Having never owned a "proper" grinder capable of grinding for espresso I'm generally pleased with the Sette 30, which I use both for espresso with my Rancilio Silvia and for drip coffee with my OXO Barista Brain. I understand this is essentially an "entry level" grinder and have set my expectations accordingly. The design seems decent enough and I like the open/close lever on the hopper to be able to swap out for decaf beans. The only issue there is you'll obviously need to get the coffee already in the grinder out if you don't want to have a tiny bit of a blend, but the adjustment assembly is quick enough to remove and make this happen. The hopper does feel a bit cheap and I'm a bit worried about breaking it but I tend not to remove it that often so I doubt it will ...Β MoreHaving never owned a "proper" grinder capable of grinding for espresso I'm generally pleased with the Sette 30, which I use both for espresso with my Rancilio Silvia and for drip coffee with my OXO Barista Brain. The hopper does feel a bit cheap and I'm a bit worried about breaking it but I tend not to remove it that often so I doubt it will be an issue for me.The timer is very useful and I have found as long as the hopper is well loaded that the amount of coffee being ground is rather consistent with the timer. At a setting of 25 I usually need about 2 seconds per cup of drip coffee I want to brew and even over 10 seconds, for 5 cups, the output does not vary by a lot.For espresso, at least when paired with the Silvia, is where I have to deduct the 5th star. For starters, the suggested settings for espresso (7-10) were far too fine for the Silvia and resulted in zero coffee flow. Also, I found that 14 was too coarse and resulted in a rather sour pull, but 13 resulted in a bit of an overextraction, although this seems to have been somewhat remedied by getting a distributor tool. I have also ordered the Sette 270 adjustment assembly which (apparently) fits perfectly on the Sette 30 and am hoping that will give me the extra precision I'm looking for.I know others have mentioned it's a bit loud but frankly it seems about right for a coffee grinder. Also, it does make a bit of a mess due to grinder static but I make a mess with my espresso machine too so it doesn't really bother me. πIn general, quite satisfied with it, and hoping the 270 adjustment assembly takes it up that extra notch. As a note (this does not factor into my overall review) the first one I picked up was dead out of the box, as the timer would count down but the motor would not turn at all. The iDrinkCoffee staff took care of me quickly with no issue and tested the replacement in store just to be sure.

I purchased this to upgrade from my Hario Skerton, as I was looking for both an electric grinder and was planning on getting into espresso while also continuing to brew pour overs. While some have complained that the Sette 30 is not especially good at either, I found that with a little dialing in and the S2 burr, I was getting the best results from my V60 pour overs that I had ever produced. Grind adjustment was simple, quick and easy. With my initial forays into espresso with the Flair, I'm quickly getting into the right ballpark for my grind size, and producing very good espresso. The swappable burrs are a great feature, as is the ability to upgrade to the 270 grind adjustment ring if I feel that I need that level of control further down the line.My one complaint ...Β MoreI purchased this to upgrade from my Hario Skerton, as I was looking for both an electric grinder and was planning on getting into espresso while also continuing to brew pour overs. Otherwise I am very happy with this machine for the money.

Fast delivery and unit showed up well packed and in perfect condition . Easy assembly and had up and running in 5 minutes.Good fluffy grind at a setting of 9 and produces a nice 2 ounce shot in 27 seconds on my DeLonghi Dedica with a bottomless portafilter with nice crema. The machine is super loud though I measured 91 dbA at one foot distance but grinds very fast so only on for 12 seconds - I weigh out my whole beans and only grind this amount at a time so don't really use the timer function on the machine. Grinder is very tall and doesn't fit under my cupboard like the old Baratza Encore did. I enquired of Baratza about the single dose hopper to reduce the grinder's height but they said it doesn't fit this model. As a further comment the grinder's box does not ...Β MoreFast delivery and unit showed up well packed and in perfect condition . There is also no mention of using the alternative BG burrs when using the machine to produce coarser/ non-espresso grinds. There are some online reviews where they discuss these possible modifications. All in all I'm pleased with my purchase of this grinder and my espresso game has been stepped up a notch for sure!

