I purchased the 2700 to replace a 7-year old Sony 1030, powering Monitor Audio Silver speakers, in my 3.1 set-up. I'd never been really happy with the Sony, and the Denon is a major improvement, especially in stereo, using analogue inputs from a Marantz 6006 CD player.Sound quality is difficult to describe and often subjective. However, I am delighted with the sound from the CD player \ streamer. Moreover, when I listen to ClassicFM on the built-in Internet radio, I can now clearly hear the difference between relatively good, average and poor original recordings being played by the station: I now know that my system is not the "weakest link" in the broadcasting \ listening process. However, it was an unnecessary battle getting the unit to deliver. I made the mistake of using the Audyssey set-up software, which resulted in a type of 3.1 sound but, when I switched to stereo audio with Direct and/or Pure Direct, the sound quality was awful: there was constant white noise evenly from both main speakers. I then turned-off every sound option in every menu and levelled the speaker volumes: still no improvement. Finally, I found the menu option to "set speakers to defaults", clicked that, and the white noise disappeared and the volume jumped by about 20%. In brief, there is a near ridiculous number of sound processing options in the various menus, akin to stacking half a dozen graphic equalizers on top of each other. I would urge future buyers to: turn-off every option and then carefully try individual options to see if they are beneficial. Lastly, AV receivers should not be used to post-process the image feed: that should be done in either the source device or the display \ TV, otherwise, once again, you're adding layers of potentially conflicting post-processing.Lastly, as an aside, it still perplexes me why AV manufacturers don't make 3.2 receivers, as a stepping stone between soundbars and surround sound, for customers wanting good stereo and good TV audio, in limited space.

Purchased the Denon AVR-X2700H 7.2 channel AV receiver through the web sales team. The agent (Felix) was very knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. I wondered if the receiver may have a problem driving two sets of 4-ohm speakers. He reassured me that it should not be a problem, but if it was, I could contact him by email and he would arrange a free collection for return. Also received free speaker cables worth £50. Felix arranged for next-day delivery. I’ve had the receiver for a few days now. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by its AV performance as a 7.1 channel amplifier, and its musical abilities in stereo. In my opinion it is far superior to the similarly priced and specified Yamaha RXV-6A receiver which I also own (purchased from Richer Sounds in Nov 2020). ... MorePurchased the Denon AVR-X2700H 7.2 channel AV receiver through the web sales team. In my opinion it is far superior to the similarly priced and specified Yamaha RXV-6A receiver which I also own (purchased from Richer Sounds in Nov 2020). Felix kindly provided advice in setting up the receiver based on my existing equipment. The sources include a Sony PS5 (for Games and UHD 4K Blu-ray discs), Xbox One S, Sky Q and Amazon Firestick 4K Max. The output goes to a LG UHD 4K TV and a UHD 4K HDR projector (Optoma UHD35, also purchased from Richer Sounds). I’m using HDMI 2.1 cables for input and output except for the projector which is limited to HDMI 2.0. The speaker set-up is 5.1.2 (including front height speakers). The UHD 4K HDR (HDR 10 and Dolby Vision where available) images are sharp and crisp, as expected. I’ve not tested the 4K 120Hz feature as I don’t have any appropriate display nor monitor for it. Sound wise, the receiver outputs Dolby Atmos without any issues, but you’ll need to configure your sources very carefully. For instance, DA can be output in one of two ways on your existing equipment: either as uncompressed Dolby TrueHD, or compressed Dolby Digital Plus. On my equipment, the PS5 and Xbox One S are capable of passing through DA signals via Dolby TrueHD on UHD 4K Blu-ray discs, and the Denon recognizes the Atmos soundtrack. Make sure you configure your PS5 and Xbox One S correctly to output Bitstream for sound output. For the Xbox One S this is