I have two Devon Rex kittens. I fed them with expensive UK-branded kitten dry and wet food for several months, they enjoyed it and everything was great. But suddenly one of my kitten had a very soft poo (a bit of blood at the end), the other kitten had the same but also started vomiting and refused to eat and drink for over 24hr. I brought this kitten to the vet, she spent there for 4 days on a dropper as they couldn't find anything. My vet bill was 20k and they didn't find the reason. They only said to feed her with rice/boiled chicken and give her lots of antibiotics... The vet did tested my kitten's blood, they did do x-ray, they checked if she had pancreatitis, but nothing was found. Therefore my opinion is that it was because of previous kitten food. I immediately transferred my kittens to ZIWIPEAK and their stools started to be solid with no sings of blood. I didn't even do any slow-transitional period because I was scared to feed them with the food I used before... I was really nervous that my kittens would have constipation or vomiting or diarrhea as I didn't introduce new food properly (it was recommended to have at least 5 days transitional period), but everything was just brilliant. I gave them ZIWIPEAK wet food for 2 days , and I introduced air-dried food on the 3rd day. I did add a bit of cat-probiotic on top of their wet food just in case and everything worked really well. I'm so happy to see my kittens enjoying their new food and playing around, pooing solidly. Their poops are less smelly, and there are less of them. I do understand that I need less food to feed them with ZIWIPEAK, but it's still a bit too expensive for me as I have two pets, so I'm going to switch again to something else in couple of months, but if you can afford this food, I would strongly recommend it (ps kittens prefer wet version of this food) .

To take a long story and make it as short as possible, I have a male cat (now nearly 10) who almost died because of a crystal blockage when he was younger. He was put on a prescription dry food and I was told it'd be a huge risk taking him off - that he essentially needed to be on it for the rest of his life to "survive." Three years ago, I started doing research on cat foods [who would have thought it'd be important to read pet food labels like I do with my own?] and that's when I first heard the term 'species appropriate diet.' Cats in the wild eat all parts of their prey and they get much of their moisture intake from them as well. I read how detrimental dry food was and I began the slow, 1-2 month process of switching my cats over to wet food. After reading articles and advice from holistic veterinarians, I eventually weened my guy off the crap prescription food and onto healthier wet, dehydrated, and raw foods. This brand, this company, this is as good as it gets [without making your own of course]. I believe ZiwiPeak raises and kills animals in a humane manner. Yes, you pay more, but do you see what isn't on the label? Additives, fillers, meat-by-products, nothing is there that doesn't need to be. It's obvious ZiwiPeak uses more of the animal (lung, liver, heart, etc.), which not only provides your cat with greater meat/organ variety, but I know the animal that was killed is being used as much as possible and not wasted. My 10 year old guy and my 2 year old bengal love ZiwiPeak. I buy the Beef and Lamb flavors as the mixed protein options are more expensive. While my boys like both, I can tell they like the beef better. The quality is superb and it is worth every damn penny. *Edited to respond to a comment that I was unable to address below* It's unfortunate that someone would leave a comment to say my story is false. I'm not sure why anyone would make up a story about their cat almost dying, and then wholeheartedly recommend a food they (as the owner and cats) love. I love the quality and the product, and I believe I explained that well above. I'm certainly not against other high-quality foods - in fact, I have other brands I recommend if ZiwiPeak is too expensive. For example, I love recommending RadCats (raw food), Stella & Chewy (dehydrated), Primal (dehydrated), The Honest Kitchen (dehydrated, but only if you need to feed your cat a lot of calories), and for more affordable wet food options, Newman's Own, Castor & Pollux Organix, and Wellness.

Neither of my cats would even try the ZIWI food, and the older one would make the digging motions that she does alongside her bowl to let me know what she thinks should be done with that food. I brought it outside for the feral cats. Nearly always, they would go for the canned food first and come back later for the kibble. However, when presented with the ZIWI food, they went for the kibble and ate only a little of the ZIWI food. There are times when my cats will reject a food only to accept it on another day so, since I bought a case of this stuff, I tried it with them a few other times, and they wouldn't touch it. Noticing that the bowl that I put the KIWI food in outdoors would be empty by the next morning, I assumed that the cats were coming back for it later, so at least it wouldn't go to waste. However, when I put a camera out there, I found that raccoons were eating it. I gave a can of it to a friend who usually feeds store-brand cat food to her cat, but she told me that her cat wouldn't eat it either. Since I have a case of the stuff, I have continued to put it outdoors, yet the feral cats will take a few bites of it, which is more than my cats would do, but it was mostly raccoon food. I am giving it three stars because, oddly enough, the ingredients are great. I have little doubt that this would be a healthy choice for any cat that would eat it. Cats are individuals and ZIWI has been in existence for a while now, so I am sure that there are plenty of other cats who love the stuff. My experience, however, has not been good. I will also point out that there are other brands of perfectly good cat food that my cats won't touch, but this is the first time that I have come across something that the feral cats won't eat. Then again, I've been feeding them every morning for a few years now.

