A handy Guitar that punches well above its weight !

I have, like many folk, over a dozen guitars. Some acoustic, some pure electric and some acoustic /electric. This Yamaha, is one of the best purchases I have ever made, it firstly sounds great through my Roland Street Amp and BOSS delay and secondly is so very handy to take out on trips, particularly when space is at a premium. The advantage of playing either with or without amplification is very important to me and overall this Guitar ticks ALL the boxes for me. The service from PMT was excellent too, what more can you ask ?

Great service from PMT, as usual. The APXT2 is a well put-together small guitar, with a good, playable neck and comfortable body size.Stable tuning, as with all the APX family. Sound is a bit thin but plug it in and it really shines.Bought it for my wife, who after xx years has decided to give guitar a go and she loves it.I've had several APXs in the past, all of which were great bits of kit. This one doesn't disappoint.

I purchased this guitar for myself to use when I travel, but it is so convenient to just grab whenever I have some time, it's becoming my go to practice guitar at home. This guitar is so comfortable to play, I can practice much longer without becoming fatigued. At first I had difficulty figuring out how to hold the thing, but then I just started holding it more like a classical guitar or mandolin, and everything fell into place. I thought the shorter scale length might be a problem when transitioning to a standard scale length guitar, but I'm not finding that to be the case. The on-board tuner is very convenient and the batteries are very easily accessed. The electronics are simple, but more than adequate. The tuning machines are a bit chintzy, but my guitar is staying in tune fairly well. The sound is surprisingly large for such a small guitar, even when unplugged. Its sound is on the brighter side, and lacks the richness you would expect in a larger, more expensive guitar, but I wouldn't compare it to a ukulele as others have done. It definitely has a guitar sound. The only negatives I would give are on the finish--the fret edges are a bit sharp and the finish has a few very small factory defects--and the gig bag which is not much more than a dust cover with handles. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. My rating is in comparison with similar guitars. I've tried out a few 3/4 size guitars in this price range, and this one is definitely a notch above the others.

Great little guitar!
5 January 2023

I received mine for Christmas. I'm a professional musician. I teach and perform often. I only say that for the beginning musicians or if someone wants the opinion of someone that has many years of experience. It played great out of the box, but I set mine up to the specs I like. I love playing this guitar! I can take it and play it anywhere in the house! Of course, you cannot expect it to sound like a really expensive guitar, but I honestly love the tone unplugged. It sounds old school. Plugged in, it's great, and I will be playing it at my next gig! I will bring another acoustic, in case I need it, but otherwise, I'll be sporting this thing the whole night! Strap buttons already installed, and you get a gig bag too! Perfect for grab and go!

Love this guitar!
3 November 2021

Owning a full size dreadnaught acoustic; a parlor size acoustic; and a Strat; I find myself always going for this little giant. It sounds incredible, and is physically so comfortable. I now understand why really great guitarists call this their "go-to" instrument. Check out some of the YouTube reviews for people who are great players. This little guy sounds awesome acoutically, as well as electric. Highly suggest conditioning the fret and bridge as the rosewood is really dry from sitting in a warehouse. Sucks up the oil. BTW, I have big hands, and the width of the fret board is perfect.

I have small hands - actually small everything! For that reason I prefer 3/4 size guitars, and bought the Yamaha APXT2 for that reason. I’m not disappointed. It is remarkably East’s to play, and sounds good, especially through an amp. The strumming has to be light or it sounds muddy, which is often the case with such small bodied guitars, but, again, when amplified, it’s fine. Probably closer to a half-size than 3/4, but I think you’ll love it, unless your hand/fingers are too big. Buy it - it’s good, and for that price it’s a must!

Potentially a superb little guitar

Although I bought this guitar online from PMT (excellent service) I also posted a detailed review on Amazon UK where I also counselled against paying the stupid prices being charged by some of their affiliates. The PMT price was excellent. There were a few negatives with my guitar, all of which I was able to cure or tweak: the action was ridiculously high and until I altered the battery holder, the pickup and tuner wouldn't work. However, they were hopefully one-off problems. The guitar has far better tone that you might expect from an all-laminate guitar, especially if you play above the soundhole or at the end of the fretboard at around the 17th fret. Played with a hard pick it can sound a bit 'thin' but played with fingers or with a less aggressive 'attack' it ... MoreAlthough I bought this guitar online from PMT (excellent service) I also posted a detailed review on Amazon UK where I also counselled against paying the stupid prices being charged by some of their affiliates. I am 75 with normally sized adult hands and do not find any problems with the fretting or scale length. Having made the adjustments, it's become my go-to acoustic guitar . . . and as I also have a GS Mini, that it is praise indeed. If you buy this guitar, I'd suggest changing the strings although the generic type which are fitted are OK. I changed them whilst shaving the saddle and fitted D'Addario 10's. This guitar is ideal for adult 'noodling' + a beginner of any age + a travel guitar. It has proved to be an excellent buy . . . for more detail, check out my review on Amazon UK but I doubt you'll find a better price or service than PMT.

Sweet little guitar
9 December 2021

I have a nylon string guitalele that I love to play sitting on the couch relaxing with. I wanted something similar, except with steel strings. I ran across this little Yamaha on YouTube, and decided to give it a try. It's only about 2.5 inches longer than my guitalele. I love the size of it. It sounds good for such a small guitar. It has a sweet musical tone. Intonation is great, very playable. Plugged in, it sounds very natural. The gig bag that comes with it is pretty thin and doesn't offer much protection. I purchased an SKB Baby Taylor/Martin LX case for it from MF. It is a perfect fit, and a very nice case. I'm loving it!

Travel Guitar
17 December 2021

I bought this guitar because I have chronic pain and am a small lady and found that even smaller acoustic guitars are too big and bulky and unplayable. I like to play high up on the neck so wanted a cutaway and occasionally perform so having an electro-acoustic version means it ticks all the boxes. When play acoustically it does sound really tinny, there's not getting away from that. It also tends to be unbalanced toward the neck end, so I need a strap to keep it in place. But it is much more playable for practice and I am almost managing to play bar chords again. Not chance on a normal size guitar. It has a full fret board just smaller but not too small.

YAMAHA APXT2 ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC GUITAR 3/4 SIZE SLIMLINE

It was perfecty in tune and for a guitar of this size it's got such a beautiful tone playing ACOUSTIC. So I plugged it in and it's as good as it sounded on YouTube. As an 67 yesr old man who started playing guitar when I was 16 years old, this is a beauty. I recommend this guitar to beginners, anyone with small hands and even people who want a good guitar to take with them without taking up much space in your car. Yep, it's a beaty.
