Best for baking. Canned products are never going to be the same as fresh, so you need to have that in mind when tasting to minimise disappointment. I liked that the can was full to the top and easy to open (great ring pull!) plus the cherries are stoneless (& every one was). I heated the cherries & reduced the syrup to use as a pancake topping which was quite nice with the right level of sweetness for me. In fact the cherries were a little hard to "mush" down, hence why I'd recommend using them for baking - pies, muffins, cakes (Black Forest especially!). Unfortunately some of the cherries were "squeaky" with tough skins when eaten - maybe too much calcium carbonate as a processing aid?I'm usually totally pro-Australian product but every now and then understand that ...Ā MoreBest for baking. In this case the cherries are Italian. Given the state of the Australian food industry, supply of raw ingredients & lack of canning factories - this is such a case. Not too Sweet. Was surprised when I opened the can as the cherries were nice plump ones, tasted one and even though they are in syrup they aren't overly sweet and didn't leave an after taste in your mouth. They are a product of Italy. Can & lid are recyclable, with a ring pull top. They have a 3. 5 HSR which is okay, No artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. Had to really look to find them on the shelf as there weren't many tins left. At $3. 80 for a 415g tin price wise is passable. As we were having company decided to make small cherry pies with these and serve them with home made dairy free custard, they were well received and all enjoyed dessert. Quality plump black cherries. This is the amount of cherries after I drained the syrup. Beautiful big plump stoneless cherries and quite a lot of them. I tried a bit of the cherry and it tasted more like a sour cherry which was surprising sitting in all that syrup. Slightly cheaper than the frozen ones. You can eat them straight from the can, or with yoghurt/ice cream. They will also come in handy for making cakes, decorating cakes, desserts and all manner of baked sweet goods. I'm not a fan of canned fruits especially the ones in syrup so decided to use them to make cherry frosting for a vegan cake. Bonus that the cherries have their pits already removed Admittedly it took some time to make a reduction from the pureed cherries but the results were definitely ...Ā MoreQuality plump black cherries. I ended up with possibly 1/2 cup of cherry reduction which I used to make a cherry buttercream and it was enough to ice the top of a 20 cm cake. The buttercream had a natural colour with textural interest from the skin. It also tasted really really good with a tangy flavour balancing out the overall sweetness. I also used some of the cherry syrup in my cake mixture and icing. Overall I'm pleased with the product and will consider buying for use in making special treats. Note that the cherries are not locally grown but from Italy.

Pantry item for making cherry pie. I found the item easily in the tinned fruit aisle. Labeling on tin was very clear to see against other like products. I don't usually buy tinned fruit with syrup as I enjoy the fruit in its real juice (regular buyer). I was interested to get this sample, and decided it would be best to use in a cherry pie. Good choice as the content was perfect for this. Having the syrup, I cut back on the sugar in the recipe, and it was perfect. It is easy to use the syrup (heated up separately in a saucepan) to include on top of the pie when serving with ice cream. I was surprised that I liked this product as much as I did, and for the cool months using it in a pie was a better option than having them straight from the tin with ice cream - but ...Ā MorePantry item for making cherry pie. Black Forest Cheescake. Mr Gorky was excited when he saw the bunch sample email first. That is because he knows that this can means he gets a black forest cheesecake. This can is the only one we ever use because there is no other options for tinned black cherries and at the end of the year when it is stonefruit season we never think to store fresh ones in the freezer. This product comes from Italy and I would say that Australia wouldnt use tinned cherries as much as European countries would so probably no great demand to can them over here despite growing the most delicious cherries in Tasmania. $3. 80 and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Only ingredients are cherries, water and sugar. So I bet you want the recipe now. Its a very simple no bake one. ...Ā MoreBlack Forest Cheescake. Only ingredients are cherries, water and sugar. So I bet you want the recipe now. Its a very simple no bake one. I used lactose free cream and cream cheese. This time I added a handful of gingernut biscuits to the base and used Captain Morgan Gingerbread Rum. I drained the cherries straight into a tiny saucepan ready to make the topping then put the cherries in a small bowl and covered it with a bit more rum than the recipe says to soak while I made up the rest of the cake. Before it was time to put the filling on the base, I drained the rum into the saucepan for the topping. At some point I will try this out with Agar Agar which is a vegetarian version of gelatine. Black Forest Cheesecake Base – 250g plain chocolate biscuits (like Chocolate ripple) 125g unsalted butter Filling- ½ cup water 1 tablespoon gelatine 250g cream cheese ¾ cup sugar 300ml thickened cream 1 tablespoon lemon juice 425g can of black pitted cherries. Drain the can of cherries in a sieve over a small saucepan so that the juice is retained for the topping. Topping- 1 tablespoon cornflour 1 tablespoon sugar (depending on the juice from the can sometimes not needed as already sweet enough) 1 tablespoon rum (optional) (if there are excess cherries soak them in the rum and add to the topping) BASE - In a food processor crush the biscuits. Add melted butter and process until well mixed. Put all mixture in the bottom of a spring form tin. Lightly press mixture into the tin so it is even. Refrigerate. FILLING- Sprinkle gelatine over the water and stir. To melt the gelatine, place the cup containing the gelatine mix in a bowl of hot water and stir until the grains are dissolved. Make sure no extra water gets into the cup mixture. Set aside to cool. In a food processor beat cream cheese, sugar and lemon juice until smooth. Add the cooled gelatine mixture and beat well. Add the cream and beat well till mixture looks slightly thickened. Put a thin layer of cheese mixture on the biscuit base. Arrange the drained cherries over the biscuit base then pour the remaining filling over the top of the cherries. Refrigerate until firm. TOPPING - Add cornflour and sugar to reserved cherry juice and stir till smooth. Stir until boiling and mixture changes from cloudy to clear, remove from heat. Add rum and excess cherries. Stir for a few moments to cool down mixture. Pour over cheesecake and refrigerate again until ready to serve. NOTE: Cheesecake is best made 24 hours before. Take out of the fridge an hour before serving. Make sure cherries are seedless. This base is for just the bottom. If you want sides you need to double the biscuits and butter. Change up the biscuits and do one of chocolate biscuits and one of ginger nuts, butternut crunch or other flavour. Would also be more black forest if using Kirsch liquor instead of rum.

