Oh my goodness . . . I decided to pick up the clarinet again after a 49 year break. I was determined to get the instrument I wanted at a price that made sense. This instrument has a beautiful tone, and though I haven't played for years, I am already playing better than I did with my student instrument back in high school. So blessed to have found this! Plus, it came much sooner than I expected so that was a bonus too.

This clarinet was not in great condition but is structurally sound. Wood dry and discoloured but has come up looking new after application of oil. Will have corks and pads replaced soon for nominal cost at which time instrument will be in very good condition

As I did not have alot of money to spare to buy a real expensive clarinet and also needed an upgrade, this model of clarinet answered my call. I had always played a yamaha clarinet since high school, and was happy and using this brand.This clarinet has a lovely finish to the body and the keys are good quality and not cheap looking.I love the rich, mello sound this clarinet produces in the lower register and the pleasent tones in the upper register when played. However, this can be fixed with a bit of elbow grease and silver polish.As for playing the instrument, the keys on this clarinet as not difficult to hold down and are pretty steardy and robust. However, the low E/ middle B and the low F#/ C# keys are a little clunky and stiff as the springs are a bit too tight. However, this does not hinder the playing of the instrument and therefore not a huge worry.I think in general, all yamaha instruments are pretty robust to damage as my clarinet had been knocked over a few times and is still in good working order.

A step up for me to a really professional clarinet. It has a wonderful rich tone - my first wooden clarinet - it’s a beauty and I look forward to years of making music with it!
First ever wooden clarinet and so far, only a week in, really pleased with it. Plays well and fitted together well (I thought it may be a little tight fitting). Case is far too small for my liking as there is no storage inside case for reeds etc, but can these be stored in outer case.
I have never had a new clarinet before, so i didn't know how different I would find this instrument. I thought my tone was clear on my old Boozy, but when I played on this, the difference was amazing. Has a lovely clear tone. Very responsive keys. Wish I had managed to buy it before. I am not a professional player, but for me, this is all I need. Very pleased with it.
This is a great clarinet. It's rated as intermediate but it really is entry level professional. It has a very focused tone and the tuning is excellent. Like all Yamaha instruments the build quality is of the finest.The key work feels very comfortable and it plays well with a variety of mouthpieces. The YCL52 really has no bad points, and plenty of good ones. Yamaha clarinets are one of the clarinet world's best kept secrets.
