Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro
For extreme power, the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro has all the features of the HD models, combined with incredible processing for working in Ultra HD. This model's SDI has been upgraded to full 12G-SDI with a loop 12G-SDI output. The two SDI outputs are both 12G-SDI so you can play ProRes 4444 files for true Ultra HD fill and key out. The HDMI connections and the ProRes and DNx file formats all switch between SD, HD and Ultra HD television standards. Like the other models, H.264 is included for SD and HD, but then switches to H.265 when recording in Ultra HD. Even the networking has been upgraded to 10G Ethernet for incredible speed! You also get 2 redundant AC power supplies!

First of all, this product is still hard to beat from a prices standpoint. However, out of the box it was advertised to have DNxHD codec and didn't. After a phone conversation with BlackMagic support they are still writing this and hope to release an update soon.Secondly, unlike every professional gear it doesn't natively take embedded audio over SDI. You need a separate convertor for this. While this isn't clearly spelled out it is assumed to have this feature as do all decks in it's class. Finally, the product is still a good product. Works great and solidly and the price is hard to beat. We would still recommend this product but additional information on Black Magic's website would also be helpful in the future.

Yet again features left incomplete I guess to get it out the door before NAB, Prores 422HQ ONLY, no DNXHD option in setup, lacking control of settings from front panel, did figure out the source timecode with the remote button on, I'm also seeing inconsistencies on source audio levels to record, they seem to come in hot through SDI, no control or handles for levels. Also, documentation is limited, at best. Trying to get it functional to act as a backup for my current playback system for a huge upcoming show, may have to buy another of the more expensive product instead- tried and proven. I predict a return if it isn't up to it's specs within a month.

I bought this to solve my overheating camera problems. Since any video output can be converted into SDI with a converter, this device can sit in the air conditioning and the camera can stay on for hours in the sun. I'll check it out.

According to Black Magic many of the features listed are not actually available yet, but instead will be delivered in a update sometime in the future. Currently the XLR ports and DNxHD (and perhaps ProRes) apparently do not work. At this time it has less functionality than the standard hyperdeck.
Solid product, works well on 1080i. It will not I/O 1080 23.98PsF... Well it will ingest Psf material but will not output PsF, only 1080 24p. According to Black Magic they have had several requests for this to work but because HDMI does not do PsF, their box won't either. Seems simple to me. Disable the HDMI output and send the 1080 23.98PsF signal out the SDI output only. If they fix this I WILL buy again (returning unit). Just some info... After calling AJA. I think the AJA Ki Pro Rack will I/O PsF (see manual page 52) BUT it does NOT I/O uncompressed. I can't use this either.
I own both the HyperDeck Studio and now the Pro version. I work on several projects where the sound is not embedded in the SDI signal so this deck is a must for me without more adapter boxes added. At this point with very limited functions working I would hold off on this purchases until BMD gets to it's claimed working functions.03/23/2013
The Hyperdeck is superb. It has served double as a 4K interface for 2nd monitor output to other devices.
So far so good. Was easy to set up and worked great. We only used it for on week. But are pleased with it's performance.
I use the HyperDeck Studio Pro to both record video demonstrations to be given out to physicians as well as for recording live presentations. The high quality of the video recordings is essential in order to see the etiology of the disease presented. I have used no video recording equipment that is better at retaining the quality of the video in the rawest format. There is a great deal of connectivity with this device making it easy to choose the format which is proper in different A/V situations. I wish that the device were more controllable from a computer. I don't know why the device came without a power cord...
As a recorder it is really good, but as a playback device it's not performing well. We bought this thinking it will handle anything and be futureproof with 12g. With any H.264 files playing (except for the files it records) the playback is choppy and eventually it freezes. Must be unplugged to work again. This goes for any h264 file generated on other devices pc etc. Blackmagic support is working on a firmware fix as I write this. If they can fix this it's a 5 star player (it really is a versatile player with control through console and ftp transfer). As it is I would never use it for a live event or broadcast playback. For recording it has been very stable so far for HD recordings.
