Love this camera for our purposes. BUT... The BlackMagic Video Assist (which is designed to take HDMI or SDI from the camera and preview or record to an SD card the footage), they are not fully compatible. If you plug both devices into the same outlet, it creates a voltage loop that fries the SDI output on the camera. Apparently this is a known, but not fixed issue. We had to return both cameras and are now very careful to run them on separate outlets. Disappointing that this is a known issue for 4+ years without resolve or warning labels.

I bought the camera so I could reuse the expensive Nikon lenses I own. I ordered it with the Commlite adapter also at digitec, which did not fit on the camera - thus I returned the adapter to digitec (Commlite Nikon F Lens for MFT). After a long internet search I bought the Metabones Nikon F to Micro 4/3 adapter (also at digitec), which does fit but needed much more force than I think it should. Apparently the MFT standard has its problems. To my surprise none of the computer monitors I own (3) show the HDMI output. An inexpensive beamer and a Philips TV do show just fine. Apparently also HMDI has its quirks. The camera claims 1920x1080 output - the computer monitor just says "out of range" (Asus 1920x1080 monitor). So after the month long wait to fit the lenses I ... Decent image quality and build - very good for the price. Small size is great, though youll have to use the breakout cable for 99% of uses, making it a little more unwieldy. The main issue is features it doesnt have. Theres no option to choose which output you want the menu to be visible to. As such, I have to add an HDMI monitor every time I want to change any settings. The gain tops out at 12db, which is fine for most applications, but I couldve used another 6db of range. The baked-in rec709 is a little frustrating. Perhaps the strangest thing is that when using a lens that has auto focus, the camera doesnt hold focus between power cycles. We have one mounted in the corner of a large room and I have to go focus it manually every time we turn it on. This is a ... MoreDecent image quality and build - very good for the price. It seems like some of these issues could be fixed with a firmware update, and I hope they are because I really want to like this camera.
This camera is priced well and incredibly built. Getting 4k footage and also 1080p60 footage. I love the MFT mount and small form factor. But, I had two things that bothered me: 1. Every Blackmagic camera I've used has a film or video profile for color. Film has a log curve, while video has a rec709 curve. I didn't see anything anywhere to say this camera came with a baked rec709 profile that can't be changed, but that's the case. The baked color doesn't even match other BMD video profiles! This was really frustrating because I wanted to use this as a b-camera with other BMD cameras. 2. Recording 4k can only be done through SDI... but the menu can only be changed over HDMI. This was a bit frustrating in practice.
I thought these were the newer model, completely my fault, but was able to make them work nonetheless. I couldn't use the HDMI to control the lenses from the ATEM software or board, but if I had the equipment to do it, all of the cables were provided. Only wish I'd ordered what I meant to. All my fault :)
This camera is for the people who are looking only to capture cinema quality film. Its compact and versatile. It can be mounted any where including a drone! One thing I love about BlackMagic is the provide great customer service, along with the editing software... the same software that major motion picture companies use! We use it to live stream and record and it works FABULOUS!
I have a bunch of these. We use them for in-studio recording (actually produce a broadcast news show with them) as well as lots of location live streaming. We can easily mount them from trussing, or on a stage in an inconspicuous location and remote control them from our ATEM switchers. The sensor isn't great in low-light, but using the ATEM's color corrector rather than just boosting the camera's gain can yield amazing results. The menu buttons are a bit annoying, and the menu can only be accessed through the HDMI port, but for it's intended use, this isn't a problem for us. Make sure you buy the mini-DIN to SDI cables needed to connect this camera to your regular SDI cables.
Needed a small camera with control for a tough shot. The micro was the perfect solution.
Purchased this camera for a POV Camera in a hospital operating room environment. It's small, light and packed full of full broadcast features. Intelligently organized controls and tremendous mounting and operation modes. Brings fun back into TV broadcasting
