Awesome Beach Tent

The simplicity of putting it up, and taking it down is one thing that sets it apart from other beach tents. My wife even saw an idea of filling up 1 gallon freezer bags with the ocean water, and dropping those in the pockets to support the legs to the ground. Was a lot cleaner than filling the pockets up with beach sand. It even fits easily back into the storage bag that comes with it. Normally most things never fit back into the storage bag that comes with the product. Not the case with this one. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star, the center anchor stud that goes into the ground bent with about a 15mph beach wind for some reason. My brother-in-law liked it so much he ordered one from the beach so he’d have it when he got home.My crew is very sun sensitive, and we have always relied on umbrellas (or other) for beach shade. We’ve been going to the beach for 60+ years. My father was devoted to commercial grade canvas umbrellas. The commercial grade canvas umbrella is a 7.5 ft octagon (almost 40 sq ft of shade). These umbrellas are very good even in gusty heavy winds. To accommodate our crew we need to set up 4 or 5 in a row.We have tried other umbrellas (large Patio tilting (very heavy), lighter weight retail style (very weak), etc.) and none compare to the commercial item.We have tried the stretchy canopy thing but gave up after a two seasons because it wasn't good in the wind (these don’t work well in wind and it’s always windy on the beach. I spent half my time adjusting and resetting it whenever the wind came up or changed direction)We have tried the framed 10 ft party tent. We gave up on this after one season because of the weight and setup (These are very heavy, difficult for one person to set up and take down, not great in heavier wind)We have tried fiberglass dome tent style things for little kids (These work okay but they are small and have sides and usually a bottom that detract from the beach experience). Only babies and toddlers used it.We did NOT try, but sat next to, a few of the free flying arched shades. These are TERRIBLE! They make a constant flapping noise, and they fail whenever the wind changes direction. They also flap in the users faces whenever the wind dies down a bit. And if the wind is from land and not sea then the flapping part faces the ocean and constantly obstructs your view as well as hits you in the face. You need to always be facing out from the front of the arch, so if the wind is not directly from the sea, then you are pointed in an odd direction.Do yourself a favor and get a CoolCabana. I promise you will not be sorry.

Exactly what I was looking for

Coming from having a big beach umbrella, this is a huge leap for my family and me. The umbrella was ok for a while but we really needed more space to fit in, not to mention we also needed something that folds into a small pack to store in the trunk of my car. This is Cabana meets those needs and then some:- It folds in a relatively small package- Unpacks into a very large Cabana with enough space for 6 people and a few beach items- Setup is very easy, you can get it ready by yourself in 5 minutes. Our friends were very impressed as well of how fast and easy it is to set up and they ended up getting out of under their umbrellas to sit down and hang out with us under this nice looking shelter. If there is one thing I would add to make it even more perfect is a removable side wall to help blocking the sun as it gets low at the horizon. But the lack of it doesn't take away how amazing this product already is.

Great Decision
17 July 2023

I was tired of setting up 2 umbrellas for my family so I have been doing my research to try and decide what to get. I contemplated getting the kind that works with the wind, but I decided on the Coolcabanas. I have no regrets. I just used it this month and it worked amazingly well. On my first day setting it up I had my son help me a bit only because it was my first time. I was prepared with a rubber mallet and I did need it. I guess the sand on our beach here is very hard as you start going a bit deep. The videos that I saw online nobody had to use one. I was also prepared with a small hand shovel for the sand bags. I guess the sand on our beach here is very hard as you start going a bit deep. The videos that I saw online nobody had to use one. I was also prepared with a small hand shovel for the sand bags. The second day I was confident and I did set it up by myself. I must say that there was minimal wind 8-10 mph winds on these first two days. On the third day we had 20 mph winds, so I again needed my sons help only to hold the middle section as I extended the arms and filled the sand bags. After it was set up it really held up well with that kind of wind. If I had had my umbrellas up I would have been worried and trying to anchor them down. The take down process was very simple as well, again my son helped me take it down on the third windy day. It is for the most part a one person job, but when it's very windy you might need someone to help and support the middle section and the hanging fabric as you are lowering the arms. I just found out that some people fill plastic ziploc bags or water jugs and place them inside the sand bags. I might try that next summer. If it is very windy some people also twist the fabric legs then fill the bottom bags with sand so that the legs won't catch the wind or drag. This might also help with not obstructing your view. The large CoolCabanas provided plenty of shade for our family of four. All four of us could not sit next to each other though. It had to be 2 in front and 2 in the back. It still worked out. We also had to keep moving our chairs forward later in the day because the sun sets behind us at our beach. Not a big deal, but I would LOVE the option to be able to set up a sidewall to help with the sun setting. Is that in the works by any chance CoolCabanas? I might try and velcro my own back side wall next year if I can find the right material in the right size, especially the height. The first two pictures are from day one, it wasn't very windy. The third picture is from the third day which was pretty windy 20 mph. Once set up properly it really holds up well on a windy day. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase, we'll just have to see how it holds up and how long it will last us. I hope it will be durable and that we get to use it for many summers to come. Just like others have said, I wish I had this many years ago.

