It is a great receiver! Scene buttons are very convenient, all the music enhancer works great. Most of all it has ypao system, when you put a mic on the spot you hear music and run a test, it autimatically measure the distance between speakers and optimize to the best speaker setting! it is amazing product! It also has 4 hdmi input and audio return chennel as well!

I finally got around to buying a 5.1 system (yes, it was time to leave the stone age), and really couldn't be happier with this purchase. Great surround sound and lots of features without breaking the bank. If you're spending countless hours reading reviews on various websites looking for a very good 5.1 receiver at a great price, then you've finally found the right one. I was a little troubled when I read some of the negative comments on the lower priced Onkyo and Pioneer units, and am very relieved I didn't make a mistake and spend my hard earned cash on one of those (that's why I'm writing this review :). My RX-V471 is coupled with Polk TL3 Blackstone center and rear surround speakers, Def Tech ProMonitor 1000 front surrounds (I wanted the bigger drivers), and a Polk PSW111 compact sub. Totally rocks my modest 22X12 living room. Go Yamaha!

This is an excellent receiver. Simple. Not overloaded with gimmicks you don't need. High power for loud action movies. Good, clean sound at low levels all the way up. Easy setup and interacts with other components.

The receiver performs flawlessly, great sound, nice front usb port for my Itouch.I have been a audio bug for 50 years but I have never seen such a poor attempt at providing an owner manual. I hate setup CDs. Give us a printed manual...yes I know I can print one, but why don't you give us one.The set up was quite difficult and made more difficult than necessary by the poor organization of the instructional material. Hire a jr. high teacher to write your manuals so they are logical and understandable.
I needed a new receiver for my living room surround sound system. I only needed a 5.1 and after researching what was out there (price vs wattage/functions) this is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. This thing does video switching flawlessly and sounds great (I set up the system with YPAO). I honestly can not find anything to gripe about. I bought this knowing full well it was a "B stock" item and the only thing that is different from the new stock ones that are over a hundred dollars more is the shorter warranty (1 year).
I was replacing a 10 year old Kenwood, and after several hours of internet research, decided on the Yamaha. It is paired with Energy speakers and sounds fabulous. Set up was relatively easy and the automatic surround sound system was spot on. I would highly recommend this product.
I was concerned about the prior reviewer claiming Tuner performance was poor. Using the same (old) antenna that was on my Sony AVR, the RX-V471 is pulling in FM stations better than the Sony did. Also happy to report that the LFE/Sub-Output is working fine. Played (decoded) HD audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA perfectly. Also played (bitstreamed) PCM audio perfectly. Got it for 200 and can be caught for 150 today.... buy it.
I had an ancient 10-12 year old Kenwood KS-303HT that my neighbor gave me because the front panel was not working properly. I was able to make it work for about 5 years(remote only). A few years ago I started upgrading my entertainment setup with a new 50 inch Panasonic plasma and complemented it with a Panasonic blu ray player which both had HDMI capabilities so I struggled with a great picture without good sound. So time for an upgrade for my sound. I knew upon researching AV receivers that I would enhance my sound quality but never thought that a AV receiver could offer so much more. It's now like base camp for my DVR, blu ray and X-Box. Products I was looking at was the Pioneer VSX-522-K and Denon AVR-1513. What sold me on yours was not the price due to the others being cheaper in price at the time of purchase. What sold me was the reviews I read on CNET and Audioholics. They claimed that it was very easy to use and with my family that's a must. Upon opening the box I was very impressed with the looks of it. I now will show boat it rather then hide it like I did with my Kenwood. I'm still in the process of hooking it up, but so far so good. I still have the old Kenwood speakers with a powered sub. They sound OK but I'm thinking I might have to upgrade those as well. But with my finances i'm unable to at this point in my life. Hope I have no problems with this purchase. Take care!!
My wife and I purchased this Yamaha RX-V471 A/V Receiver from Newegg as a Christmas gift to ourselves last year (Nov. 2012). We paired it with a set of Yamaha 5.1 surround sound speakers. We bought it to replace an older Yamaha RX-V393 Receiver that we have, which is now in my workshop, along with my Teac Equalizer and my set of βBβ speakers. So far, we are very pleased with this unit. Even though it has plenty of settings for those that wish to adjust everything, it was very simple to hookup. Overall, we would highly recommend this unit, or any other Yamaha sound product for that matter.
I believe for the money spent I couldn't buy a better receiver. The YPAO is easy to run in order to zero in your sound. Perfect for noobs. I'm using the Polk 70's up front 30's for surround & PSW505 sub. After running YPAO I went in to see how the receiver setup my speakers. The 70's were set to large & the 30's to small. The overall sound after playing with the different sound combinations is great!