easy. For the PS5, it’s more complicated. Firstly, check your Sound output is set to AV Amplifier (not TV nor soundbar), then choose 7.1 speaker set-up, and Dolby (not DTS nor PCM). Next, on the Blu-ray disc menu, set Language output to Dolby Atmos, and finally, whilst playing the disc, go to the Options Disc Menu and select Audio output as Bitstream instead of PCM. You should get Atmos sound. You can confirm the 7.1 signal by pressing the Info button on the Denon remote which displays the source signal (i.e. Atmos via Dolby TrueHD or Atmos via Dolby Digital Plus). You can also get Atmos sound for Games and Netflix/Disney Plus/Amazon Prime Video streams via the Xbox One S (but sadly not the PS5 due to licencing issues), but note that this is via compressed Dolby Digital Plus. To my surprise, the Denon was able to recognise this difference between compressed and uncompressed signals. The Amazon Firestick 4K Max (connected to the Media Player HDMI port with power supplied by the front USB port) also outputs Dolby Atmos sound via Dolby Digital Plus; make sure you configure the Sound settings correctly on the Firestick in Settings (choose Dolby Digital Plus, not Best Available). You should be able to stream programmes in Atmos (numerous in Netflix and Disney, a few in Amazon Prime; I’ve not come across any on Apple TV). For non-Atmos sound signals (e.g. Dolby Digital 5.1 or stereo), the Denon can make use of your additional front height or ceiling speakers via the Dolby Surround or DTS Neural X. The sound is not as discrete nor convincing as a true Dolby Atmos stream but at least you'll get sound from your 6th and 7th speakers. For those with 5.1 (or less) speaker set ups, you can use Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer or DTS Virtual X for sound transmitted in Dolby or DTS stereo/5.1, to virtually create sound from virtual height speakers Moving onto music. I listen to high-definition music (streamed via Qobuz and Tidal) and I have dedicated stereo systems in other rooms for this, using pre and power amps and floorstanding speakers. The Denon does a remarkable job in reproducing music (especially in analogue when connected to am external DAC). It’s far superior to the Yamaha RVX-6A in this regard. The DAC for music in stereo is fine, but clearly inferior to external DACs used with dedicated stereo amps. I suspect most people who buy this will only use it for music occasionally; its main strength is in its 7.1 UHD 4K HDR AV capabilities. Overall, I’m extremely happy and satisfied with the Denon, which has exceeded my expectation. I’m also very pleased with the service from Richer Sounds (i.e. Felix), who went beyond the call of duty in providing advice during and after the purchase. I would highly recommend the Denon.

I was ready to upgrade this year and my price range was higher than before...but still under $1K. This was a steal at the refurb price. I gained wireless capabilities, a phono input and Atmos decoding when compared to an old, reliable Onkyo that I bought used from craigslist.I love having a wifi control web page and an app on my phone. I have a couple of nice bluetooth over-the-ear headsets and it is so fun for me to spin records on my turntable and listen as I move around the house doing various tasks. Most importantly, the setup was easy and I've been able to tweak the levels of my speaker setup so that it sounds perfect to me. It did a great job in my room although being the tinkerer I made some minor tweaks through the fairly simple menu system. The tweaking is extensive too - levels, distance and individual low frequency cross-over settings too - so it should work with basically any speaker set.It goes loud enough for me - the volume range is 0 to 98 but I haven't had it over 70.. yet. One thing though is that it seems to get rather warm which is a little disconcerting because the amp is tucked away inside a unit with doors to the front. But no problems so far.So multi-channel cinema is all good, but I was also happy when I played music through the 2700H - very listenable, crisp but not overly bright. I paired the amp with some used but still good Kef Egg speakers (and sub) which can be bright but I think the amp stops them from sounding shrill. So in summary - very good amp, and good value too.
