I have decided to upgrade the internals of my old desktop PC. I needed a quality B550 ATX motherboard that didn't break the bank. So, I went with the MSI B550 Gaming Plus.I purchased and picked up the motherboard from Best Buy, and brought it home. No damage was found on the board itself or the additional parts that were included. I installed a Ryzen 3600, Cooler Master Hyper 220 EVO Black, 2 stick of 8gb DDR4 3200mhz Corsair RAM, Gigabyte GTX 1060 Mini OC, and a Samsung 970 EVO 500gb NVME SSD to the build. I haven't done much with overclocking other than running my RAM at 3200mhz. I am yet to manually overclock my CPU and GPU, but I have no need as of late.Overall, I have not encountered any hardware or software issues specifically related to the motherboard itself. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

But the fact that it looks so great and works fine now makes a bit up for that

I purchased this board as an upgrade for my B450 board with a Ryzen 5 2600, and paired it with a R5 3600. The board presents an excellent value proposition for future upgrades, with what I believe to be the highlight, the excellent VRMs with their cooling. Unlike many boards, the heatsinks are quite practical and will actually cool the VRMs, which should allow it to quite easily support CPUs up to a 3900X or better with no performance loss due to insufficient processor power supply. The VRMs are 5-phase with doublers for 10 phase power, a big step up over the B450 motherboards aimed at a similar segment resulting in a more stable system especially when overclocked. The board itself has the same layout and components as the slightly cheaper MSI B550-A Pro, however ... MoreI purchased this board as an upgrade for my B450 board with a Ryzen 5 2600, and paired it with a R5 3600. The integrated IO shield with its black finish is a nice bonus which I didn't expect at this price point, but it certainly results in a cleaner aesthetic over traditional bare metal ones. (And harder to lose!)Regarding rear IO, it has lots of USB ports (8), a detailed list of each port's speed can be found in the specification on MSI's site. It also has the ability to flash a new BIOS from a USB stick without a CPU, which while not so useful now, may become very useful when Ryzen 4000 processors come out requiring a new BIOS. Finally the audio outputs and inputs are quite extensive, with the usual Line-in, Line-out, and a Mic port as well as 2 more specialist connections and an optical output. On the actual board there are at least 5 fan headers which is nice to see, certainly more than enough for any person and there are 6 SATA connectors on the right side of the board facing to the side so none are obscured by a large GPU. There are 2 M.2 slots with one featuring support for both NVMe with PCIe 4.0 and SATA SSDs with a stylish heatspreader to fit on and the other only supporting NVMe with PCIe 3.0. There is an RGB header near the top of the board as well for use with MSI's RGB software if desired.

This board is a updated MSI Pro B550 board, with RGB installed on the southbridge and a built in I/O Shield. The heatsinks are similar but are styled slightly differently while offering the overall same design. The RGB on southbridge is minimal but still good, offering little lights around the perimeter and can change to the colors you want. Though this style is not as good as a ring and doesn't diffuse as well as some higher end options, I still like the implementation offered here. My system consists of: -Ryzen 5 3600 -32gb (4x8gb) Klevv Cras Ram. -2x1Tb NVME drives -4TB HDD -360mm AIO from Coolermaster. (Received for free to review elsewhere and I am using Sycthe Wondersnail fans instead of the cooler master ones now.) -MSI RX5600xt Gaming X -MSI B550 Gaming ... MoreThis board is a updated MSI Pro B550 board, with RGB installed on the southbridge and a built in I/O Shield. This review is more about Best Buy than the actual item. Can't really review it since I got a bad one. Got this motherboard since there were a lot of good reviews online for this particular model. I got this shipped to the house and the first thing that I noticed was that it wasn't sealed. Started setting it up and realized that something was wrong with it. Wouldn't post after trying two known serviceable CPUs. Only time it would show some kind of activity was when the only thing plugged in was the memory. I believe this was a return because something was wrong with it but Best Buy just sold it again.
Had an issue with my Gigabyte x570 Elite where suddenly I couldn't boot into Windows without bluescreening. Even after a wipe and reinstall, it kept boot looping. I thought it was the drive, but it ended up being the motherboard. I bought this MSI B550 Gaming Plus and had no issues. The manual could have been a little clearer on memory configuration, but other than that it was a breeze to set up. I also would have preferred to have more 3 pin RGB headers available towards the top and side. The features on the board are plentiful, there are more than enough SATA slots and I can use both my NVME drives at full speed. I would have enjoyed having a third NVME drive slot, but it's a gamer-grade board, so I didn't expect much.
Awesome board. Attached heat shield makes u stall easier. RGB fully supported. Plenty of memory expansion. Good overclock features. Usb-c header is a good addition. Flash BIOS a must for newer processors if you don’t have an older processor to use. Two m2 slots are also great for gaming. If you want AM4/DDR4 board this is cost effective. Good looking board. Speeds are great although I have not tried faster m2 slot yet.
I don’t think you can ask for much more out of this board for the price. It might not be the best board out there but what you get for what you pay is a lot.It has many of the same features as the MSI MPG X570 and actually looks very similar. You get the same supported memory speed of 4400 MHz, M.2 gen 4x4 and PCI-E 4x16. You get a lot of fan headers. I think there my be one more than an X570 or at least as many. What you are lacking from the MSI MPG X570 (WiFi version) is Bluetooth, built in WiFi, a second PCI-E 4x16, one less PCI-E 3.0x1 slot and a few less USB 3.2 ports. I think the overclocking capability is less because the X570 has an additional 4 plug power connector on the board and this does not.Once you get used to the BIOS configuration or MSI it’s ... MoreI don’t think you can ask for much more out of this board for the price. So all in all if you can do without the features this board is lacking compared to the X570 this B550 is great. If not spend a little more and upgrade. This is my second MSI motherboard and I’m happy with both. No problems, they both booted up on first start with no issues. The manual that comes with the board is very detailed and helps with installation. You just get the board, manuals, a software installation cd (most likely not needed) and a couple of sata cables in the box so make sure you get whatever else you need to install.
Purchased this as a replacement for another system that I let the smoke out of. Very impressed with the quality. I did have to do a significant amount of research first as this board incorporates a lot of new technology. My advice to anyone doing a new installation is to start with a barebones install until you get the OS installed. then add your peripherals one at a time. This MBD incorporates self-diagnostics at boot, if it senses something that it doesn't like it will lock itself down until the fault is cleared. My new install could conceivably have been complete in an hour, but in a hast and rush trying to do it all at once turned this venture into a 3 hour ordeal. It turned out that one of my add in expansion cards had a fault causing the system not to boot.
