Rice Is not so Nice. It was Mexican night at our house, I made enchiladas so perfect chance to try this Woolies MEXICAN STYLE RICE. Found with all the other rices, this 250gm packet worth $2. 00 was easily spotted with it's appealing green packaging. Easily opened and heated for 90 secs in the microwave, out came hot steaming rice with a very slight mexican red colour appearance BUT that's where it ends. Unfortunately not much but rice could be found with a little scattering of beans and capsicums. The rice was quite dry and it definitely didn't have a kick to it as there was suppose to have chopped jalapenos. There was no aroma to it either just smelt like bland rice. Its made in Thailand. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. 3. 5 * rating. I wouldn't ... MoreRice Is not so Nice. Nice and spicy. Living on my own I like to keep a pack or two of rice like these packets in the cupboard for when I don't need to cook a whole lot. I like spicy food and really enjoyed the hit of spice that this rice had. I thought it was moist enough for my liking and didn't think it was dry. It has a long shelf life as well which is handy if I needed to keep it a bit longer. My packet has a Best Before date of 16/02/2022 so I'd have plenty of time to use it up if I didn't need to open it now for this review. The packet says it serves 2 which is fine if you are using this as a side, otherwise if you just wanted a quick rice snack I think the whole packet would be filling enough for one. The only negative for me was that the product is made in Thailand. While reading the pouch packet I did notice something I've not seen before. The recycling symbol says "Pouch. Return to Store". There is a link with more info here: https://www. woolworths. com. au/shop/discover/sustainability/recycling I never knew we could do this so I'll be looking out for it a bit more and give the pouch a wash and remember to take it to Woolies and put it in the "REDcycle" bin So today for my lunch I had the rice. I saw some "Fritter Bites" on special while at Woolies looking for something to have with it. I also bought some fresh Woolies lettuce mix. I would definitely buy this rice again.

Adding a little Mexicana Rice ....... I was really pleased to get this sample and looked forward to trying it out. This is not something that I would normally buy. I have only just bought myself a rice cooker and I rather like plain rice. Followed the easy directions on the packet (wow 90 seconds and it is done!) and my initial taste was great flavour with a kick of spice and was impressed. It was however a little dry (after a few mouthfuls) so I added it to my mince mixture and made enchiladas and it actually took it up a notch! (it needed the sauce to counteract the dryness). I was seriously impressed! It was a small packet suitable for 2 for $2. 00. Adding it to the enchilada mix, bulked it out to 6 enchiladas. I certainly thought it could be good to have in the cupboard as a convenient add on for when you are caught out when surprise visitors arrive.

Spicy Mexican! Thank you for this sample Bunch! I don't like heating food in plastic so popped the contents into a small casserole dishLid on and zapped for 90 seconds. It had a spicy aroma when I removed the lid. I served this with my Devilled Chicken Casserole and we both woofed the lot down in no time at all. It was such a delicious combination!!And thankfully it didn't upset his tummy but he said it was border line. So for that reason I won't repurchase this but for those who enjoy mexican and not too spicy a flavour I would recommend you try it!
Not for me. Picked this sample up over a week ago, but have struggled to find an opportunity to use it. I'm not a fan of pre-packaged rice and being Mexican Style, I wasn't particularly looking forward to taste testing this sample. Easy enough to locate in store and priced at $2. 00, it is certainly cheaper than the known brand at $3. 00. I followed the instructions, finding it heated up okay in the microwave as directed. Thankfully, I only served a very small portion on the side of my chicken stir fry, as I found it quite spicy (probably the pickled Jalapenos) and really not to my liking. It was definitely never going to make Mr H's plate in this lifetime. 100% made overseas so there was a lost for starters. Heaps of sodium at 319mg/serve and packaging that needs ... MoreNot for me. Sorry Woolies, I'm sure there are many out there that are happy with this product, but sadly not for me. But thanks for the opportunity to review.
