Canon EF 135mm f/2 L USM Lens

$706.84

(431 reviews)

Ideal for portraiture, the EF 135mm f/2L USM is a medium telephoto prime and a member of Canon's L-series of lenses. The long focal length coupled with the f/2 maximum aperture afford a great deal of control over depth of field for isolating subject matter and using selective focus, and the bright aperture also benefits shooting handheld in low-light conditions. In regard to the optical design, the lens uses two ultra-low dispersion elements to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing for high clarity, and a Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy. Complementing the imaging attributes, a ring-type USM is employed to deliver quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control. Medium-length telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 216mm equivalent focal length. Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords significant control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques. Two ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy. Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions. A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an rear focusing system, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override. Rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques. As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens is sealed against dust and moisture for working in inclement environmental conditions. Compatible with optional EF 1.4X and EF 2X teleconverters.

A Different Look

This lens is where you really begin to stretch your legs with telephoto, the ability to get sharp photos from across a room is why for event photographers this lens is an ace up their sleeve. The fast aperture of f/2 means that this lens also allows you get the shutter speed needed to freeze the action of indoor sports from court side. Not to mention that at this focal length you can get some great depth of field compression when taking portraits. If you need to reach a little farther than an 85mm or are looking for a different look to your portraits, this lens is worth considering.

This is an absolutely fantastic lens and exceptional value for money. Every single photo I take with this lens gives me that 'wow' factor. Not only are the images razor sharp wide open, the creamy bokeh and shallow DOF it creates at f2 gives a very unique look to photos especially when combined with the 135mm focal length. It sounds cliché but if you're looking through photos on Flickr or 500px etc, 9 times out of 10 you can easily identify a photo taken with this lens because it really does make you say "wow".I generally find myself using my camera (5D3) to take photographs of my daughter and in the short time I've owned this lens I've found myself feeling even more satisfied with the images I've produced. I've already had a few printed on canvas, I should have bought it sooner! It really excels when you use it for portraits, and thanks to its lightning fast AF it can easily keep up with my daughter (who is almost 3) when she's running around and playing outside.I can't wait to get some more use out of this lens. I already feel like it has taken my photography up a notch in terms of both the quality of images produced but also the interesting composition you can achieve in photos with this focal length.I was uncertain about the lens and had my initial doubts given it's age and relatively low price (for an L series lens!) but all of the positive reviews are right. I did a lot of prior online research into this lens and came across a few instances where people had sold theirs at one point in time but eventually found themselves buying it once again as nothing else seemed to compare. That says it all really and was the deciding factor for me.If I lost or broke mine today I would replace it in a heartbeat. It is without a doubt my favourite lens to date.

Amazing lens
13 September 2023

I absolutely love this lens, I tend to use the 70-200 for portraits, however the weight of it is killing my back. This lens is much lighter. I love the sharpness and of course that beautiful compression. It creates the most beautiful separation between subject and background. Highly recommend this lens for portraits or weddings. It phenomenal. Lens Rental always has fantastic gear and it's always well taken care of.

Over the years I’ve never received anything less than amazing service and products from LensRentals.com. The used Canon 135mm f/2L I bought recently arrived in excellent condition, looked brand new, and has performed flawlessly. Plus, the price was much better than any other competitors. Highly recommend!

Super easy rental process! My lens actually came before my requested date, and everything is included for your return (don't recycle your box!) even the tape😁. My only problem is that now I want to own this lens because it was amazing, and I even had the option to just purchase it and keep it if I wanted (soon enough little 135)...

Must have lens even in 2023!
27 January 2023

This is an awesome lens to have even in 2023. Images are sharp and gives a really nice subject separation and 3D pop! AF is blazingly fast and accurate. Sigma 135mm f/1.8 is the superior lens to this but it's more costly and a lot heavy. Sigma version is a tiny bit slower to focus. This Canon lens works beautifully with the Canon 2x iii extender after stopping it down to f/5.6. That'll give you 270mm on full frame, quite sharp too. Just wish this had weather sealing. No regrets buying this lens. Works flawlessly with my EOS R.

My Canon L-Series Dream Prime lens
10 January 2021

I spent the better part of 2020 coveting my ideal "portrait" type prime lens. Originally, I was all in on the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS prime lens. However after much deliberation, I jumped ship to the EF135mm f/2L prime lens. This lens checks off all the boxes and although it does not have image stabilization, I have previously learned to shoot sharp images w/my 24-70mm f/2.8L usm lens with proper technique & settings. My new EF 135mm f/2L has not failed me and has become my "go to" lens for my growing pet (dogs & kitties) photography. This lens is incredibly sharp & the bokeh is to die for. I like that you don't have to be in the subject's face (literally) - I can keep a comfortable distance between me & my subject & achieve the desired composition. Sharpest Lens ever, Best blur background, Best in Low Light

This is the best lens; 1) Most Sharpest Lens 2) Best bookeh (blur background) 3) Best in low light 4) Best for portraits (but have to maintain distance / challange) 5) Best headshot 6) Best Value Now I bought Canon EF 85mm 1.2L. I love this lens. I use 135mm F2L prob over a year. I am not technical I just compare results for each shot. If you are wedding photographer, if you can manage distance thing then 135mm F2L is the best. For me I dont have that much patience, in tight environment its hard to manage so I decided to try out 85mm F2L. I am happy with my decision. Although 85mm is almost more than double price. But if you are not in wedding and not in indoor pictures then go for 135mm F2L. 135mm F2L is super sharp lens. It has best bookeh. Whether you buy 135mm F2L or 85mm F1.2L, both lens are quality lens and you won't be disappointed with anyone.

Canon EF 135mm f2.0: Love this lens. I had no idea how well it would perform indoors for sports but it was perfection. So I bought it! Amazing customer service, as usual. I do a lot of equine portrait photography and this little guy is a must have. I’m a lensrental customer for life.
