Not to mention: there is near zero retention. Amazing! The question is begged: why only 4 stars and not 5. . . ?Static. Some beans and days are better than others, but the Bodum and OXO have shown themselves to be superior in this respect. It may be the dry winter, and/or our humidifier requires some attention, but these three grinders are playing on an even field--and the static problem is most pronounced with the Virtuoso+.Although our humidifier is functioning, I will be servicing it for optimal performance. If after servicing it the Virtuoso+ produces less static, I'll report back.In spite of the static, the Virtuoso+ has proven itself more capable than I would have thought--and, as such, highly recommend.

Whole Latte Love did an awesome job in processing and shipping this item in a timely manner. Arrived very well packaged and on time, which was very much appreciated.Unfortunately, I'm a little underwhelmed by this grinder -- I expected a bit more. It works fine and grinds consistently, so that's the good news. No probems with the quality of coffee. But there are several quirky things that I find extemely annoying... the first is that the hopper lid vibrates off constantly, it doesn't actually snap in place like my previous grinder, the lid on the Virtuoso+ just sits on top. Never in a million years could I have predicted how annoying that would be to me. The second annoyance is the bin design, it fits tightly, which is good, except that when removed after grinding, there is chaff and grinds that are dislodged and fall into the tray beneath the bin. This results in a gritty feeling of sliding the bin back into the grinder, meaning that you must clean the grinder where the bin tray is each time it's removed (or at least I do because I am find that grittiness makes it difficult to insert and remove the bin and it's just another annoyance). Generally a very messy grinder, again, my last grinder was much cleaner (something I took for granted, I guess).I didn't consider returning the grinder for these (somewhat) minor issues, but it does make me hesitate to buy a Baratza grinder in the future.

Overall I'm thrilled with this grinder. Once it was setup it was easy to use and provides me with a wonderfully consisistent grind. It is easy to adjust the grind level/size, the timer function is great and it has been a joy to use in the early morning (and at other times... but especially in the mornings!!).I have two minor quibbles. The first is that the setup instructions were a bit vague. There is a part in the grinder that was detached when I received it. However, there was no indication in the setup instructions that indicated the part needed to be "clicked together" before setting up the grinder. This resulted in what I call the "Coffee Beans Everywhere and a Bean Hopper Tumbling to the Floor" effect. Static is causing some of the ground coffee to stick to the edge of the canister and that results in a messy countertop (plus I do lose more coffee using this grinder compared to my Porlex hand grinder).Overall hugely satisfied. Just a few quibbles.