I bought this to replace a broken 7.1 system, recycling my Cambridge speakers and Wharfedale sub. The product was purchased to connect a 4K TV, Xbox Series X, Windows 10 PC 4K, Fire TV 4K and our own Video/Picture/Music collection on Emby Server (on a ReadyNAS) which we stream via an Emby app on the FireTV stick. Now all our content sounds as good as it looks, with superb picture quality and stonking audio quality. Setup was an absolute doddle, i quickly connected all the speaker cables and chose all the settings intuitively without needing to use the wizard. However, the product includes an onscreen wizard that makes it extremely simple for first timers. I guess the sound quality depends on the speakers and sub you connect, but attach decent speakers and this product is outstanding whether playing music in 7.1 or movies with Dolby Surround. There's not really much to dislike, but if pushed i'd say that one of the apps "HEOS" is pretty lame when it comes to streaming audio from your phone. I haven't found a way to BT to the AVR, so i could use VLC on my phone. So far, ive only been able to stream from the phone using the HEOS app. Everything seems to work quite well, except super-frustratingly, when you use the HEOS app to browse your music library on your phone (on a SDXC card), it ignores the tags and will only list the tracks in an album alphabetically, meaning you can't just hit play or queue for it to play/queue the tracks in the right order. This might not affect you if you are using spotify or something like that (we dont use it) and if you are playing albums with singles on, where the track order is immaterial. However, if you are playing albums that are mixed... like House, Trance, Drum & Bass, then it is essential that the media player app displays tracks using the Track# tag. Fortunately, we intended to use Emby to stream our music which does not have the design flaw like the HEOS app.We ordered the AVR-X2700H from Richer Sounds because we need to stop buying everything on Amazon and support the high street, but after ordering our TV from Richer Sounds in March and getting a great deal and excellent service, it was an easy choice to buy from them again. I highly recommend the Denon AVR-X2700H and highly recommend Richer Sounds.
Physical set-up was easy. Installed with a 5.1 Klipsche surround system. However, once powered on for the first time the pleasant experience quickly faded away into frustrating, non-sensical and clunky software set-up experience that left me wondering if one of the HDMI ports is actually broken on delivery along with a confused Denon firmware that also thinks a properly wired Klipsche center channel speaker is phase reversed when it actually doesn't appear to be so (so the calibration process continually gets an error). My set up is fairly non-complicated: just 5.1 speakers hardwired, a ps4 and 2019 LG C9 OLED. We're using high quality and high speed HDMI cable w/ethernet.After everything plugged in, first boot would not show the Denon set-up on the TV and we ... MorePhysical set-up was easy. We're using high quality and high speed HDMI cable w/ethernet.After everything plugged in, first boot would not show the Denon set-up on the TV and we could not get it to without 4 hours of trial and error and fiddling in the TV menus and changing HDMI ports. I first attempted to plug in the ps4 into the "game" HDMI port "in" on the Denon receiver and the Denon ARC out to the TV's HDMI port 2 (ARC). Every time I selected the Denon device through TV HDMI 2 port (where it was plugged in) it auto started the ps4, but no video from ps4 passed through Denon, nor any audio. The Denon software set-up screen also did not appear on the TV.The solution was multifaceted. Updated Denon firmware and verified TV firmware was updated. Then plug the PS4 into ANY other HDMI port than the officially labeled "game" HDMI port (which appears to be faulty - not fully faulty because CEC on TV can still trigger the PS4 to turn on, just not provide video or sound passthrough) on the Denon. Then turn off the C9s CEC option for HDMI. Then change the C9 TV's audio out for HDMI to passthrough and turn eARC on.After getting video to the TV for the Denon set up, calibration was a breeze other than having a non-sensical error regarding our center channel phase that was confirmed to be wired properly. We have a friend with a Denon AVR-x2600H and he has the same issue with Klipsche center channel, so something about Denon receivers and Klipsche center channels don't play nice. After getting everything set up, audio through ps4 still wouldn't auto switch from stereo to any of the supported surround options. We had to change the HDMI setting to "enhanced." Once set to enhanced, the ps4 sent proper surround audio to the receiver.None of the above was explained in any detailed user manual and none of it was explained by Denon's troubleshooting pages and none of it was explained by online tutorials. We literally just had to figure it out by HOURS of frustrating trial and error. We still have the issues of the center channel confusion on the Denon/Kipsche center channel and non-video and non-audio functioning "game" HDMI input on the Denon. So most def. not a trouble free experience and user information to help is extremely sparse. My recommendation is to have a experienced home theater buff help you with Denon set-up (for those DIYers out there) and its not user friendly (the software is, but getting the software screen visible is not).Other than the issues above, our settings now seem to be holding and the audio experience is fantastic. Unit might still need to be returned due to possibly malfunctioning Denon HDMI game port input (#5) however, which is extremely disappointing.
