It's thin and light, and the bezel is very small. I always wanted and waited for an OLED monitor or TV. But I have a problem buying, with the blue LEDS losing intensity. I remember CRT color TV's had one color would fade before the others, and if you were lucky, you could increase that color to make it match. The OLED screen is beautiful, and now wish I got a bigger one. My biggest problem is finding the right mouse button so far, I'm not big on cellphones or smooth touch screens, I need to feel the separations. The Speaker sound is good, WIFI has been flawless. Sadly, I only use a laptop when I travel, maybe once a year now, for a month, so I didn't want to pay too much. I haven't tried the bluetooth yet, but I will. I wish it had 2 separate mouse buttons, and that's why the 4 stars. To the manufacturers, I wish when there are features that are not on certain models, it doesn't take much effort to remove those features from being shown on separate manuals. You think you have something, and you don't. One manual for each version, would help the consumer. I thought I could switch to the number keypad, until I couldn't. Wasted my time. Four versions, four manuals please.

Great first generation product
13 November 2023

First of all, its a first generation product that is really cool and really impressive! Having it as a netbook is very practical but being able to unfold it and use it with its 17" screen is unbelievable. lt is a first generation product that is expensive but I think that the prices and quality will improve in the future. The upsides are clear and don't need to be addressed. The downsides mostly come from the wireless keyboard which is there to reduce the bending angle of the screen. However, the keyboard makes the whole computer very chonky and fat. It reminds me of a late 90s laptop with how thick and heavy the whole thing is (not bad I guess for a 17" laptop but its unexpected because its so small). Also the keyboard has a separate on/off switch which can discharge the separate keyboard battery within a day or two if you forget to turn it off. The keyboard also has a flex in the middle when you type. If it would be possible to wirelessly charge the keyboard and have it better integrated with the laptop that would be cool.Otherwise, my individual laptop has some sound issues but I bought it like that. I'm unable to play sound through the speakers and headphones but the bluetooth works. Still trying to figure out what's going on there.

Great versatile value with occasional hiccups
31 August 2024

I originally purchased the Zenbook Duo 2024 because I wanted a device to help me develop software as well as occasionally taking pen input for writing math. I am pleased with the performance as a laptop as well as the port selection. I don't know how they managed to pack all of the features and it's so light. The desktop mode really comes in handy for programming on the go. The battery life is something you have to accept for the desktop mode. It does get a little warm but not uncomfortable due to the built in stand. It does lack a bit as a writing device. Pen input is okay, it has the occasional lag but I blame this more on windows than the device itself. Sometimes the laptop really struggles to smoothly switch from laptop mode to a writing device. I really hope ASUS keeps developing this line and hope ASUS develops an ARM version.

Moving from Macbook Pro 2015
1 July 2024

I decided to move my computing out of the Apple ecosphere and back to Windows. My computer uses are varied -- the most intensive demands being large spreadsheets, many web sites open at once, and design in Photoshop and Illustrator. After an impressive nine year run with a 14 inch Macbook Pro , I was expecting upgrades on all fronts. The Zenbook Pro 15 delivered all of that. The OLED display actually looked better, I doubled RAM from 8 Gb to 16 Gb, increased the SDD to 1 TB, and dramatically improved the processor. The Macbook was starting to choke launching the new Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, although it was still usable. No problem having many applications open on the new Zenbook Pro. I have had no problems with fan noise or overheating. The machine is cool ... MoreI decided to move my computing out of the Apple ecosphere and back to Windows. I have had no problems with fan noise or overheating. The machine is cool and quiet. The look and feel is modern and sleek, with a durable metal housing. Keyboard action is pleasurable. The physical number keypad is a welcome addition that is missing on Macs. (why? don't they expect Macbook users to do any accounting?) Ports are adequate with 2 old style USB ports and 2 more modern ones. There is only a micro-sd port -- I would have liked to see the standard size, and will have to pick up an adapter at some point. I thought I might use the flipbook functionality and the touch screen more, but I haven't yet... perhaps when I have more time. Seems like a great laptop and I am more than satisfied. I doubt that it will have a long run like the Macbook Pro -- that was exceptional -- but you never know. I would say the only downsides so far are -- the location of the power button is such that I always press it by accident and put the laptop into sleep mode if I move it around. Minor annoyance and more of a user issue. In bright sunlight the screen has a glare. But how many people use their laptop in bright sunlight, ever? The battery seems to be rapidly consumed vis a vis the Macbook Pro in its glory days, but those days are long gone. So far, a beautiful machine to use.

