What an absolute gem of a hammer this is. I've had some lighter picks over the years, but this weight has just the right amount of inertia when it hits the rock pile. This one at 22oz seems to be the perfect weight for cracking open rocks, also the prying leverage is excellent. It's made from a solid piece of steel, so you don't have to worry about breaking the handle way back in the mountain streams. It's USA made, and as a veteran, this means a lot to me. Beginner or pro rock hounds, this is the go to hammer.

IF you need to cut brick, shape for corners and in general build anything with bricks - then this is the Hammer to use. The twin brick pillars at my driveway are fantastic due in part to this hammer. It has superb balance and great control in the hand

Blade good for digging shallow irrigation drip lines, hammer good for banging on anything that needs concentrated force. Used these for many years for breaking rocks, but this is extra heavy and good for variety of tasks

Disappointing Estwing is proud enough to stamp U.S.A. on the handle but lack the quality control any foriegn cheaper brand wouldn't miss. (See attached pictures) Although it shouldn't affect the performance and hopefully longevity of the brick hammer I can't believe someone would let this one make it to the clear coat with the way the blue chipped away from the hammer head. Appears this happened when it was pulled out from the template, or jig pattern, they are in when the blue spray coat is applied and allowed to dry. After drying this particular hammer was carelessly removed quickly which left some if that coat layer behind remaining on the template and leaving an untreated chipped away area on the hammer. Who ever is responsible for removing this one had to know what they did and instead of placing it in the defective bin they probably flipped it over and hid the damage to pass it along to someone else responsibility AKA quality control supervisor who also hid it again or was asleep when this one passed through. It's easy to see the clear coat went over this blemish and someone put the handle on it then someone put a sticker on the butt end cap "MADE IN U.S.A." That's a lot of hands and eyes on this particular hammer that either hid the damage and hoped nobody would notice or was asleep. I have alot of Estwing products and spend more money on them for the quality and one of the few, like Klein tools, that are made in U.S.A. It's a shame Estwing has lowered their standards to this level. This like all the other Estwing tools I own would have been 5 stars all day long but if corners are being cut to increase the bottom line I'm not on board anymore. My money spends anywhere and Klein tools will be in top of my searches in the future. I never cut corners, hide defects, or lie to my customers. I fix it before it's a problem and the customer never knows there was a defect because there isn't I fixed it.
Great tool for doing my masonry projects. Good quality product that does the job well.
Son found this easy to use and very effective for our fossil trip. Not necessarily the conventional use, but it worked perfectly for splitting shale stone and other rocks. Weight and balance were terrific and the blade was sharp enough.
Just carrying this hammer around i feel like I’ve gained 5 years of expertise. It’s beautiful finish with its silky swing makes it a joy to own. Setting retaining walls, pavers, and concrete forms it really comes in handy
This is now my favorite mason's hammer. Using this with pointing chisel to work on a 120+ year old brick foundation. It's the perfect tool!
Well constructed solid metal with rubber handle. Estwing quality! NOTE: this model has a pick type point, not a wide blade. For the wide blade model, choose the Estwing 24 oz model.
I purchase 3 of these each time I go to the Dominican Republic to help build houses. The houses are made of rebar and concrete block and most of the masons are using regular hammers with wooden handles. The only brick hammers I could find there have wooden handles. It is with great satisfaction when I go there even 9 years later and see them still using these hammers.
