A fragrance for the woman who is driven by her senses, drawing us into a festive and olfactive world under green neon lights. This scent is a bold and unique twist on the Black Opium addictive coffee signature, with a surprising and juicy green mandarin super essence and a delicious creamy fig accord. The result is simply an addictive shot of adrenaline. Scandalously green. Scandalously glittery. The bottle is green as the zesty and pulpy scent inside. Energising, loud and fresh. The hue that lights up the round window of the new Black Opium bottle also draws its inspiration from one of Yves Saint Laurent’s most iconic and scandalous pieces that rocked and shocked the world since 1971. Spray on pulse points as desired.

I like this one way more than the Og Black Opium. Haven’t tried the neon one though. At first I picked up a travel size and then got a full bottle because I see myself reaching for it a lot. It smells delicious, if you’re into white florals with gourmand notes you might like this. The vanilla wraps up everything and makes it addictive. It’s confusing because, on Sephora the description of the notes doesn’t really match what I smell. Maybe my nose is broken but I don’t smell the green mandarin or fig for the life of me. Only the orange blossom and jasmine with the vanilla/coffee base… The performance is really good, I don’t need a lot for it to project. First off, let me say I’ve loved used YSL beauty products fragrances ever since I was first introduced to them in my early 20s while working in the beauty department at Saks 5th Avenue back in the late 90s… Now that I’m on disability though I don’t typically get to experience that level of luxury on a daily basis until this showed up on my doorstep (thank you Influenster YSL!!!). Needless to say, this new fragrance is incredible… and YSL Fragrances rarely disappoint (except they’ve released over 200 since 1964 discontinue most of them causing devotees utter sadness)… So… Buy this right now someday it will be worth a TON lol! Sorry I got off topic, but if you like gourmand fragrances that are warm spicy then you are going to fall in love with this one. It has notes of black coffee, creamy fig juicy green mandarin orange which become an exhilarating intoxicating combination! The bottle is stunning too! So now for the bad news… having chronic migraines I can only use a very light mist of this on my wrists because it is very strong. This doesn’t bother me when I smell it on other people, but for some reason when certain fragrances are sprayed directly onto my neck it’s very triggering (my fellow migraine sufferers will understand). I was devastated, but my mom happened to be here when I received it put some on… and it smells heavenly on her! She was really in need of a little blessing too since my dad just recently passed in October (after 48 years of marriage). It has now become her new signature fragrance she wears it every single day! For some reason it doesn’t trigger me to smell it on her so I still get to enjoy it every time I see her, and if we hug after she’s just applied it I get the perfect amount of secondary transfer! Try it! You won’t regret it! 😍

First off, this bottle with the green window is beautiful and the weight of everything feels luxurious without too much fuss. Unusual custom shaped bottles can be pretty but also hard to hold. This is lovely and functional and I don't think it is slippery or likely to fall out of hand due to the overall gritty glittery texture. The knob at the top was hard to open the first time but ever since has been fine and I can use it easily and seems secure. Most importantly what is on the inside? It's hard to comprehend what coffee and figs and mandarin will blend together to become. It is surprising how I like it. It's a little spicy and warm but it's still floral. Vanilla is not a note per the card but I smell an undertone of vanilla that seems undeniable. Vanilla is not a note per the card but I smell an undertone of vanilla that seems undeniable. To compare this to the flagship? This is a slightly more fresh iteration of the original. I would say this is still firmly a gourmand scent and won't be confused with a light airy musk based scent for sure but in comparison to big sister is more playful and lively with the green opening so I can see why they matched that feeling with the green window on the bottle. I generally like YSL fragrances because I enjoy the complexity. It starts off rather aggressive but breaks down over time. First I start not noticing any crisp green notes and I basically smell sweet vanilla-esk coffee. Not like shot of espresso, more like a vanilla latte. I can personally smell it but the degree of pungency does decrease and I want to acknowledge this since there seem to be mix of "it doesn't last" complaints mixed in with "it lasts forever until you bathe" reviews and that's confusing. I can personally smell it the next day on my wrist if I press my nose up against it so I think it is rather long lasting given I just do one spritz but the throw is significantly reduced. If you're a fresh floral kind of gal like me this is might be a good step into a more mature heady winter scent. If you're a spicy musky oriental fan you'll probably just stick to the original and bypass this flanker.

