I got this Dewalt orbit sander for my birthday. I specifically wish for this tool because we are in a process of renovating a cottage and this tool helps me alot. This sander is very easy to control, very powerful and feels good on the hands when using it. The weight is manageable, not noisy tool and it even has a small dust collector bag that can be attach to it. I love that it has a speed control that is very helpful. The only downside is, it does not come with sand paper pad. I think only one piece is included so if you have a big project you'll have to buy sand paper pad separately other than that it is a great machine it does work pretty well!.

Dewalt. Great little palm sander for finishing touches. If your are going to be doing heavy sanding use a sander. I have been a Dewalt Fan since I got married and my dad made sure I had a 4pc Dewalt Kit Jobsite Radio to Match. He wanted me to have quality tools since so was a newlywed 1st time home owner. Dewalt has only gotten better over the last 20 years. The batteries have gotten smaller lighter but the have 60x more power. They make high quality products that preform and are super durable and quality. It’s worth the money to have quality tools. Yeah you can buy much cheaper tools at Harbor Freight that have a “lifetime” warranty. So that means you will be spending you valuable DIY saturdays in line returning a junk power tool for a new one that will last ten ... MoreDewalt. Great little palm sander for finishing touches. This Dewalt orbital 5" sander is hands down FOR SURE THE BEST ORBITAL SANDER ON THE PLANET EARTH!! I've owned this exact orbital sander for over 7+ years now and I've done countless sanding jobs from fiberglass objects to plastic motorcycle parts I've painted to drywall jobs and not forgetting a House Of Kolor brand utmost expensive paint job on my own truck, which could not have been completed without this utmost perfect sander! That paint job turned out flawless thanks to Dewalt! This sander still has had zero malfunctions still to this current date with very little wear and tear on the sandpaper hook and loop pad because I've always been NOT ROUGH, AND NOT BABYING IT EITHER!

Using for cabinet door frames and panels. Very strong hold on Velcro pads. Can’t imagine how some reviewers are able to make the pads come loose. I have sanded 3/4” edges up to flat surfaces putting a fair amount of force on the sander with no problems. Seems strong for 3 amps and will remove a lot of material with 40 grit. Dust collector works fine but has to be emptied every thirty minutes or so. I have used continuously for an hour or so with no noticeable heating of the motor. Couldn’t be happier with the tool.
This sander is perfect for so many projects. I first bought it to sand the corners and edges of an oak floor I was refinishing. It’s so smooth and easy to hold on to - that surprised me because it seems that most tools are designed for a man’s hand, not comfortable for a woman’s hand. But this sander fit my hand perfectly. There is no bucking with it, just smooth sanding. It’s easy to put a little extra pressure on it when needed. And the dust catcher works so well!!
The speed control is nice, but this sander is not the best. I expect a lot more from Dewalt. The dust collector bag is kind of useless. Never collects much of anything, the sander just spews dust everywhere. It's also not very gentle when you first touch it to a piece of wood. Even at lower settings, it kind of scores the wood when you put it down, whereas other sanders are more gentle. Not sure why that is.
The orbital sander itself is great. Well balanced and with good vibration dampening. A bit too high to the working surface to my taste, but that is personal. The problem is when it is time to hook it up to a vacuum system other than DeWalt's. Needed accessories are extremely expensive and whole system is very complicated and little explanation given. You end-up having to buy 2 adapters to hook-up to a common Ridgid vacuum. Ridiculous!
Purchased for a waterski refinishing project. The skis are vintage 1960-early '70's and were covered in several layers of laquer. Conventional chemical strippers would not penetrate. I used a coarse sandpaper and sucessive uses of the chemical stripper. Finally, I used fine sandpaper to restore the smooth finish to the skis. The hook and loop surface holds the sandpaper well with no creep. The dust catcher worked very will with limited dust remaining on the piece. The switch is comfortable and intuitive. Probably the best feature was the limited vibration - my hand did not go numb like the cheap junk brands I've had before. Worth the extra money for a smooth tool that will do the work without using pressure.
I've been using this random orbit sander for the last year and a half on various different projects and surfaces. It's very reliable and has done a great job. Unfortunately, I wish I had purchased the cordless version. The cord just gets in the way. Also, I had to buy the Dewalt adapter to attach to my vacuum and it's a little tough to sand while that is connected (it creates a long stiff tail off the back of the sander). Would be nice if there was a more flexible option.
Well, as a former woodworker, it has been about 10 years since Ive built anything, but The wife had a need for kitchen table, and with my sander in storage, I picked up this little number. I am currently without workshop space, so I opted to get the sander with the optional carrying bag, which is REALLY nice and keeping the house clean since sanders are the worst offenders for being messy. The bag itself isnt all that, but its great at containing the mess and giving you a space to put the sandpaper. Sander itself works perfectly. I have a lot of Makita tools and look at that sander, but the dust catcher comes off easily when being used, so I went with the Dewalt. Although I wore a dust mask while sanding, the collection system is so good that you hardly seem to need ... MoreWell, as a former woodworker, it has been about 10 years since Ive built anything, but The wife had a need for kitchen table, and with my sander in storage, I picked up this little number. I have a lot of Makita tools and look at that sander, but the dust catcher comes off easily when being used, so I went with the Dewalt. Although I wore a dust mask while sanding, the collection system is so good that you hardly seem to need it, but of course, I did wear it since its not perfect. I do prefer this sander over others because it also has the variable speed control. One thing I dont like about this sander is that the on/off button could be designed better to be easier to use, but thats a minor complaint. The switch is small and I can never remember which way to flick it since the way theyve covered it with rubber doesnt visibly show you how its oriented. Again, a minor complaint. Sanding paper attaches easily no matter the brand. Id recommend staying away from Dewalt paper since its pricey. I picked up a 100 piece variety pack by Mestool for about 1/5th to 1/10th the price of the Dewalt paper; you really cant beat that and it works perfectly fine. I hope this review was helpful. If you have any questions, just ask in the comments and Ill do my best to answer them.