While I would have preferred a microSD slot, I'll take the SD card slot and just added an additional 1TB with an SDXC Sandisk for less than $140.Everything about this laptop screams premium build - the display and thin bezel, the webcam, the touchpad, the large lettering on the keys and the backlighting, the Wi-Fi 7 (!), the audio is actually very nice and if you use VLC and know how to adjust the equalizer for laptop speakers so that treble and bass are at the right levels, your music will end up sounding pretty dynamic. I'm actually enjoying the MyAsus system add-on with this laptop as its managing it very well, but not overbearing and intrusive.I have yet to find any flaw or real drawback to this laptop...design: A+, performance: A+, responsiveness: A+, stability: A+While I didn't have any application requirement for more than 32GB of RAM, I could see that this laptop may not satisfy every performance need, but if you just want to have more than 16GB to run Win11 Pro and most apps and browsers comfortably and don't wish to spend more than $2K, then this laptop or its 14" brother is a no-brainer!

Zenbook UX3405 - Great machine for my work

I needed a new laptop for work, so I went for the Intel-i9/32Gb/1Tb version of the Zenbook. The metallic case, lid styling and deep blue colour look great, and the laptop feels light. The matt surface looks like it won't show up fingerprints, but unfortunately it does ... a lot ...The OLED screen is brilliant - I'd forgotten what "black" looked like until I bought an OLED TV, now it feels the same with this laptop. I'll have to be careful about image retention (which the literature about OLED constantly warns about), but haven't seen any evidence of this as yet.The keyboard (with switchable back-lighting) feels good, but is a little bit too compact - many dual-purpose keys, and the key feels too small, but I guess I'll get used to that with time. I don't use a numeric keypad much, but on this laptop it's projected on to the mousepad when switched on.I couldn't justify the price increase for an NVidia graphics card, so as I'm not a gamer, I went for integrated graphics. Of course I'd forgotten that with this option, the Video memory is carved out of standard memory, so I was doubly glad I went for 32Gb rather than 16Gb.Ports are minimal - 2xUSB-C (but 1 needed for power), 1xUSB-A, however there is 1xHDMI and a mini-jack for audio. No SD-card reader, but I guess I can always add a hub to get more ports. It's early days, but on the whole I'm very happy with this purchase.

