I love that I can use this butter for emergency preparedness, which is why I purchased this butter powder. In testing the product, I discovered that it does not melt! It cooks instead and looks like fried cheese curds on the pan. We wanted to cook scrambled eggs in melted butter. You can not use this product for melting or sauteing in. However, it will be valuable in a real emergency and gives me comfort for this reason. Will need to be used differently than I anticipated. Very spreadable, but grainy texture. My husband didn't mind it and said it tastes and works better than he expected it to (spread on toast).

Worse, they shipped the two replacements together, but I needed to send them in individually, so I didn't have appropriate sized boxes. I considered putting them in one box, but I did that once in the past and only got credit for the item who's label I used, so I don't trust returning that way anymore. Thus I had to use my own boxes, and since I had to use larger boxes, I also had to use my own packing materials. I'd like to say I won't order again, but you can't really beat the price, which is the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1. VERY UNHAPPY with the whole process. It's just poor form to send items INTENDED FOR LONG TERM STORAGE/ PREPPERS/ ETC.... with DAMAGED cans!!! :-(

It is a very fine, nearly white powder that smells like powdered milk for the most part with a strange twist. (a little chemical kind of). It does not taste like butter to me and a bit nauseating to eat more than three pieces of buttered toast. The powder taste lingers in the mouth for a while, even after rinsing the mouth out. I have not used it for cooking or as an ingredient in baking. I would recommend Ghee for long term storage of a butter product. It will cost more than the powder but worth it. Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Swad-16-Oz-Ghee-12-Pk/17770471You can also make Ghee yourself by melting butter in a glass bowl placed in very warm water, Do Not stir it, skim off the solids that are on the top. I bought this to use for a spreading butter. Opened, made according to directions, put in fridge, took out to put on a baked potato. This stuff was so foul smelling and nasty tasting that I had to throw out the potato. Now I was raised on a dairy farm and I know what real homemade butter should taste like. Wasn't expecting it to be prefect. But this is just so bad I would never buy again, since I will be throwing out the rest of this product.
The butter powder is great. You can use it in anything. It is handy, does not need to be refrigerated and the taste will be what you expect. I intend to buy this again. You will not be disappointed. Purchase it now to prepare for you and your family.
Used to buy from Augason farms in their pantry cans (still have a few), with the instruction it is nowhere near butter!Tried mixing in a bit of coconut oil and guess what, it is passable to where I would put on toast if there was no other choice. :)FYI, I am a bit of a snob and would never use margarine
It is Salty and like a cream cheese spread but tastey and have added on cooked pasta and it made it like Alfredo tasting. You must mix with cold wayer in plastic container and chill in frig I have put it on English muffins and it taste like salty cream cheese a little. As I am experimenting for the first time Im feeling like this powdered butter mixwoukd work well with baking cookies etc but also make good gravies and sauces especially Alfredo Sauce.
Can't say what it taste like because I bought it for emergency storage. Reviews said it taste great and is the best they ever had. All I do know is it came as described, a Can equals after mixed 25.5 store bought sticks of butter according to the quantity information on the Can. A half of cup equals (8) Tablespoons which you mix with 1 and 1/2 Tablespoons of water to make a stick of butter. The storage life is 10 years from date on bottom of Can with use time of (1) year from time of opening. It has a easy to use plastic lid for after opening and a place on the can to write in the opening date. The good thing is it doesn't say anything about having to be refrigerated after opening. Hope this helps with your decision to purchase.
Not sure what retailer these items were shipped from; but cans were heavily dented in several places; like dents of 2" long and 1/'2 inch deep. Shame on retailer for selling and shipping heavily damaged goods.
Having to be on a restricted diet makes finding substitutes for fatty items a real chore. So I got this product thinking it'll be like a butter powder you see on the grocery shelves.Nope! This is REAL butter powder, and not only does it taste and smell like it ... it doesn't have the fat, either. So now can add a couple of teaspoons of this powder on potatoes, corn and mix it into jellies to give it that real butter taste and aroma.Bought a small bottle of cooking oil thinking it was needed, but haven't opened it yet. The ease of adding it as a powder on anything you heat up -- and without oodles of salt to cover up the flavor -- this butter powder tastes 10x better than any butter popcorn, too.Absolutely delicious.