Don't know if it's the beans I use but the grinder keeps much of the ground coffee in the "chute" which resulted in a wide range of the ground sizes as the clogging builds up.Before I noticed the accumulation, to avoid the choking of my espresso machine (with pressurized portafilter older), I had to move the setting from 13 to 15-19, far from the Baratza recommended starting point which is 9. Thanks to the easy removal of the adjustment set, cleaning is really a fast and easy task and should be done regularly. I will try other bean roasts (less dark)......The plastic adjustment set of the 30 creates a lot of static electricity that makes the ground beans flies around. I've been very pleased with my Sette 30 for a few years. Noisy but very fast and excellent grind quality, but the motor's gears stripped. WholeLatteLove referred me to Baratza service (hey, revise their hours in your listing!) and they responded not only immediately, but heroically. They diagnosed by email/movie and sent me a new motor right away, no cost. The precision is overkill: timing to a hundredth of a second in ridiculous; half seconds would be fine enough. The shims they supply for the grinder will give you a grind finer than you can use The adjustment increments are much finer, again, than you could every need. The Sette's simple convenience in being able to adjust granule size and timing (quantity really) is more important than presets or micro-adjustment, allowing for constant tuning for variations in beans, environmental factors, how much is in the hopper and, most importantly personal preferences.I was happy with the machine. After that Rambo-level service, however, they've got a customer for life.
Grinds nicely. It's true what they say about it being noisy. It is a very loud grinder, but at least it grinds very quickly. So far my biggest beef with this grinder is the mess. I'm running into issues with static, which causes the grinds to crawl around and up the outside of the chute, and ultimately fling off around the sides of the grinder. I am aware of the technique of misting the beans to help with static, and it does help, but having to mist the beans right before you grind is a pain.I'm sure some would argue that this is a problem with other grinders as well, and that I should be dosing the beans for each shot, but that doesn't interest me. I want to fill the hopper and grind those beans without having the clean grinds up from all over the place. As far as ...Β MoreGrinds nicely. It's true what they say about it being noisy. I want to fill the hopper and grind those beans without having the clean grinds up from all over the place. As far as I'm concerned that is why it has a hopper to hold beans.I'm guessing static might dissipate from a different grinder where the coffee slides down the chute, but that's a guess. I've also read that using a lighter roast might cause less static as well. I'll give that a try. But bottom line is I want to grind whatever beans I want and not have extra clean up. I'm not finding that with this grinder so far.
I must say I wanted to love this machine. but I will say that I like the machine. Baratza customer support is awesome I will tell you that right off the bat. the grinder works well but it was a little messy. it died in less than 6 months. Baratza customer support did send me a brand new one to replace it. I checked it out to make sure it works and it sure does. I then put it back in the box and stored it away. man on YouTube recommended this machine and said it would last for years. well the first one lasted less than 500 grinds. if I use it once a week at my last me 10 years. My cheap mr. coffee grinder has lasted me over 20 years and I paid less than 20.
I've had this grinder for about 15 months. Here are the cons.1. Noisy. Yes it is very very loud.2. It is super messy. Unless you are only moistening the coffee you are planning to grind immediately, there is a great deal of static generated. This static will fling the coffee out in all directions, and the grinds crawl and cling around the chute. This is my biggest beef with this grinder. It has a hopper to store beans, but you can't moisten the beans if you store them in the hopper. So why have a hopper if using it just creates more of an inconvenient mess all over the counter?I have my machine in a space between other appliances, so having coffee grind flung everywhere is a real pain. The motor wouldn't work, even though the count down display still worked.Fortunately Baratza has great customer service and just sent me a replacement grinder. Because its new though, it does fling extra coffee around though. I think the build of of oils help reduce static, but the old one was still messy too before it died.
We use this for our pourover and drip coffee, decaf and regular. At the lower settings is is perfect, so it isn't just for espresso. I like how fast whips through a serving of beans, and also how the adjustable arms can hold the pourover carafe so there doesn't need to be an intermediate container. It also has not problems with very light roasts, where the beans can be denser and harder. 25g of beans takes less than 10 seconds! Is it overkill for the coarser grinds required by drip, pourover, and press coffee? Perhaps. But it's a perfect machine and a great addition to any serious coffee setup.
Superb grinder for my needs. After much research, I'm convinced I made the right choices with the Baratza brand, Sette model series and IDrinkCoffee as the vendor. I love that Baratza parts allow me to extend the life of the grinder and appreciate their sustainability ecosystem. As such, I plan to upgrade to the 270 ring which I will use with my current AP burrs. I will also buy a set of BG burrs which I will install on my 30 ring for my pour-over, French press and drip requirements with a quick swap out. I like the Sette's styling and the noise level is not at all bad. Regarding the purchase: It has been a delight to buy from IDC.