Plump tinned cherries in syrup. I wasn't sure how to use this sample initially but decided to use the cake hack making it's way around tik tok at the moment. The can was super easy to open with a ring pull. It cost $3. 80 which isn't the cheapest tinned fruit out there but I guess reasonable considering it's cherries which are always an expensive fruit. The cherries were nice and plump and all were whole which was good. They were in a sweet syrup. I tipped the whole can including the syrup into a butter cake mix with 2 eggs, and cooked for 25 mins at 180 degrees. The cake was nice and light, with the pop of juicy cherry throughout. It turned purple from the syrup but was really delish. We served the slices of cake warm with dollop cream. What a treat! I would ...Ā MorePlump tinned cherries in syrup. Tinned Black Cherries. Collected this bunch item while shopping last week. I had been planning to have them chilled with ice cream, as I like chilled tinned fruit and ice cream, not really the weather for that. I made them into a self saucing , white chocolate GF sponge pudding for dessert last night, made the batter, GF flour, butter, sugar, egg and a little water, beaten with the electric hand mixer. I drained the juice to use as part of the sauce, put the into the bottom of the pan, spread the batter over the top of the cherries, had some white chocolate in the fridge that was left over from making some chocolate treats, chopped that up put on top of the batter. I mixed some sugar and about 2 tablespoons of tapioca starch together sprinkled that over the pudding, poured over the boiled cherry juice, popped into the oven at 190° for 40 minutes. Took out of the oven and served while hot. Added some fresh cream to my bowl, the pudding had a nice texture and sauce was a good consistency, the cherries were soft, I liked the pudding with the my husband loved the pudding and the sauce, he wasn't so keen on the he thought that they lacked flavour. Bunch thanks for this sample of Black in juice. Not likely to buy this product. There was a good ratio of fruit in the can and they were good sized.

Great pantry staple. This product was very easy to find in Woolies, naturally, with the canned fruit. I was keen to try these cherries as I usually steer clear of processed fruits in favour of fresh. However, what disappointed me was the fact that the cherries were grown in Italy! Why oh why aren’t we eating Australian cherries? That is not good enough Woolies! Also, the tin contains only 56% cherries. Why not 100%? Perhaps that is why the product was relatively cheap at $3. 80. There were not sufficient cherries in the tin. Would I buy the cherries again? Perhaps, if I wanted to make a dessert with them. But I would probably look for Australian cherries to keep our farmers on the land.

They tasted extremely sweet on their own but in a cake are fine, once you omit any other sugar ingredient in your initial recipe. The texture profile is intact and my can gave 09/07/2024 storage.