I can only imagine that New Zealanders pay half the price for this food (if that!), which is just another reason on a very long list of reasons I wish could move to Middle Earth. But I digress. This used to be the sole food that was tolerable to an IBD cat I had years ago. Back then the bone shards were scary large and I would pick them out, supplementing egg shell powder for the lost calcium source. No pet owner wants to go through that hassle, especially for the price, so I'm relieved to see that the pieces of bone are now small enough to be digested easily. Yes, they're supposed to be there. Why, you might ask. Because Ziwi Peak is one of the only cat food manufacturers that mimics a cat's natural diet via type of ingredients and ratios. You'd have to buy food from a supplier that specializes in raw food diets with the appropriate muscle meat/organ/bone ratio to get a better approximation of the ideal prey diet. House cats have the same GI system as tigers or lions, they haven't evolved the way dogs have. The closer you can get to a natural diet, the healthier they should be. So, anyway, I ended up with two more IBD cats with various food allergies and embarked on a whirlwind cat food adventure in the hopes of finding something that wouldn't cause any issues. Ziwi Peak was tried, cats wouldn't touch it, we moved on to other novel protein-based foods and, still, the vomiting continued. We tried the commercial raw foods in novel protein sources and, still, the vomiting continued. We got a prescription for a hypoallergenic commercial food and it was ok. Vomiting was limited, but the cats needed mega doses of probiotics/prebiotics and egg yolk powder to keep hairballs under control. Eventually the cats began vomiting up the prescription food and I found out that cross-contamination is a pretty big problem in the pet food industry. I started to wonder if the problem wasn't the protein source so much as *where* the food was manufactured. This is when I decided that we'd give Ziwi Peak another shot, but use it exclusively. The cats were less than thrilled with the abrupt change in diet, especially since the healthier food tends to not be as appetizing as the less nutritious chicken and fish in gravy type foods (I mean, come on. That's like saying, "Here, would you prefer this pizza for dinner or a grilled chicken breast and steamed vegetables?" to a person.) You've got to be sneaky with them when switching to a healthier diet. Mine go bonkers for freeze-dried duck liver treats and I decided to use this as an incentive to eat the Ziwi Peak by crushing the treats into a fine powder and sprinkling it over the food. I only had to do this for two days before they started digging into the the Ziwi Peak sans the extra motivation. The new diet hasn't been a miracle cure for my cat with severe IBD, though her condition has improved significantly. It's been far more successful for my cat with moderate IBD. I've been able to cut back on supplements and I'm seeing an all-around boost to their general health. I add a little water to the food and can tell they're no longer dehydrated since the water bowl is rarely touched. They used to drain it, plus 1/4 of another bowl, by the end of the day when they were mostly eating dry prescription food. That's not a good sign. Cats don't have a very strong thirst drive to begin with and chronic dehydration is a common cause of kidney problems later in life. If you change nothing else about their diet, please get your cats off of dry food if you can. It's the worst thing you can feed them. I guess I'll have to keep paying these ridiculous prices for food since it's the only thing that's made a noticeable difference in their health. I'm hoping to use it as a stepping stone to a non-commerical raw food diet. A natural diet in raw form is easiest on their digestion. It's a daunting prospect, but I think we're up for another cat food adventure.

Best Cat food I ever used

This brand of cat food is pricier than my normal one, but it is so much better. When you open the can it smells wonderful. Cat food usually an odd odor. I chose this as the recent report on premium brands, especially Purina has worried me as there a record number of pet deaths in the USA and Vets believe it is the food that the animals are eating. My brother's dog died at 3 years old from internal bleeding even though they always bought premium brands. Recent raids by the FDA have found metal, glass and other contaminents in Purina brand foods.

Excellent Choice for My Feline Friend

I've been using this cat food recently and my pet loves it. It's moisture-rich which is good for her hydration. The taste is highly palatable, she gobbles it up in no time. I appreciate that it contains real meat and is high in protein, perfect for her dietary needs. I'm also pleased that the ingredients are ethical and sustainable, it's good to know I'm supporting a responsible company. Lastly, it's optimized for both indoor and outdoor cats which is a bonus. Overall, thumbs up from us!

Excellent. My Cat Says This is His Favorite
10 February 2024

I have a senior cat who has had seizures for several years. We have been able to manage his seizures holistically with CBD oil and Chinese herbs until recently when seizures increased to multiple times a day. First thing my vet recommended was to add a prescription seizure medication and put my cat on a diet of venison and/or beef, so I ordered Ziwi Peak. My cat is eating this food better than anything he has ever been offered. Extremely pleased with his appetite enthusiasm AND his seizures have decreased significantly.

This is a good purchase because it's moisture-rich and packed with real meat for high protein. It's suitable for all life stages and breeds, which is convenient. However, it could use a wider variety of flavors to keep my cat interested. The size of the cans also could be bigger. The price is a bit on the steeper side, but for the quality, it seems worth it.

The best pet food ever! Please continue with high quality!

Ziwi is one of my favorite pet food brands because of the super high quality of ingredients. I swear that their food kept my senior dog with congested heart failure to live 2 years longer than prognosis. He was on heart medications that were very hard on his kidney due to diuretic nature of these medications and loss of precious metals and minerals for his body. Because Ziwi had many forms of organ meats that contained these metals and minerals, my dog's kidney level tests were within normal range for the whole time he was alive. My veterinarian was so surprised by the normal results for all of his semi-annual kidney tests. I now have a rescue cat who was not fed well during her first 2 years of her life. I have seen over the years, pet food that was owned by private owners sell out to big conglomerate and the quality going downhill for profits. I hope the pet food from Ziwi will not go down this similar path.