I purchased this receiver in May of 2022. The receiver worked well until January of 2024. The receiver did not recognize the HDMI Out port. It stopped playing sound from any source. I dropp led it off to BestBuy and supposedly it was shipped from the repair center on 01/31/2024. I still have not received the item. The employees keep saying it is in Transit. It has been 24 days. I enjoyed it while it worked. It was awesome and it sounded like a theater. Now, no one knows where it is, not even customer support.
I purchased this Denon AVR-X2700H receiver after receiving a defective Yamaha receiver, which I returned for an Onkyo receiver, which was also Defective. Returned it and gave the Onkyo a 2nd chance and ordered another one. It was also defective (what are the odds of getting 3 defective receivers in a row??). I ended up ordering this Denon receiver directly from Denon, got a fantastic price with an additional $50 discount (January, 2023) . Maybe they are coming out with a newer model? In any event, this receiver is phenomenal! Super easy setup. They automatic surround sound programming is the best of any receiver I've owned (about 8 over the past 15 or so years). The features included with this receiver are amazing. The sound is outstanding through my in ceiling Klipsch speakers and floor standing Klipsch sub woofer. I'm super impressed with everything about this receiver.
Previously owned a Denon AVR-1812 that performed well for 10 years until the AMP died. Chose the Denon AVR-X2700H for it's robust features and my previous Denon experience. This X2700H has been a complete disappointment and it's primarily due to the horrible firmware that does not properly support 4K HDR pass through. I use a 4K Apple TV as my primary source and my monitor is a 4K LG OLED55C9AUA (4K/60Hz) with all equipment connected via the expensive Blueberry HDMI 4K/8K 18Gbps cables.HDMI upon connection upon power-up is unstable. When the system is powered on the Denon AVR frequently does not restore the connection to the Apple TV and my monitor displays the 'No Source' screen resulting in the requirement to manually change the source to my BD and then back to Apple TV.HDMI consistent connectivity is unstable. Even when connected to Apple TV the Denon AVR will often lose the HDMI connection showing No Source' on the monitor however restoring itself within 1-2 seconds going from the 'No Source' screen to black screen and eventually back to the Apple TV source content. I've also had Apple TV HDMI source drop outs when switching between APPs or programs.Overall this problem has now gotten much worse with the Apple TV consistently flickering on and off to a black screen randomly at anywhere from 4 to 9 second intervals.Contacted Denon support and the advisor was ill prepared to assist me as I had to explain the HDMI issue multiple times. He first blamed the Apple TV and I told him I had connected the Apple directly to my monitor before I called Denon support and bypassing the Denon AVR resolved the issue. Then he blamed the monitor stating it was incompatible or had the wrong settings. I told him I had also contacted LG and they remotely connected to my monitor and checked all the settings with all settings reported okay. The Denon advisor then left the line to consult with technical advisors only to return and tell me I need to buy an EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) device to resolve 'HDMI Handshake' issues? EDID is a ~$65.00 device you can purchase on Amazon. My question to the Denon advisor was "are you telling me I have to purchase another device to make your $900.00 AVR actually work?" He replied yes?? I may try the EDID but my principles get in my way. Why can't Denon acknowledge these 4K HDR AVR's are not ready for prime time and get a firmware update issued? I have seen this issue in other Denon AVR reviews. In my desire to stick with my previously trusted Denon brand expecting a resolution during more than a month of troubleshooting I am now stuck with this worthless 'high end' Denon as I have now exceeded my return period with Best Buy. My regret is that I did not wise up earlier and just return the unit for a refund. I may go in and plead for mercy and hope for some Best Buy good will.