[Rewarded Review] Great launch, sleek without issues
5 October 2024

Immediately, I've had great impressions with the S14. It has great stand-by/sleep battery performance. Over the course of 20 hours, the battery only decreased by 1% from full charge. This is great as I'm constantly moving between classrooms or around my workplace, and now I can do so without worrying about shutting down the laptop down.During real world usage at 80% brightness, I had the S14 at 100% battery at 10AM and it decreased to 7% at 6PM, so a 93% decrease over 8 hours. During this period I was working heavily and switching through multiple Chrome tabs, programming in Android Studio, emulating Kali in VirtualBox, and participating in Zoom lectures. It has great stand-by/sleep battery performance. Over the course of 20 hours, the battery only decreased by 1% from full charge. During this period I was working heavily and switching through multiple Chrome tabs, programming in Android Studio, emulating Kali in VirtualBox, and participating in Zoom lectures. I was very impressed by the laptop holding up, generally I would need to find an outlet in the middle of the day.I am certain if it was a less hectic day, I could easily push around 12 hours usage under casual use. One helpful feature that Windows has been pushing with any device with an IR camera (S14) with presence sensing where the screen dims when you look away or locks itself when you step away helps reduce battery drain as well.As for the components, realistically the only upgradeable/replaceable parts would be the battery, the NVMe SSD (M2280), the fans, and the WiFi card. Everything else seems to be soldered down so 16GB DDR5 is all you'll be getting. Some further context about my stance on this laptop is in contrast to my experiences with the Zenbook S16 that I exchanged for this. I had issues with upgrading the storage from 1TB and driver issues where the WiFi adapter would not properly work after waking from sleep requiring a restart. Also I found the lid to stain very easy with the Scandinavian White, just sliding it in and out against my felt pocket in my backpack had black stains on the corners.Whereas the S14 took my 2TB 980 Pro upgrade without issue and I've yet to run into any driver issues with it. The S16 would fail to complete the drive upgrade no matter whether the data was cloned, installed from asus cloud reecovery, or clean installed (would BSOD). To be clear, this may have been patched for the S16 already, but right away the launch for the S14 has been far better without issue. The Intel Arc APU has decent performance, nothing great but good enough you would be able to play games. I found that Deadlock could be run ~55-70 FPS on low settings, Helldivers on steam deck graphics settings on performance rendering ~60 fps, and Cyberpunk ~29fps on low with xess on performance.Ultimately, I'm very happy with the S14. It's portable, has solid power, and its resolution is large enough that coding is not an issue despite being 14".

[Rewarded Review] Top tier battery life with excellent performance!

Excellent performance in such a thin and light laptop. This laptop is seriously light and very portable, but that doesn't mean small performance. This new Intel Lunar Lake chip packs 8 cores, a beefy iGPU that can actuallydo some light gaming and an NPU that meets requirements for the new AI PC in Windows. The 8 cores are 4P and 4E cores. Intel ditched the hyper threading on these cores to keep this chip super efficient. They did this by getting the IPC through the roof, meaning these 8 cores can keep up with laptops with much higher core counts. The new Intel iGPU is based on Intel's upcoming Battlemage architecture and o boy this thing is good. Whether you're watching an 8K video on YouTube or playing some of your favorite games, this iGPU handles it all really ... MoreExcellent performance in such a thin and light laptop. Whether you're watching an 8K video on YouTube or playing some of your favorite games, this iGPU handles it all really well. Even modern AAA titles are playable on this laptop with reduced settings or resolution. Older games can easily run at over 120fps, meaning you can max out that 120Hz OLED panel.Speaking of the panel, did I mention this thing is 3K 120Hz OLED? Whether you're just browsing the web or playing games, the screen is buttery smooth. You will notice this smoothness just scrolling on webpages or reading documents. It's fairly bright at 400nits, has great HDR support, and has adaptive sync! Yes this screen is 48-120Hz adaptive sync and provides a tear-free gaming experience.Speakers are above average, clear and loud, Dolby Support in the driver helps add a bit more. Very pleased. The keyboard feels great to type on and the backlighting gets very bright and each key is lit properly with the white light! The text on the keyboard is also big and easy to find your key quick.I tested the display port out feature over TB4, this laptop has 2x TB4. It had no issue running my 4K 240Hz OLED. Great to see this.Fan noise on this laptop is minimal even when running the fans at maximum speed for gaming (you can choose fan speed in Asus software) or nearly dead silent when doing light tasks. And finally battery life, WOW! This laptop has what feels like all day battery life. Insane for an x86 Intel laptop. They finally did it, it seems they now have class leading battery life.If you're in the market for a new laptop, this should be top of your list! If you're a student or business professional that wants a thin and mobile laptop with great performance and all day battery this is for you. Then when you want to wind down and do a bit of light gaming, it can do that too. Overall, just a great laptop that does well in all areas.