YSL's new Black Opium Illicit Green Eau de Parfum is everything the title states above and more! Yves Saint Laurent tapped Master Perfumer Nathalie Lorson & award winning Parisian mixologist Margot Lecarpentier to work together to bring us this new formulation within the 'Black Opium' family. Needless to say, they outdid themselves with this euphoric scent. I absolutely love the original and didn't think it could get any better. I stand corrected. If there is a perfect scent out there, this is it, in my opinion! The ingredients that were used and the perfect blend of notes playing out with every spray of YSL's Black Opium Illicit Green Eau de Parfum is sheer perfection! Upon first spraying, I take in the rich, black coffee espresso along with luscious, creamy fig and the sweet indulgence of balsamic vanilla melded into this beautiful mixture of jasmine & orange blossom. All of that folds into a lush abundance of zesty green mandarin giving it an exciting & unique take on the original fragrance. Every note seemingly melts into the next with great ease leaving the most beautiful, yet not overwhelming, accord of sensory perfection. I found that this lovely parfum lasted for hours; although, it did continuously soften as time passed. With that being said, I quite enjoyed the manner in which it softened over time. Lastly, the bottle that houses the YSL Black Opium Illicit Green Eau de Parfum is a masterpiece just like it's formula contents. They started with the shape we all know and love from the original and added this beautiful textured finish that sparkles with every turn & twist of the bottle in your hand. The big surprise, however, is the fascinating vividly, green window in the center of the bottle that gives a look of edginess & excitement! This parfum truly is beautiful inside & out! In short, I look forward to every single spray! Simply put....happiness abounds with each and every application!

Lovely but short sillage
1 April 2022

I was intrigued to try this new flanker after seeing advertisements. I was able to get a free sample. It smells very similar to the original but is a softer & lighter version. While I don’t detect certain notes like coffee etc I feel like it would be a better choice to wear in spring/summer. The original can be too heavy especially in warmer climates during the summer months. As much as I loved the scent of this flanker, from application to the dry down, the sillage is very disappointing. I noticed within 3hrs how much it had faded & was barely detectable around 5hrs. At first I thought it was just me but others struggled to find a scent without directly smelling my wrist. This is an issue I have with many other scents I have tried. Lovely scents that disappeared within a few short hours. Then there are a few that are so strong I can still smell them even after washing my wrists multiple times in a row or are still lingering in the air as if I just sprayed it after I return home after a long day at work. I don’t care for that either. I’m still searching for a great lighter summer scent that lasts for 6-8hr work day. This flanker would be lovely for dinner or an event with its short sillage but I feel that the price is a little to high for that. I wanted to love it but unfortunately I won’t be purchasing this one.

For decades, I wore the original Chanel No, 19. Then Chanel introduced the Poudre version of No. 19 in 2011, and I could no longer find the original. It was my signature fragrance. So I've been searching for a green floral replacement ever since. Gucci Bamboo is good. Replica Matcha Meditation is also a nice choice. But Black Opium Illicit Green is such a wonderfully soft and sexy fragrance that I am now addicted to it. It's BETTER than Chanel No. 19. The scent has layers and layers that work together to create a wonderful aroma. And a little goes a very long way. I sprayed a small sample on my arm 6 hours ago and it is still noticeable.

Avid perfume collector like it’s my life lol. Received complimentary, but my OWN opinion. I’ve ALWAYS hated the smell of original BO. My most FAV perfume EVER; my sig. scent was BO Floral Shock. LOVE fruity florals, with sensual woodsy, amber musk smells as the base. Not powdery “old” floral. BO Floral Shock was ALL that for me, had incredible sillage, and 1-2 sprays lasted me all day, night, and would still be on clothes in hamper, I’d worn previous day. Was excited to try this, since Floral Shock is discontinued, and I’ve been on the hunt again, for “The One” ever since, without finding it. This perfume to ME, for my body chemistry: I do NOT EVER smell ANY hint of citrus, nor anything “green,” woodsy, herbal, etc. It’s not a “clean, fresh scent,” like DG Light ... MoreAvid perfume collector like it’s my life lol. So steer clear, if that’s what you like. Illicit Green’s scent, to me, is floral—similar to Floral Shock, but MUCH less intense. As it dries down, I can smell that same warm, sensual, seductive, amberish musky smell I loved about it, too. My only REAL gripe is that it’s NOT strong ENOUGH for me. I like EDP with high sillage, where 1-2 sprays lasts ALL day and night. I tested this one in various conditions, activity levels, and environments. So I’m thinking it’s just MY body chemistry. No matter if I was breaking a sweat, working out, outside, inside, or simply sitting home on the couch.. No matter if I applied to every single pulse point (TONS of sprays), sprayed hair/clothes also, and even tried applying over lotion/Vaseline.. It only EVER lasted me personally 4 hours, 5 tops, before it was nonexistent. It’s a LOVELY smell, that I do really like. Packaging is gorgeous, and love the color. But I’d have to either purchase an atomizer to fill, to carry in purse, or carry whole 1 oz bottle, to refresh TONS of sprays every 4 hrs, which = me running out of it fast… and spending too much money. Smells delish!! So try it, and see if it lasts longer/works better for your body chemistry!

