primarily an urban sketcher. drawing and painting on location with pen and watercolor. I purchased this WN field set as an upgrade to my kit. It's so well thought out...color choices are a great start, just maybe need to add pink or fuscia if doing florals. Water containers fit the bill. Plenty of mixing pans. Thumb holder keeps it all in balance. Included brush is small, maybe only useful for small details, so will supplement with larger brush. Nevertheless, it's so compact and easy to use, plus the professional grade colors carry a high pigment load. I'm really having fun with it! If $ is a concern, I would not hesitate to try the Cotman version of this field kit.... Show more

My New SuperPower!
9 August 2024
I've aptly named this review 'My New Superpower!' as the Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour Paints (14ml) have elevated my artwork to a new height. The pigment's depth, along with the paint's texture and consistency, and its transparency, are collectively unparalleled compared to any other products I've used before. Up until now, my exploration has been limited to swatches and practice sheets, but I am eager to embrace the full challenge.... Show more

The Travel Tin, Set of 12 is perfect for beginners
28 December 2023
I'm so happy with these W&N watercolors that I don't think I'd even consider trying another brand at this point. The quality is fantastic, the color selection is unbeatable, and the price is very fair considering these points. I got started with the pans in the Customizable Travel Tin, Set of 12, and I think that was the perfect starting point. I've since switched to the tubes (I said this is "a solid value" and not "a fantastic deal" because I think the tubes are a better value) and have amassed quite the collection (I have 31, and just placed an order for 2 more). I'm in love!... Show more

Tiny dots.
14 February 2024
I regularly use Winsor & Newton professional watercolor paints and love them! I wanted to add some colors to my palette, so I purchased the dot card to help me decide which to purchase. I was surprised and disappointed to see how tiny the paint dots were. The dots were so teeny, there was hardly enough paint to do a little color mixing or play around with after I swatched, making my purchasing decisions more difficult. I also purchased the Daniel Smith dot card which provided a lot more paint and that was very helpful because it allowed me to work with the paint and give me clarity on which colors would be the best additions to my palette.... Wonderful Paint!
29 October 2023
I mostly work with water soluble oil paint, but lately for morning warm up, before launching into my larger paintings I've been making small paintings with watercolor. I have a Winsor Newton travelers paint box, and over the past few months the half pans have slowly been used up. So have been ordering new ones. I will say, though, the Winsor Newton pigments are so powerful, it takes a lot of water and brush work to diminish the half pans. Which is good! Excellent quality. #sweepstakes... Show more
