These are my third or fourth pair of Black Diamond poles, and they're by far the worst of the bunch. They seemed ok at first - they're light, compact, and easy to use. But in actual use on the trail, the locking system just doesn't hold up. On any slightly steep trail, the poles tend to collapse unpredictably when any load is put on them, whether that's going downhill or uphill. Steadying myself for a long step down isn't possible - the pole simply gives out underneath me most of the time. He doesn't typically use trekking poles, but the trail we took had some dicey areas where people on the online forums strongly recommended them.These are the telescoping style of poles which aren't quite as compact as the folding style, but I like them better. I personally have the folding style and have had trouble with them collapsing. These are much better.These have the EVA grips which my son said did not have any problem from moisture due to sweating. Mine have cork grips, but these were just as good.Well made sturdy product. Pretty lightweight, but definitely strong and secure.

I have the BD z carbon poles (for long distance running), these trail trek poles (2 actually) and the alpine carbon trekking poles. Each have their ideal uses depending on sport and goals (ie; lightweight, low footprint, stowable in a small running pack, durability, reliable, etc). I personally like these trek poles over all the others because they are so much more durable and have a far superior locking mechanism (I’ve found the others to be cumbersome and often fail). Bought these to replace a pair of REI sprung poles. These are definitely lighter and easier to set to a preferred length. The poles are pretty flexible, to the point where they bounce when used firmly on a hard surface like dried clay or rock. This was a little disconcerting at first but you get used to it and place the pole a little less firmly on hard surfaces. The point has yet to slip for me so a little bounce is ok.The handles are fairly small for a person with large sized hands. I was going to return them but gave them a chance and I haven’t regretted it.The foam handles are comfortable and not at all a drawback compared to cork handles. Bought these poles to use for walking to try to relieve hip pain due to arthritis. Finding these poles very helpful for walking on all types terrain. So far, durability seems very good. No slippage of length adjustment locking mechanisms. Am currently using with Black Diamond slip on rubber tips. These seem very durable even when using on paved city walking trails that have sand/gravel sprinkled on in winter.

They also provided good stability, especially on a day I suffered an injured calf muscle.I did have two issues with them. First, my initial pair had a stripped screw and one bottom clip would not tighten, which made the pole useless. I contacted BD and they sent me new clips, but for the wrong size poles. Fortunately, the screws were the right size, so I salvaged those. But without locktite the one I had to replace gets loose. Second, with the two adjustment points using the same cm markings on both, I had to do trail math so I only had to adjust one, and half the time I’m not sure I got it right.