Soft Green Black Opium, Not Impressed
12 February 2022

Tried and tested this perfume and it's just ok. I used to own Floral Shock (discontinued sadly) and it was a bright, sparkling, energetic version of the OG Black Opium with extremely good longevity and sillage. Seeing the description of this perfume, it seemed like they were trying to do something similar but with a newer, greener take on it so I was excited. When I smelled this though, I couldn't help but feel disappointed by the smell and silage. The perfume first opens differently than the rest of the line (which is great) with the green mandarin note. Then, the classic Black Opium vanilla and coffee notes come up but not as sweet and bold as in the OG Black Opium perfume. After 20 minutes, the scent dries down with that black opium DNA mixed with some ... MoreTried and tested this perfume and it's just ok. Then, the classic Black Opium vanilla and coffee notes come up but not as sweet and bold as in the OG Black Opium perfume. After 20 minutes, the scent dries down with that black opium DNA mixed with some creaminess. The longevity is just ok but the silage is really soft. I had to smell upclose on my skin within 15-20 minutes of wear and even then, sometimes I couldn't smell it.This perfume is not bad, but it's not groundbreaking either. It seems like they shied away from making too bold of a change for a new Black Opium flanker and thus, making it smell too 'safe'. It's neither here nor there. The fig isn't really prominent and tbh neither is the mandarin. The biggest change is the opening with the green mandarin for 5 minutes. But other than that, it's really just a softer, slightly creamy, slightly sweet Black Opium. That in itself is not a bad thing though for people who want a safer, less sweet version of Black Opium. But after seeing all the advertisements and smelling this, it left me longing for a Black Opium that was true to itself and confident enough to make a statement. For a perfume that was advertised to be juicy, pulpy, thrilling, and sparkling (as stated on the YSL website), I can't seem to find it anywhere. Maybe if they advertised this as a softer green Black Opium then this maybe could've worked.Recommend for those who want a softer version of Black Opium. Otherwise, disappointed

Very similar to the OG, with slight differences

I only have samples of Black Opium original & flankers, and I finally sprung for this one since I love fig and lighter fragrances. This is still sweet, but is less “in your face” and may be appropriate for more social settings. It still is in no way a fresh or light fragrance, so if that is what you’re looking for, you’ll want to pass on this.Opening: Sugary sweetness with a splash of coffee. Like a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee when you ask them for it black, but they insist on filling the whole thing with sweetener and vanilla syrup. The fig & mandarin are barely there, somewhere faint, off in the background. A little bit of sugary pear seems to be the most dominant fruit in the opening (if any).Middle: After this settled for about 30 minutes to an hour, I started ... MoreI only have samples of Black Opium original & flankers, and I finally sprung for this one since I love fig and lighter fragrances. Jasmine is more dominant than orange blossom in these moments. It is still carried by a strong undercurrent of the original black opium DNA (sweet sugary vanilla coffee), yet it seems more muted so that these other notes can shine a bit. The jasmine here is likable and not too overpowering. Perhaps it is tempered a bit by the greenness of fig, although I don’t directly smell the fig note.Base: throughout the remainder of the day, this is pretty much the OG black opium with less projection. Like you took the original, and turned the volume down a notch. Side note: I know this has patchouli in the base, as do all the black opiums, and I can’t smell it in any of them (which I’m thankful for).Bottom line: Outside of comparisons to the original, this is a good standalone fragrance. Although, if you’re just an every-day fragrance person and already have the original, you don’t need to get this too.