Great sun protection, easy setup
4 September 2022

I didn't want a traditional umbrella because I've seen those fly down the beach or invert in stronger winds. Plus I wanted something with more square foot shade than a beach umbrella, especially with larger overhead protection from pesky seagulls who are always trying to steal food from you. Before I got this, I purchased one of those stretchy beach tents because they're lightweight and also have a lot of coverage, but I was concerned about the large footprint of those tents when fully stretched out. So (cautiously) I took a chance on the CoolCabana after reading and watching YouTube reviews. I'm so glad I did.I have the 8x8 tent. It's like one of those EZ up tents, but this one is light enough for me to carry (female, 5'3", 110 pounds). So (cautiously) I took a chance on the CoolCabana after reading and watching YouTube reviews. I'm so glad I did.I have the 8x8 tent. It's like one of those EZ up tents, but this one is light enough for me to carry (female, 5'3", 110 pounds). Setup and packing up are easy (there are some good YouTube videos out there that show how to setup and pack it back up). You could do it by yourself but in stronger winds, it's probably best to have at least two people. On the windiest day of my vacation, one person held the center pole in place while another person handled unfolding/folding the arms and filled the sandbags. For a little extra stability and so there's no slack in the fabric, dig a little hole under each sand bag, place the filled-sandbag in that hole, and then pack the sand around the sand pocket.I'd say this is good shade for 2-3 adults and then the rest may be in the sun depending on where the sun is situated throughout the day. I used this 6 days in a row without an issue. Towards the end of my vacation, the winds were quite strong. Those with umbrellas either closed up their umbrellas due to the strong winds or were chasing them down the beach when they came out of the sand. Between the center stake and the 4 sandbag corners, this sun canopy stayed put in those high winds. Does it budge? Yes, a bit if the winds are really strong, but it doesn't come out of the sand and flexes with the wind.I got the solid navy color thinking the darker color would be better for sun protection, but I saw quite a few other CoolCabanas on the beach of lighter colors or different patterns, and they seemed to provide just as much shade. So if you're more into the fabric design than I am and don't want a solid navy, those lighter colors seem to be just as good, if you're wondering.I also almost bought a separate carrying bag, thinking it would be impossible to get back into the original carrying case, but this sun tent is very smartly designed. When packing this up, keep the canopy on the pole (don't take it off the pole to try to do it on the sand), empty the sandbags one at a time, fold up the arms one at a time, and put the sandbags one by one over the top of the center of the folded canopy so the sandbags are layered one on top of the other. This holds all the arms of the canopy together so you're not manually holding them together to get the bag back on. Slide the carrying bag over the top of the folded canopy. Then take the folded canopy off the staked poles, take the poles out of the sand, and put them in the carrying case too. Super easy.My only request would be for an optional sunwall attachment for extra sun protection. Hopefully this is designed and offered in the future.Highly recommend this product for the beach. Only time will tell how long this will last before it needs to be replaced but one week of use for 6+ hours a day was no problem. I may get the grass kit to try on dirt at the kids' sporting events though I'm on the fence about creating holes in the ground at nicer fields.

