Bodum Bistro Electric Water Kettle, 1.0 L, 34 oz Off White

This kettle seems to lack the quality I expect from Bodum. It’s made of plastic, I was expecting it to be stainless steel. It’s very basic, doesn’t customize temperature, but the price is probably reflective of its quality. I’m returning it because I’d rather spend a bit more for a kettle that will last a long time and not be made with compromised quality.

I replaced my old kettle (same model) with this one. Old one lasted three years and then just died without warning. I figured for $20 I had gotten my money's worth. I liked the kettle so wanted to replace it with same one. The new one is okay, but there are a couple of quirks that I don't care for.1. It seems to be a little larger that the old one. It may not be, but this one seems a bit less slim and trim.2. The lid sways wildly when I open to fill it - so watch splashes on lid and sometimes out. Old one just popped open and stayed in place until I closed it.3. The kettle switches off with a very loud "crack". It is startling when I am nearby. Old one just shut off without a sound. Don't buy Brodurn didn't last waranty period and to do waranty hoops were impossible for me.

Bought on an extended vacation in Hilo Hawaii this February so don't have original box and paper receipts . Didn't bring water to boil but was hotter than the rental home provided coffee maker. Used for two months there served its purpose. On return home used for another 2 months but kept not getting less temperature out put. 5 months after purchase doesn't make any attempts to heat up. Customer service said no adjustment and gave what was need to return. Impossible to do that and frankly not worth the effort. Warranty on warranty extra I don't use . If works I buy another product some day by brand if not I just write warning review for others. My ad vice great concept but try a different brand.

Efficient, works as expected, love the red color

This kettle performs as expected, heating water to a boil in about 8 minutes when filled to max-capacity, faster for smaller volumes. If I want water that is hot but not necessarily boiling, I can look through the transparent window to detect steam and just shut the device off using the power-off button. I don't think the lid can be fully removed, which impedes two things: I can't hold the kettle directly under the filtered-water dispenser in the door of my refrigerator, and the interior of the kettle cannot be cleaned as easily as I'd like. On the flip-side, the lid stays locked shut while pouring, which limits exposure to steam (and resulting burns) while pouring. Get It!

I use this thing multiple times a-day. Absolutely love it. It boils water in like 10 seconds if you only wanna brew a cup at a time. And it boils really quickly for larger batches as well. I can drink as much tea is I want as often as I want what this thing it's great. When you use it a lot the outside of the kettle itself my get warm to hot but the handle will not get hot. I absolutely love the automatic shut off for safety and because I can attach my kettle to an outlet timer so I have tea in the morning when I wake up and I don't have to worry about shutting it off right away because it will do that itself if it needs to. So far I've seen no sign of the bottom of the kettle being hot when detached to the base so I can put it on my desk without any worry. I highly ... MoreI use this thing multiple times a-day. I'd skip the Bodum kettle.

I purchased this kettle because it was small and only held 2 cups. Just enough to do one large mug of coffee or tea or water for a bowl of oatmeal. We use it 3 or 4 times a week. Not multiple times a day or even every day. About every other day to heat one kettle of water. I purchased this in early January 2019, today is December 21,2019 and I've had 2 stop working.The first one that was originally purchased in January began to malfunction in April. The on/off switch would not stay in the on position. You would flip it on and it would immediately flit back off.I emailed Bodum because it was still under warranty. Their customer service was wonderful. They asked me to email a video of the malfunction. I did and they quickly sent out a replacement. It will began to heat the water but turn off before it reaches a boil. The on/off switch stays on. Sometimes it will cycle back on and come almost to a boil before cycling back off.So needless to say there are apparently some mechanical issues that need to be fixed. I'm not going to bother contacting bodum again as I am just going to try another brand.

Not the fastest kettle

I bought this kettle intentionally for its small form factor and volume. Keep in mind that the slender design implies a smaller heating area at the bottom which impacts the heating time. On the other hand a smaller volume of water is being boiled, so I would've thought that it might roughly even out. It does not. In my application, the time to boil is not a big deal, though it is longer than any other kettle I have used.I am also experiencing unexpected behavior from the fine meshed sieve inside the spout. After a fresh boil, initially water does not want to go through the sieve, impacting the way the stream pours out of the spout. I will wait and see, if the sieve is just too new, and will be more permeable with time. Saves Counter Space; Doesn’t Look Like Coffee Pot

Didn’t realize it wasn’t one piece and was VERY happy to realize it comes off the base and I can carry the pitcher to other rooms. I like that it looks neither like an old coffee pot nor like the more utilitarian electric water heaters. It heats quickly and has a smaller footprint, takes up less counter space, because it’s not rounded. Very happy.

Stylish, compact

I purchased this item as a gift for my mom. I looked for an electric kettle that had a plugged in base, so she could lift the kettle off and fill it without trailing a cord. She has red accents in her house and the red was a classic shade: not too purple or too orange, it fits in well. Additionally, she mentioned that she loves the wide handle because it is easy to grip. She mostly uses it to boil water for instant oatmeal and pour over coffee in the morning; the 4 cup capacity is the perfect amount for one person. As other reviews mention, the lid remains attached and flips on the center axis to fill; it’s not a big opening but just big enough for a kitchen faucet stream. The only recommendation that I would make, is for the full line lettering to be a little darker (it’s white) with a thicker fill line and slightly larger font. That would make it much easier to see at a glance. I usually buy Bodum for coffee making supplies and this is the same food quality.

Surprise…

I bought new item for full price but received it in a really dirty, used condition. The box was opened prior I opened it when I received it. It was not packaged properly like it’s new and the book inside of it with instructions was all wrinkled and stuffed inside the box. I did wash the kettle and checked make sure it worked, and it did. I’m keeping the item but it’s not okay to get rid of the used items for full price to someone like me.
