This is a wood product with a very rich warm tone. Comes with a reed (kind of Hard but will mellow after playing) hard case, cork grease, a cleaning cloth and even a soft case that has a zipper for music and assessories. Key action is fantastic and pads seat consistently. This clarinet is to be played for only 1/2 hour at a time for the first two weeks...presumably for the wood as the moisture and temparature elevating to quickly could crack the instrument.

I hadnt even started playing it and I already loved it! I carried it home with me, along with my bassoon case, and after applying cork greaseablew into it! Impeccable! That is all I can say. My friend who is first chair clarinet has an R13, so I wanted to compare my sound to her sound. I sound GREAT with to her. There is VERY little difference! I sound much better than the kid who has an E11, too. As for the case, I love how miniscule it is! There is not very much room, but there is enough to get by with, and I always have a little bag for my supplies, anyway. I can cram it into my book bag (With care, of course!) and for once, have a free hand to hold other things on those dreaded days where I have to carry two instruments! I also love how the case looks! I love how the instrument looks! I LOVE THIS CLARINET! Trust me; you will love it, too!

We needed an upgrade that would make it through high school and college and this is what my son's instructor suggested. He noticed a difference right away from his student clarinet. His instructor wants one for herself!
Bought this to replace an R13 Buffet, which was bothering me after few rounds of repairs. SamAsh deal was the best online. With 0%- 24 month financing. Product was packaged from Yamaha. Customer Support Rep threw in additional discount as the product was back ordered - I am happy.

I had always played a yamaha clarinet since high school, and was happy and using this brand.This clarinet has a lovely finish to the body and the keys are good quality and not cheap looking.I love the rich, mello sound this clarinet produces in the lower register and the pleasent tones in the upper register when played. Playing above high C is pleasent as it does not sound like a cat being strangled.This clarinet I find is easy to tune without pulling the barrel out too far to reveal the cork.As I had just picked up my clarinet to play it again after a break of three years, I found that the keys began to dis- colour as ... However, this can be fixed with a bit of elbow grease and silver polish.As for playing the instrument, the keys on this clarinet as not difficult to hold down and are pretty steardy and robust. However, the low E/ middle B and the low F#/ C# keys are a little clunky and stiff as the springs are a bit too tight. However, this does not hinder the playing of the instrument and therefore not a huge worry.I think in general, all yamaha instruments are pretty robust to damage as my clarinet had been knocked over a few times and is still in good working order.

Just call Yamaha and they will send you the proper mouthpiece cover.Accordingly, the Japanese managers recognized that clarinet professionals usually bought their own mouthpiece and mouthpiece cover. To the best of my knowledge, they are not substituting the mouthpiece with an inferior one. You can confirm this. Just look for a stamp on the mouthpiece that says "4CM". Anything else is a substitute.Again, I cannot say enough good about this clarinet. It is absolutely superb and I do not hesitate to recommend it.

SInce I recieved this amazing clarinet, I have discovered Vandoren 56 Rue Lepic reeds and Brancher Jazz Double-Cut reeds! They both work very well on it.I have added a new ligature--a luyben one. It was to replace the not-top-quality stock one. Thelogature so far has been my ONLY complaint obn this entire clarinet! With Buffet clarinets, you recieve a stock mouthpiece that isn't too great. I have found the mouthpiece supplied with this to be quite good for a stock one! Even so, I am planning on getting another soon. I was looking for the highest quality instrument for a reasonable price without getting into the $2K range. Tried an E11 and was very disappointed with intonation issues and breathy throat tones. Tried the Yamaha YCL450 and was pleased with its even intonation, but it wasn't as easy-playing as I expected and had fuzzy mid-range notes also, which I was told would be fixed with a pad adjustment. Decided to try 650 instead and glad i did! For the minor price difference (with a sale and rebate, especially!) the silver keys, beautiful wood, playability/great action are much better - definitely worth it. C# a bit fuzzy but will likely be fixed with pad adjustment. Clearest throat A I have played on any instrument. My only minor complaints are that low E and F are not as ... My son has been playing the YCL-650 for 3 years (he just completed his Sophomore year in high school). The progress he's made has been amazing (he made his all-state band this year). The tone on this horn is deep and rich. It's a pretty good alternative to moving all the way up to the professional-level horns other manufacturers make (that cost about twice as much).