Insane how easy the setup and take down is!
25 August 2023

Really well made product - now it needs to stand the test of time. The design addresses a few things:1. Setup and take down speed and complexity2. Durability of material3. Uses what you have at the beach (sand) to weigh down and anchor the support beams instead of using metal. There is only one solid piece and that is the main upright beam in the center. That means that the weight of the cabana when packed is light but you add poundage for anchoring at the site with the sand instead of carrying extra apparatus (weight) with you. It also has an air escape hatch on top which is a must for those mild winds at the beach. I am impressed and I am very skeptical when it comes to purchasing stuff like this. The company should send a round of review every two years to check on the test of time because it would not be worth the money if it doesn't last for a few years. Bought for summer of 2023 - used only for one week and still good as new.

Love love love the Coolcabana!

Let me start off by saying that, I do wish the cabana was larger than 8x8. But where the size lacked, the ease of set-up, durability in construction, portability, AND, most importantly, resistance to wind SHINED brighter than the beach sun!We were contemplating all of the other beach shades and the Coolcabana was on the bottom of the list between the Neso, Sun Ninja, and Shibumi. Ultimately I made this purchase because of the wind resistance.Hilton Head Island was pretty windy on the beach this last week. Within our group someone brought a Sun Ninja. I was immediately jealous because of the footprint, lack of a pole in the middle meaning more maneuverability etc... on the crowded beach I started taking note real quick at how often a Neso, Sun Ninja (including ... MoreLet me start off by saying that, I do wish the cabana was larger than 8x8. I was immediately jealous because of the footprint, lack of a pole in the middle meaning more maneuverability etc... on the crowded beach I started taking note real quick at how often a Neso, Sun Ninja (including the one in our group), and Shibumis were falling over. Each day I had to help others get their beach shade set up and balanced. I was always able to set up the CoolCabana on my own. Each day I had to help in a crisis situation when someone else's beach shade toppled over and a pole smacked someone in the head. My CoolCabana never fell once. Those other sun shades are great, but if you're like me and you like to set it and forget it, then the CoolCabana 5 is what you need for your next beach trip.Might have to get the grass kit next for our next camping trip.

NC Beach Trip

Well, the cabana is extremely easy to set up, even for a single person...as long as there isn't any wind that is. We used the cabana several times while at the beach recently, and overall it was fantastic. However, on one particularly windy day, with about a 10mph constant wind and occasional gusts to 15mph, the cabana didn't seem to hold up. In fact, we ended up taking it down to avoid damaging it and while taking it down we noticed the lower spike bar was now slightly bent! (See attached photos.) I watched a few more cabana YouTube videos to make sure I was setting it up correctly and got a few more techniques to try the next time we go if it gets windy. Ironically, our single umbrella seemed to do just fine. But of course, the umbrella doesn't have the same surface area as the cabana to catch the wind. All in all, we still love it and we totally enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone going to the beach!

Very cool - 1000% better than an Umbrella!

We have the large version of the Cabana and we are VERY happy customers. Not only is it incredibly easy to put up and take down but it is also not too heavy to carry and it is very well made and robust.Below are some of the advantages I have found compared to our old umbrella:- It can easily shade 4 adults (compared to 2 under an umbrella) - in fact we have had 6 adults under ours- You can easily stand under the Cabana which you cannot do under an umbrella- There are Storage pockets for thongs or phone built in!- My wife found it was actually easier to put up and take down compared to screwing in/unscrewing an umbrella post.- It is much more wind resistant compared to our umbrella- We think it provides a better view of the beach/sea for people sitting behind ... MoreWe have the large version of the Cabana and we are VERY happy customers. When I was stuck behind an Umbrella, the Umbrella itself blocked my view. I feel this was because of the height of a Cabana (?at 1.8m) as, when you are sitting on the sand, the only things obscuring your view of the beach are the thin legs and post. Umbrellas, on the other hand, being much lower, cause the whole umbrella to block the view.I hope this review helps someone.
