Affordable B550 Motherboard with tons of great specs!

"This review for ASRock review rebate program." I researched a lot of MB for my son first gaming PC and this one packs with a lot of features for amount we wanted to spend. So far, no issue related to board in first week. Only issue I encounter was I used wrong slots for my two RAM modules. After reviewing the manual and corrected, it booted up nicely. Oh, the only thing I want to complaint about ASRock is you should consider providing drivers/utilities in USB drive rather than optical disk. In 2020, no PC builders will buy CD/DVD drive. The cost of USB drive is pretty cheap these days. May be a few cents more than disk.

Bluetooth and wifi problems

I installed the mobo and everything worked beautifully for a few hours, then the onboard wifi started disconnecting after a while of no activity. Weird and frustrating, but a reboot usually fixed it. Then the bluetooth cut out entirely, about 6 hours after installation. Gone. Reboots didn't fix it, didn't find any bios setting to fix it. The solution was to shut down, unplug the machine, and hold down the power button for 30 seconds to clear out any remaining power, then turn everything back on. This brought back my bluetooth, but I'm pretty frustrated to run into such a board breaking problem right out of the gate. Makes me wonder what other nasty little surprises this board holds in store.

This is my 3rd ASRock motherboard. Everything worked great with no setup needed. Windows recognized everything, and I didn't need to reinstall. I DO want to reinstall now with my new Samsung 970 EVO. When I formatted the EVO it asked if I want to use GPT or MBR. This is where my nightmare begins. I remember ASRock not having options others have in various tutorials, and I should have switched to another brand this time. I'm am still looking for a way for this to work, but IF I fix it...it should not be this hard. If anyone knows and answer, I'm all ears.

Can't POST, ASRock says BIOS can't be updated
7 May 2022

I bought a full upgrade set: this ASRock board, Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, G.Skill 2x8 DDR4 3200 RAM, and a Samsung EVO SSD; using existing high-end case, PSU, cables, etc. Powered up and it won't POST, LEDs say it's the CPU and RAM. I verified with ASRock that both CPU and RAM are on their approved list. I emailed back-n-forth with ASRock and they said that because it can't even POST, I can't flash a new BIOS and my only option is to return the board or put in an old CPU that the board's older BIOS will recognize JUST in order to flash a new BIOS. Never had this problem with MSI boards, they are able to flash a new BIOS even with an unrecognizable CPU (due to it being so new that the BIOS can't recognize it). Didn't work
6 May 2021

As much as I tried I was not able to get this motherboard to work. Got a couple of crashes as I was installing Windows and afterwards my computer would just randomly restart after a while. Tried with different PSUs, different RAM, different GPUs. Had to return it.

So far so good
5 April 2022

So far I am enjoying the added speed of my gpu with the pcie 4 slot. They need to include which slots to install ram into for the best speeds. I started out using b1 and b2 but moved to a2 b2 and it seems to be doing better in that slot. It at least reads the proper speed now. My cpu cooler hits the ram in a1 so I cannot use that slot. I do wish there was another usb spot on the mobo for plugging in my pci wifi. Although with the built in wifi I actually didn't need it anymore. I have noticed I still have crashing problems with my ryzen 5 3600xt / rx 5600 xt set up. I can't tell if it is mobo related or temp or software issues. Other than that it's a great board for the price and I see myself using it for a while to come.

Sweetspot
6 August 2020

Decided to rebuild my 8 year old rig, during which time I didn't exactly stay up to speed on all the advancements made. I had to educate myself on M.2 form factors and this new supplementary 4 pin for the PSU was a bit of a foreign surprise to me when I unboxed this MB (my own fault). Due to that shortcoming in my research, I, uh, shorted my PSU and this MB survived completely in tact (whether that was due to PSU fail-safes or the MB construction itself, who is to say, but thank goodness). If your PSU does not have an extra 4-pin CPU power plug, rest assured: it is optional and only really required in the event of extreme overclocking. For the price, I really don't think you can beat this one.

This review for ASRock review rebate program
12 August 2020

This review for ASRock review rebate program This will be my second ASRock board. My first was the p67 performance Fatal1ty which is still running strong today. This board is hard to match for the price. I really enjoyed building on it and getting everything going. It has an expansive feature set due to the B550 chipset onboard. My wife is loving this build and it didn't take much to get it going! My absolute biggest gripe is polychrome sync. I use iCue in my main build so this was very underwhelming. I am unable to even get a proper standard rainbow on polychrome. I went back to my very basic CM Masterplus+ argb controller until the software is better.

This review for ASRock review rebate program. Best value B550 board to date!
14 August 2020

On a tight budget, I was surprised to find this newly released B550 format in the lower price range (where B550's are supposed to be). Given the features and ASRock brand, I gave it a shot and paired with a Ryzen 3600 and Asrock 5500XT Phantom Gaming card. The results was shocking when I'm able run most AAA games in high settings 80+ FPS 1080p. Not worth spending more $ on better components if I can game in 1080p on decent settings. Good value board! Thanks ASRock!

Worst Experience to Date with a Motherboard
13 September 2020

I have built many PCs over the years. This build, thabks to this motherboard was just terrible. After building a brand new PC from parts purchased here I had random crashing. I put countless hours into troubleshooting everything from Bios, Software, Operating System, Memory, Hardware, etc. Newegg had no way to help me in anyway just saying, "Let us know when you figure it out for a replacement." I spent weeks of frustrating hours trying to figure this out. Finally asrock said that it may be a bad controller in the MB after I had exhausted pretty much every other possibility. A new MB resolved the issue. I have probably 30 hours into troubleshooting. Then driving around to return a MB and of course rebuilding it almost completely with the replacement MB.
