I purchased my first 2 Akubras in Australia, the first one almost 30 years ago. Unfortunately I never worn them. So a few ago I found David Morgan on a website and visited them, and of course walked out with a Coober Peddy. There customer service and collect on hand is awesome. Honestly I didn't wear it that much either. Now that I'm almost 50 and sun protection for top of my head has become more of an issue. For some time now I have been chomping at the bit to get my hands on a Cattleman and finally did! It fits just as their YouTube video suggests and got their hat stretcher just in case it shrinks a bit. This is now my go to hat for everything. I'm an avid fly fisher and I know it will do me well on the water slinging flies. I am so impressed by it and can't ... They are truly a class act and I greatly appreciate them.I wish folks wore hats like this as much as they do down under.

This is a great hat. Well made and true to size. It handles water/rain very well and holds its size even after getting wet. Like all fur hats, this will shrink a bit if you leave it in the heat, but a had sizer returns it to normal in a moment.I know I shouldn't leave it in my car, but that's where it lives (hanging on the back of the seat), so it will shrink a bit, but like I said, quickly returns to normal.I'd love to see this hat available in the unlined version, like how they sell it in Australia, but I don't know if there's a market for it here.Anyway, great hat, good coverage, good sun protection and protection from fly line/hooks.

The Cattleman Hat is my second Akubra purchase, following the Banjo Patterson. Just like the Banjo, the quality of materials, construction, style and appearance are all top notch. The fit is true to size. The style provides a nice balance between casual and dress. The inner lining (can be ordered with or without) and edged brim add a touch of elegance. I am totally pleased with all aspects of this latest Akubra purchase as well as the service received from David Morgan. Without a doubt, I will remain an Akubra customer.

