I was excited to receive this item and fully expected to love it. Yakima should be ashamed of themselves for taking what evidently was a good product before they owned it, and ruining it with cheap leaky hardware. Fortunately, the tank still seems to be made well and I have not had problems with the relief valve releasing at low pressures as others have said. My issue was that every attachment leaked, including the nozzle which was completely unusable. The quick disconnects leaked and I also had the issue Matt had that the spigot had to be installed until it stopped turning to reduce leakage and then it was facing in the wrong direction. To me, it is still worth it for the tank, but just know that is all you are getting with this. Everything else down to the ... MoreI was excited to receive this item and fully expected to love it. Everything else down to the mounting brackets were junk and that is quite annoying that at this price they can't put more thought into delivering a product that works out of the box. I can't fault REI for my discontent, it was all Yakima.

I really wanted to love this. I did not realize until after purchase that the RoadShower could not be used for drinking water due to use of lead in the product. Installation is straightforward enough however in the standard installation I could not get the spigot to install correctly. Seems almost like the threaded bung was misaligned during construction as the spigot would stop facing up. I removed the plug from other end and installed the spigot on that end and it worked as expected. This configuration actually worked better for my needs. I wound up replacing the quick disconnect with a higher quality alternative and the hose with a coiled model that is more functional. Water seems to heat up as expected and the unit holds pressure. Will see how it holds up over ... MoreI really wanted to love this. I did not realize until after purchase that the RoadShower could not be used for drinking water due to use of lead in the product. My last review wasn’t posted by Yakima, so we’ll see if this one sticks. I have no complaints about the actual black metal reservoir. It seems to have solid build quality...the welds could be cleaner, but that is not a deal breaker by any means! This product fails in the accessories. On first use the hose leaked, fittings leaked, and most significantly, the radius of the rubber gaskets are undersized for the ball valve, so they suck in to the end of the ball valve when they’re anything more than hand tight. This results in an inability to hold pressure (and more leaking). What is the point in having a nice, solid metal reservoir if the fittings won’t allow it to remain pressurized? Looking at the previous models of the Roadshower - pre-Yakima - it looked to have ... MoreMy last review wasn’t posted by Yakima, so we’ll see if this one sticks. Looking at the previous models of the Roadshower - pre-Yakima - it looked to have brass fittings. They’re now some hybrid alloy. Cost savings? At what expense? I purchased new gaskets, fittings, and hose, only to wonder why I’m paying $800 CAD for a defective product. I think I’ll be returning it instead. Too bad, could’ve been cool.

This is a quick review of the installation and testing of the RoadShower. I installed it on a '08 Toyota FJ Cruiser roof rack. It was mounted on the outside of the factory roof rack and attached with 4 points of contact on the vertical posts that separate the top and bottom rails of the rack. Although I had to make several minor modifications, the 7 gallon tank fit very well to the roof rack with the supplied brackets. The tank was mounted to the outside of the factory rack. I needed two more brackets than was included with the tank (for the recommended 4 points of attachment and Yakima got them out to me in very short order. I've only tested the but found that the pressurization is just as described and the temperature of the water heats up fast. I haven't installed it yet but I know it's going to be fantastic.
This is not a 5 star review. It’s actually a 1 star review - a downgrade from my previous 2 star review. Why is it 5 stars? Well, I learned from my last review that Yakima actually doesn’t post reviews that are less than 3 stars. I was told my review had to be forwarded to the marketing department for the exception. It was posted, but that is pretty disappointing transparency if negative reviews can’t be posted. I did try to post this as a 1 star review a week ago to see if they’d review it and it would ultimately make it to the website…but it didn’t. Since my last review I have returned the Roadshower and am waiting on a refund. I’ve gone with one of their main competitors and so-far-so-good. Since my last review I have returned the Roadshower and am waiting on a refund. I’ve gone with one of their main competitors and so-far-so-good. The reason I wanted to post this addendum was to show some pictures of what the aluminium anodized hardware looks like after 2 weeks in warm spring conditions on the back of my truck (it used to be black!). If this is after 2 weeks, I can’t imagine…. Yakima customer service were polite and offered to exchange parts, but I’m confident it would just keep happening over and over again. Obviously lots of design flaws with this product - avoid.
Amazing. Construction and finishing of the product is solid. Pressurised allows you to use less water as well. Looks great too. A longer hose would be handy.
Great product, very happy
This is a great product however falls short in a few areas. There are meant to be two ways to pressurise the unit. One by filling water in through the top cap, then using an air compressor. The other way is using a garden hose and connecting it to the water mains. However, the attachments do not fit a typical Australian garden hose configurement, in fact, they are a different system. The unit is designed to accept mains water pressure so this is disappointing that Yakima offer no instructions on how to make this work. There also appears to be very little feedback forthcoming from Yakima on this issue when contacted.
The metal tank is great however the attachments and customer support are terrible. I installed this and immediately the hose was leaking. Normally not a big deal but when I called Yakima support I was first told I must send a copy of my receipt and video of the leak and they "may" warranty it. I then sent the required video and receipt to be told the part was on backorder with absolutely no ETA for availability. REI did all they could to help me and even sent me a return label in case I wanted to return the product I spent an hour or more installing and setting up. Be aware that Yakima has NO customer support or concern for their products after the sale.
