The 2022 beginners box was a little disappointing. It is basically the same beginners box as the first except with a Vindicator Battlemech instead of a Wolverine. The Vindicator is nicely detailed but I was hoping for another new Battlemech in the box, not another Griffin. I have enough Griffins.

This was a gift for my nephew. I played Battletech as a kid and he’s the same age I was when my brother and I started. My nephew is very excited.

The 2022 beginners box was a little disappointing. It is basically the same beginners box as the first except with a Vindicator Battlemech instead of a Wolverine. The Vindicator is nicely detailed but I was hoping for another new Battlemech in the box, not another Griffin. I have enough Griffins.
This was a gift for my nephew. I played Battletech as a kid and he’s the same age I was when my brother and I started. My nephew is very excited.
First and foremost, I love Battletech franchises. These sculptures for the miniatures are great, but to me, a 45-ton Vindicator mech and a 55-ton Griffin do not seem to be a fair match. Again, I have nothing against the miniatures. They are fantastic sculpts and a much-needed update to the Battletech franchise. The other material is also very nice for starting players, it just seems the mechs are disproportionate for a fair fight for those beginning to learn the game. Other than that, I love it.
This box is Identical to the old Beginner Box, but the main difference is that the this set includes the Vindicator Battletech while the old one includes the Wolverine (which is also available in The Game of Armored Combat).The second difference is the Novella included. Other then that the included two-sided map(Desert #1 & Grasslands #1), Griffin Battlemech and other game aids are the same.
The starter set has 2 great minis. The rules for the starter set show basic game play mechanics in a very logical, and simple form. Anyone that might want to start Battletech, or miniature wargames this set will get you ready to advance to more complex games.
Battletech is a bit of an intimidating system. This box gives you everything you need to play and a version of the rules that is much less intimidating than normal play.
The two 'Mechs included are high quality and very easy to differentiate without painting if you want to start playing right away, and the cardboard standees look good. Instructions are well explained and simple, but that doesn't make it boring at all even if you play over and over.My only two complaints are that the record sheets included are not as well laminated as they could be (mine were lightly stained after the very first use, even after cleaning with alcohol); and that they could have included Alpha Strike cards for the two 'Mechs. Other than that, solid product!
This is a great starter box. It provides everything you need to learn and start playing Battletech. The rules provided are the quick start variety and provide enough to play multiple games with this set. However, if you find you like this game you will want to invest in the larger (Battletech a Game of Armored Combat) set to obtain the full rules set (plus additional mech miniatures). Speaking of the miniatures, you receive two of them in the box a Griffon and a Vindicator. IMHO the box (especially on sale) is worth the miniatures alone. You also receive cardboard punch-outs for variants and two additional mechs (Locust and Thunderbolt) allowing 4x4 lance v lance battles. Decent intro into Battletech. The box has clean rules and unit information, but only comes with two plastic figures, which would be the only downside I have for it.
