I love the range of tones that I get from this bass. Construction is flawless. The only issue I have with it is the tuning peg for the G string. Being on the bottom side of the headstock, it is susceptible to turning when carried by the handles of a gig bag. Obviously, this will take the G string out of proper tuning. All 5 pegs on the top side would be better.

This instrument is absolutely in the top tier of other well known upper end builders.I find it to sound "classic", but at the same time having that something extra that BB's are known for plus great definition and clarity.The playability is superb and the build quality it up there with the best of them.I also do hear a difference with the wood treatment they use on these basses. It sounds played in and feels played in.This has become my workhorse instrument. I just love it.

Very surprised that the tuner is bad and just feels like it's grinding. Musicians Friend can send me a new full set of other type of tuners, but I want the original Yamaha to send me one tonight. No response this is after waiting over a year for this bass.
I started playing Yamaha basses about six years ago when I happened across a used TRB5P II. I have played for over 50 years and owned dozens of high end basses- Pedulla, Musicman, Fender, Modulus, Warwick. You name it they have graced the wall of my home studio, and many still do. This BBP35 was traded and I have to admit I was truly impressed when I received it. Not fancy, but everything that went in to this bass is top notch and the construction is flawless. Rivals anything else I have. Fabulous fast neck, hot passive pick ups that give this bass plenty of sonic options. In my opinion these basses are underpriced compared to other offerings on the market. Check one it, it will blow your mind how nice a bass this is.
Used on the stage and in the studio. Very quiet electronics when idle but awesome full sound when played. Balances nicely and not too heavy. I've always wanted a 5-string P-bass and this is better than a Fender. Almost like buying a Custom Shop bass for a fraction of the price.
The bass is GREAT, the case not so much. the case has a nice finish but lousy hardware Would have preferred a better hardshell ABS case more suited for gigging. But I love the bass, no mods needed, well maybe a different color pick guard lol
For the last six months I have been trying to find a new bass. Went through Ibanez, Scheter, Music Man, Lakland and Fenders up to custom and limited editions. None played like the Yamaha BBP35 or even sounded as good as the BBP35. Hats off to Yamaha for a quality, professional bass. Played many basses through the years high end and expensive custom shops. Yamaha outplays them all.
Excellent bass, it just oozes quality. Versatile, even tone, impeccable build, extremely high output! Honestly, if you want a p/J bass just go for it. The only minor gripe is the factory strings are D'addario, which aren't my favourite.