I was so excited to purchase this grinder! When I first received it, I thought it'd be difficult to put together but it was actually quite easy! Followed the instructions: first wash with warm soapy water and let air dry fully, then follow the step by step guide for assembly (there is a picture of the full grinder with parts) and voila! You got yourself a grinder. Its a bit loud but it does the job quickly so that whirring doesn't last too long! Also love that there's a little light that turns on when you're ready to use the machine. One easy button/knob, and a lovely guide for recommended grind sizes. So happy with this purchase.
My existing coffee supplier started using a delivery service that requested tips.My new supplier, a coffee evangelist, roasts after you order. So I needed to move to a way to grind small amounts of coffee to get the most out of it.James Hoffmann recommended this one when his favourite Norwegian brand wasn't available even though it is slightly more expensive and louder. The Norwegian brand wasn't available. What more can I say other than it takes .5 of a second to deliver the precise amount of coffee I use for one cup which is good. The wife thinks it quieter than my old one but feels it could be quieter.I rarely rate things 5 stars by the way.
Bought after watching MANY reviews of comparable models to replace my Breville Smart Grinder, which lasted about eight years before it shook itself into nonfunctionality. Have only had the Baratza for six months or so, but it's faster and quieter than the Breville ever was, and seems to my [amateur] eye to deliver a very consistent grind as well as being a slightly better fit under the cabinets. It would be nice if the grounds receptacle were tempered glass or some other static-reducing material to help prevent the floofing of chaff around the counter, but that's hardly a unique flaw. Also, would love to see the main plastic housing on the body literally ANYTHING but the ubiquitous black -- matte charcoal? Pewter? Spruce green? Vintage aqua? Anyway, a solid little beast so far, and everything I've heard about Baratza re: length of service and ease of repair makes me pretty confident she'll be around for a long time.
I purchased this as a replacement to the Baratza Encore and since they stopped making the Presico (my favorite), I was told this was it's replacement. The Presico has a great motor and relatively quiet for a $350 grinder. This Virtuoso+ is as loud as the Encore and grinds the same. It's NO Presico!! If you drink the same amount of coffee every time the digital display on the Virtuoso is going to be great for you. However, if you are like me and grind different quantities all the time the digital display is about as useful as a gas tank on a Tesla. WORTHLESS, because it's a hassle to change the display settings. The old analog knob was SO MUCH quicker and easier with both the Encore and Presico. The Virtuoso must have been a 1st year engineering student's project. ... MoreI purchased this as a replacement to the Baratza Encore and since they stopped making the Presico (my favorite), I was told this was it's replacement. The grinder is quieter than other grinders I have used in the past, which is nice. It is not as effective with static as other grinders, such as the Ode 2, but overall it is acceptable and not too messy. The top basket tends to wobble a little during grinding, but seems to be normal operation. The grind consistency is really great for a 40mm conical burr set and the timer is a nice feature. Overall, I am happy with the purchase and coffee quality has improved vs prior grinder. Baratza is known for their customer service, and you can find mods too (like single dose hoppers, bellows, etc).
I've been using this grinder for a couple of months now and it has been working great and exactly as expected based on my extensive research. I was looking for a high quality easy-to-use grinder that is primarily used for grinding coffee that is used for pots of drip coffee. My coffee tastes considerably better since switching to this grinder. This grinder produces a consistent grind, with a decent range of grind settings for my non-afficionado uses, and has easy to use settings that make it a very simple process to make a pot of coffee in the morning. As those who do enough research will know, the grinder is not the ideal choice for those interested in brewing espresso shots, but it certainly could be used in a pinch.I haven't been using the machine long enough ... MoreI've been using this grinder for a couple of months now and it has been working great and exactly as expected based on my extensive research. As those who do enough research will know, the grinder is not the ideal choice for those interested in brewing espresso shots, but it certainly could be used in a pinch.I haven't been using the machine long enough to comment on the durability of the grinder. This is not a top end grinder, so I expect some things to break down over time. The bean hopper at the top is a bit sketchy in that it wobbles a bit and is made of plastic. Time will tell if this is a weak point of the grinder. The bin that catches the grinder is nice to have relative to the other options in this price range, but, as many other reviews have noted, there is buildup of grinds in the bin and in other parts of the machine caused by static electricity. This isn't a big deal for my tastes, but those looking for the utmost precision in measuring the amount of beans will need to buy a pricier grinder. The grinder fits on my counter top beneath cabinets with room to spare. I've not come across a coffee grinder that looks particularly good on a counter in this price range. This grinder looks OK, but the roughly 60-20-20 split of black-stainless-steel-clear plastic may not be to everyone's aesthetic tastes.I would recommend this as the best grinder for drip coffee in its price range. Cheaper grinders that are good for drip coffee cannot compete with the grind quality of this grinder.
I sprung for the Baratza Virtuoso Plus grinder after buying a low end burr grinder from a different company that didn't work well from the start. This machine works beautifully, intuitively, relatively quietly and quickly. Most importantly, it grinds consistently and well at both ends of the grind size spectrum, which are the two types my family uses - french press (coarsest ground) and espresso (very fine ground). Most seem to be able to handle one or the other very well, but not both. In addition, the hopper is large, and I can grind exactly as much as I use for one serving (once I familiarized myself with the amount of seconds it takes to grind the amount I wanted for each size french press I use), so I don't have to count scoops each time. I just grind a specific amount of time and dump the grounds directly into the press. A bonus is that it makes by far the least mess on my counter of all the grinders I've ever used - practically none in fact. I appreciate this machine every time I use it.