Great addition to burrito bowls. I find cooking rice on the stove a real chore. I never get the quantity quite right, and can never get a perfect texture or quality. While I normally steer away from pre-prepared or microwave meals in favour of cooking from scratch, microwave rice is something I make an exception for. I added this mexican-flavoured rice to a burrito bowl, with mexican-flavoured beef mince, black beans, grated cheese, grated carrot, corn, cucumber and a dollop of sour cream. It was simple to put together (even the mince was frozen, leftover from a previous meal) so after chopping a few things and microwaving the mince, corn and rice, I had a meal prepared in under 10 minutes. The flavour was quite nice. I'm not a fan of spicy flavours but this was ... MoreGreat addition to burrito bowls. I find cooking rice on the stove a real chore. The flavour was quite nice. I'm not a fan of spicy flavours but this was nice and mild. May not be spicy or flavoursome enough for those with a higher tolerance to spice but it was ideal for me. I wouldn't say it was spicy whatsoever - and I have next to zero tolerance for spicy foods. The rice quality wasn't as good as if you had freshly cooked it yourself, not gluggy but not completely separate grains either. This wasn't an issue for me and the way I served it, but some may prefer a slightly drier product. I got this as a sample, but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this for myself again. At a shelf price of $2, I think it's great value, and a good product to have on hand in the cupboard.
Handy Flavoured Rice. This Mexican Style Rice pouch is clearly labelled and bright green which stands out from other pouches in the rice section. It’s quick and easy to heat. The rice is slightly brown from the sauce and spices. Quite a few beans and some small capsicum pieces throughout. The jalapeños do give the rice a kick. Was a little dry on it’s own, but mixed with some gravy was fine with our meat and vegetables. Can come out of the pouch a bit clumpy so have to make sure to squeeze the pouch before and after heating to loosen the rice grains. Very convenient, it’s got flavours mixed in and ready to serve if you’re in a hurry. Made in Thailand and priced at $2. 75.
Versatile Rice. We love Mexican food, so were excited to try this product. It was easy to locate in the aisle with rice, among the other rice mixes. At $2, it is a reasonable price to pay for a side dish. The dish is easy to prepare, just squeeze the packet to break up the rice, rip open and heat in the microwave for 90 seconds. The rice comes out lovely and fluffy. There are sufficient black beans, and I could see some capsicum as well. Easy to store in the pantry until ready for use. At it says on the front of the packet, great to serve with a burrito bowl, or could be added to a burrito as part of the wrapped version. Would also be perfect with chilli con carne and other Mexican dishes. The chilli and spices are enhanced by the addition of other foods, e. g. ... MoreVersatile Rice. The rice maintains some texture, so isn't 'mushy' to eat. There was a good hint of chilli - I tried some by itself first, so that I could give an accurate review. There was definitely enough in the packet for the two of us as a side dish. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. 3. 5 star health rating. Source of protein. Made in Thailand. The pouch can be returned to the store for recycling. Thanks so much for the opportunity to try.
Tasty side dish. I made chilli con carne to serve with this rice. Took inspiration from the back of pack serving suggestion and topped it with diced tomato, shredded lettuce and a dollop of sour cream. The serving size was spot on for 2 serves. Easy to prepare. The recommended 90 seconds microwave time heated the rice perfectly. The pouch does become very hot after heating and there is a warning on the pack. The rice was quite a good texture after I forked it to break up the grains a little more. Nice amount of spice and beans. Beans were quite dried out. I didn’t notice any jalapeño in the rice. It complemented the chilli con carne. We would normally just have steamed rice. I really can’t see me buying a flavoured rice to replace the steamed rice. Suggest it makes ... MoreTasty side dish. A really tasty snack. Ok, let me declare firstly that this review is from Miss 14. Easily found in the rice aisle this product is Made in Thailand (one star deducted as our usual product is made in Australia, although granted with only 10% Australian ingredients). The product contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. It has a 3. 5 health rating. However, she was very pleased with the end result. They suggest adding corn, avocado slices, chopped tomatoes and grilled chicken to the warmed rice, along with a squeeze of limed, chopped coriander and a dollop of sour cream. Thumbs up to the packaging as it very enticing and colourful.