I wanted to exchange my cattleman hat for a smaller size. The problem was I recycled the packaging material before I decided to exchange it for a smaller size. I wanted to use the packaging from the new hat to pack up the old hat. I called customer service and talked to Linda, she knew what I wanted to do. She then transferred me to another gentleman who stated our store policy prevents us from doing this and thus wanted to charge me another $9 shipping to replace the hat. DM can say what they want but this is an exchange plain and simple. My understanding is exchanges are free. I was even willing to prepay for the hat and shipping. They could then credit me the cost of the shipping. However, due to the inflexibility of store personal and store "policy" DM has ... MoreI wanted to exchange my cattleman hat for a smaller size. This is my second Akruba Cattleman's hat. My first was a gift 20 years ago. I still have it. This Cattleman's will be my dress hat. It has formed to my head as good as my custom made hat at 1/4 the price. High quality at a good price for the Akubra Cattleman. I am between a 58 and 59. However, wearing the hat 1 day has formed to my head. Nor a strong wind or a fast horse, I will not lose my hat.
This is the perfect hat: it's not too formal, nottoo casual; it's a little cowboy but not too cowboy. And it's made of rabbit pelt, so it's all-weather, and they have too many rabbits down under, so let's help them out in style.A story from last weekend about the impression the Cattleman makes: I was visiting Tulsa and was walking around downtown. I had just passed a group of Jehovah's Witnesses, and while I was crossing the street a couple of ladies crossed my path on the sidewalk in front of me. They were perhaps early 60s and by their dress they could have been Sunday school teachers. They both looked at me, and one backed up to intercept my path and say something to me. I tensed up inside and thought, "Oh, no. She has an agenda. I already got Jesus; I don't ... MoreThis is the perfect hat: it's not too formal, nottoo casual; it's a little cowboy but not too cowboy. I tensed up inside and thought, "Oh, no. She has an agenda. I already got Jesus; I don't want to read The Watchtower; I don't want to hear about the latest MLM; ugh, here it comes, what is it?". But she looked me straight in the eyes and said in a low, serious voice, "I LOVE the hat...", while her friend a few steps away nodded in vigorous agreement. I don't remember her exact words after that, because I was laughing with relief and amusement- that was not what I was expecting her to say! So, you gotta keep excessive sun off your head, face and neck, and the drizzle off your glasses, and the Cattleman does it with far more eye-catching style than a baseball cap. The fact it isn't as fashionable makes it stand out more, in a good way. Do it!
Let me first just start out by saying that the shipping and receiving process from David Morgan was outstanding. Not only did my new Akubra Cattleman arrive perfectly intact, but the shipping took no time at all - I had my hat in hand in 6 days, from order to at my doorstep. As soon as I opened up the packaging, I knew I had made a wise choice in purchasing this hat. The quality of materials and craftsmanship is really superb. I requested from David Morgan (during the purchase process) to also install the Breakaway Chin Strap that I also bought, and it was installed perfectly - no fuss on my end to install, which was an added nicety. The hat fit is perfect - I wear a 7 1/8 in most hat sizes, so I fall somewhere between 57 and 58 on the metric hat sizing for this ... I opted for the 58 and it fit perfect, right out of the box. David Morgan included some foam inserts as well, but I have not needed them at all. The Bran color is even better in-person than I could have hoped for looking online. It really is a great "mid-point," between the darker Fawn and the lighter Sand colors - I am VERY happy with the color! The purpose of this hat for me was multifaceted - I needed a hat that was proven durable - one that can keep the intense sun rays off my head/face (here in Colorado we're at least a mile closer, if not more, to the sun than sea level) - and that was stylish to boot. I searched many options for weeks, even months, but always kept coming back to David Morgan and this hat. To be honest, I knew I was going to purchase this hat as soon as I saw it, but I was mostly skeptical about the color. Kept going back and forth between the Fawn and the Bran, but alas for me, the Bran was to be!Let me also say, this hat's main purpose is to accompany me on the Colorado waters as an angler's hat. I wanted more shade coverage than my boonie/baseball hats were giving me, but also something not flimsy or non-durable (for example, straw hats). I also wanted a hat that had a sense of style to it - and boy this one has gotten some nice compliments - more than any hat I've ever worn. Not expected but certainly appreciated! I've worn this hat a dozen times now on the water, in both scorching 95F heat, and so far down to 24F. The hat has never made me head feel hot (any more than I already was!), if anything I think it keeping the sun of my head/face/neck have immensely helped with the heat and I do find the hat very breathable. I have not removed the inside liner but that may be option one day - I just haven't seen a need for that yet. My hat ended up in the water once, with an errant gust of wind when my chin strap wasn't tightened down. Was able to rescue the hat easily, but it got dunked a bit. Not a worry at all, it dried out quickly being rabbit felt, and actually retained its shape perfectly. I can't wait to test the hat out in a true rain or snow, I think on what I've seen so far, it'll stand up to just about any weather that's thrown at it (barring a hurricane). I don't exaggerate here - this hat is like a good fishing buddy - indispensable! I will not leave home without it, and I don't consider myself ready to fish any longer until this hat is on my head. It's that good!I will also specify here, I do use a hat stretcher when I'm not wearing the hat, especially if I've been sweating and don't want it to shrink. In fairness, I haven't tested without the stretcher to see how well the hat retains it's sizing after a sweaty outing. I've heard about shrinkage being an issue, but with the hat stretcher it's never been an issue so I continue to follow this process to mitigate any potential shrinkage. This hat is (simply put) a joy to wear. I do look forward to wearing it. I happily recommend it to anyone, but especially other anglers that want something that doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel, just does it better. You won't get any odd looks with this hat either - it just looks like it belongs. Form and function can co-exist on the river, and this is the answer. Do not hesitate to purchase one for yourself, you will not be disappointed!
This is a durable and practical workhorse of a hat which also looks sharp enough to wear almost anywhere. The brim is protective against the sun and rain without blocking your view. Akubra's leather sweatbands are by far the most comfortable I've worn. The first thing I do upon receiving one is carefully remove the liner; for me this improves the breathability and makes it nicer to handle and wear overall. The crown gives this hat a strong, utilitarian appearance without being a statement piece. It is a nice break from the generic cowboy hats that are common where I live. I like neutral shades for a hat and the grey looks good with everything, especially in winter. I also have one in sand for warmer months and it stays noticeably cooler under the hot sun. I love ... The Akubra Cattleman came packaged very well, with no chance of getting damaged. It shipped faster than expected, especially from across the country. The fit was spot on and the included foam pads were a nice touch, but I didn't need them. This hat replaced a Henschel Walker leather hat which I wore for a few years, but I couldn't get the stench out of it. This is my first Akubra hat and now I understand all the hype. It is extremely well made and lightweight. It fit a bit snug at first, but formed to my head within a few days. I expect it to last for years and based on all the great reviews, I'm sure it will. Because it's such a nice hat, I was apprehensive about wearing it in the woods where I spend a lot of my time, but that's what it's made for. This is ... I purchased this hat knowing the crown was a bit too blocky for my taste. Once I wore it for a week and knew it was a comfortable fit, I steamed the crown over a teakettle and reshaped it to a narrower tear drop/pinch with more taper. I've owned Stetson's before. This is my first Akubra. I find the Akubra to be a far better value than the Stetson's I've owned. Intend to buy another in upcoming months. David Morgan hats were easy to deal with. I highly recommend them.
