Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium is a sweet, gourmand, intense fragrance, very sexy and seductive. The aroma makes me think of a Parisian pastry shop, in the morning, with a hot cup of intense dark coffee and a croissant aside. The fragrance smells to me like a coffee with nutmeg, chocolate and vanilla topping. It is sweet, gourmand and you can almost fell the taste of hot coffee on the tip of the tongue. It opens up with pink pepper, orange blossom and pear, giving that gourmand aromatic scent, quickly followed by coffee, jasmin, bitter almond and licorice, for that sweet spicy coffee I war talking about earlier, all layered down on a vanilla, patchouli, cedar and cashmere wood perfect mix. The sillage of this fragrance is very good and the fragrance is quite long ... MoreYves Saint Laurent Black Opium is a sweet, gourmand, intense fragrance, very sexy and seductive. Black Opium by YSL is so overhyped and overrated. It is a spicy-sweet perfume. There are very nice floral notes in it that are similar to other YSL perfumes. But the notes that stand out the most are pink pepper and vanilla. I really like the florals in it, but vanilla is way too strong and makes it overly sweet. I personally think that any perfume that has vanilla as a dominant scent is basic and easy made. The lasting power of this perfume is weak, only 2-3 hours, and the projection is medium. Almost every young adult woman uses this perfume, so it's not original. Besides all that, it will be a good blind present for a teenager or somebody in their early 20s.... Show more

I received this sample of Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent and fell in love with this incredible fragrance! Warm and sexy scent. This oriental spicy fragrance has a blend of coffee, pink pepper, orange blossom, jasmine, vanilla, patchouli, and cedar notes. Gives off a very seductive, romantic aroma while wrapping you in the most divine luxury fragrance. This is such an attractive smell and not too powerful at all. A little spray goes a long way and lasts HOURS!! This is a great scent for fall and can take you right into winter. I will be purchasing a full-size bottle of this fragrance when this one runs out. If you like deep, strong, sexy notes, Black Opium is that. Highly, highly recommend!... Show more

Long-lasting!
I had tested YSL Black Opium in store a few times, but was never a fan and didn’t understand why there was so much hype over it. It wasn’t until I actually tried wearing the perfume on myself that I realized how amazing it smells!A little goes a long way, I only need 1 to 2 sprays. Throughout the day I will randomly get a whiff of the fragrance and remember I’m wearing it. It’s very long-lasting! I could still smell a hint of it on my clothing after it had been through the wash. The scent feels soft and refined, yet subtly sweet - which is what I think is so intriguing about this perfume. I can smell the notes of vanilla and patchouli but personally I do not smell the black coffee notes. It has a sexy musk to it which I love, but I think makes this scent perfect ... I wouldn’t see this as something my mom or any middle aged woman would be drawn towards or pick up on first glance at the store.Overall, Black Opium is a really amazing perfume and I will continue to wear it. If you’re like me and are hesitant or not sure you like it, pick up a sample and try wearing it! I think this might be one of those fragrances that really works better on the skin than on a little piece of card stock.... Show more

Not for me!
I don’t love vanillas—or maybe I should say vanillas don’t love me, because 90% of the time they smell very off-putting and artificial on me. I do not reach for gourmands, ever. Tom Ford’s Black Orchid may be a bad influence as far as vanilla goes; it’s my absolute favorite nighttime scent even though it has some whispers of vanilla. TFBO always gets me compliments, and feels comfortable to wear, perhaps because it’s got some complexity and is well-blended.Though similar in name, Black Opium lacks all the sexy, va-va-boom I was hoping for. It is INCREDIBLY sweet, first of all, it’s a sucker punch of pungent, saccharine vanilla. After spraying and once it’s settled on my skin, I do get faint whiffs of coffee and licorice and MAYBE a ghostly apparition of patchouli ... After spraying and once it’s settled on my skin, I do get faint whiffs of coffee and licorice and MAYBE a ghostly apparition of patchouli appears, but overall, this is straight up sugar water. I will also say this gave me a headache upon applying, but I am prone to headaches from certain fragrances, so that’s not necessarily indicative of anything about the juice itself. The one positive note for me—it didn’t last particularly long. I tested it while doing chores around the house, and found the scent (and the headache) to wear off in less than two hours.I understand fragrances are subjective, and perfumes smell different on different people! I’m sure someone else could wear this, walk by me, and it would smell lovely on them and I would have absolutely no idea it’s Black Opium. However, on me, this smells like vanilla garbage—it’s like imitation vanilla extract. The actual experience of wearing it feels like the migraine you get after having too many espresso martinis made with bottom shelf vanilla vodka. I absolutely hate this perfume on me, and I would not recommend it to anyone except people who love vanilla gourmand scents.... Show more

Questionable?
I've read reviews regarding this perfume being possibly counterfeit, and this is my impression of my half-priced Opium perfume. At first glance, the plastic securing the box seemed unusually heavy. Second, looking at the box itself, something seems off. Third, the bottle looks and feels right compared to the bottle of Opiom I already have. Fourth, I sprayed perfume from my new bottle and old bottle onto two separate socks and noticed the spray on my new bottle was very generous with the amount of perfume, and on my old bottle, the spray was more precise. As for the smell of the new bottle, it smells like Opiom with a little rubbing alcohol. However, when I smelled both socks a few hours later, they both smelled the same, and the smell of alcohol was gone. If this is ... Smells good but DEFINITELY does not last long!
I initially purchased the illicit version but returned it due to its name (meaning) even though i LOVE the smell and purchased the Eau De Parfum instead in 150ml! because it came as a sample in my package and i liked it. I must say i am very disappointed as it doesn't last at all on me. It lasts about 2hrs or so and i had to respray. I sprayed it 3hrs ago again and now i can hardly smell it on me :(. Its so sad, it smells good but just doesn't last long. The illicit lasted the entire day on my skin and 2.5days on my cloth. I would recommend that instead to anyone as long as you dont read meaning to the product names. Im not satisfied, and i should have purchased a smaller bottle to try and not the 150ml but i thought i would love it and was saving by buying the big ...
