The gymsets Dumbbells are just about the sexiest piece of gym equipment I've ever owned.I'm currently in Phase 3 of my P90X workouts and the only regret I have is not having purchased these sooner! They are FUN to use! Everything from switching the weight dials, pulling them out of the base, the feel of the grip and sliding them back into the base is enjoyable. Even the rattle of the weights works with your momentum when lifting. I bought these in January of this year and was really looking forward to using them. At first, they were good but after the first few months, out of nowhere, the lock mechanism started not to work on one dumbbell. Whenever I tried detaching the dumbbell from the platform it seemed to be stuck which made me concerned. I also couldn't adjust the weight of the dumbbell when it was stuck. The only way I got the dumbell to detach from the platform was to use extreme force and push down on it which then made the dumbbell clip to the weights and then I was able to take it off the platform (BTW this kept on happening to me during my workouts and it was very frustrating trying to detach the dumbbell from the platform.) I'm seriously disappointed in this product and regret spending four hundred dollars. I would not recommend this product to anyone, please don’t waste your money on these and look for a better quality alternative.

When I gave my son my other set of adjustable weights, I replaced them with these. The fact that these weights have 2.5 pounds increments is really nice to allow for incremental increases in weight rather than the larger 5 pound weight jumps of many adjustable weights. Adjusting the weights is very easy and they nest back on the stand quickly. The construction is sturdy and I don't fear one of the plates will dislodge. They are a bit bulky for a few exercises, so sometimes I switch to the smaller non-adjustable weights that I have. I work out from home most mornings, so having this variety of weight options is great for whole-body workouts.

I’ve had these now for a few months and have experienced the comeuppance of the crappy gimmick they really are. You get them thinking they’re gonna be this seamless, easy use pair of dumbbells that takes all of the clutter out of working out but ironically, they actually make harder. Every time you want to do a drop set, you have to first put them down, then adjust the weight, then pick them back up, that is, if they don’t get locked in their holder, and then rinse and repeat. Not very seamless in my opinion. This morning I went out to do shoulders and arms and one of them was locked and the dial would not move, no matter what I tried. Gentle shaking, just minor torque application to loosen up whatever was locking it up. I tried picking it up and it would NOT budge, ... I just received my selectech dumbell stand and my 1090 dumbells. The dumbells are awesome but the stand has one huge issue. The dumbell trays are held on with straps! The biggest issue is that the straps run across the top of the dip in the tray for hand clearance when attempting to grab the dumbells. I had to get creative and attach the straps together so the buckle is underneath but this still does nothing for the interference when gripping the dumbell. A simple slot near the bottom of each tray would allow for a different routing for the strap to prevent this issue or better yet utilize the screw holes in the bottom of the tray and fasten the tray to the stand with bolts! I'm very disappointed that this quality piece of equipment is downgraded with something that ... MoreI just received my selectech dumbell stand and my 1090 dumbells. I've been in the market for weights for the last few months. I've been wanting to get back into working out and recently found these (on cyber Monday) and picked them up. I recieved them shortly after and I knew they would be high quality as soon as I unpacked the box. They weights were both in 1 box, packed individually and immovable in shipping due to the tight fit of the Styrofoam protection. When I took them out, they were a high quality material with only minimal plastic. Overall, feel good quality. They are also easy to use, the only thing I had to get used to was the gear to change weight is flipped on each side.I am looking forward to using them over the coming years.

You will definitely want two of these fantastically engineered babies in your home if not for the convenience, then at least to marvel at them. I ve already done several workouts, all of which could technically be unilateral, but it s so convenient to have two DBs. Whenever I m exercising and only doing unilateral training, I keep one on a low weight, and the other on a heavier weight. Absolutely fantastic.This tool is an absolute feat of engineering. So for instance, if you re doing chest presses, you ll naturally pick it up where the red plastic is. Once you invert the dumbbells upside down, the plates are now sustained by the rod, and not just by the locking mechanism.Not that the plates would fall they re pretty secure but if one of them somehow loosens up, they won t just fall directly on your face.These dumbbells are, of course, bigger than the typical ones at the gym. It takes some getting used to, but not so much that it s disruptive.Bonus: The plates you leave behind can also be used as free weights. I ve already used them as medicine balls, only they re not ball-shaped.My one true gripe has to do with the packaging. It s tough to protect such a heavy item, so I understand using the white foam material, but that poses a problem if you have children or pets. When unpacking the dumbbells, you ll have white particles and white foam EVERYWHERE, which can pose a risk for an overly curious toddler or a dog. I recommend unpacking in a closed garage where you can easily sweep and where the wind won t blow the foam everywhere. I think cardboard padding would have been ideal.
I needed a wider range of dumbbells and couldn't find odd weights in a form factor that i liked (17.5 & 22.5 are severely limited), so i went with these. I like the grip so all the weight variations are perfect. Also, now i don't have rows of weights sitting on the floor. Changing the weight selections on the fly does take a bit of practice but once you find your stride, it's not allot more than swapping out dumbbells. I do recommend getting the stand as well. I originally haven't and just used them on the floor but the added height and fixed orientation further improves the ease of use on the fly. Plus reduces the tripping hazard of weights on the floor. I have had a couple instances where the plates get "stuck" and the dial won't turn. Just gotta jiggle each ... This was really only a problem i encountered on the floor. I would drag the weights and base slightly off the floor to move them and it would put the plates off kilter. I'm a 48-yr old guy of average fitness, average strength, and average physique. I started lifting weights to...don't laugh...improve my golf game. I love a bargain, but I love a great value even more, and I'll pay for the most expensive choice if it's worth it. When I decided to get some adjustable dumbbells, I started digging into the details. See below for the brands I considered and the pros and cons in my opinion. I only reviewed the ones I was able to try with my own hands (mainly a used or new sporting goods store or friends' places). Bottom line: the gymstes 'bells provide the most bang for the buck and are the best choice by a wide margin!
