This is my sixth Fender amp; I have a '68 Princeton Reverb, a Mustang III, and a few practice amps scattered at my relatives' houses. This is by far the most useful of all of them.My main gigs at the moment require a diverse array of sounds. This amp is perfect for that; I can dial in any sound I want, know that it sounds fantastic, and keep everything in playlists. This beats the Mustang III because of portability (that amp weighs over 36 lbs, vs 19.5 for the GTX), it has much better fx routing, and it sounds better. I was reticent to get the 50W version, but I am very glad I did. This is slightly more compact, lighter, and is still louder than I would ever need.In performances, I keep this amp pointed at me as my monitor. For rehearsals, it is plenty loud enough ... MoreThis is my sixth Fender amp; I have a '68 Princeton Reverb, a Mustang III, and a few practice amps scattered at my relatives' houses. For rehearsals, it is plenty loud enough and when we go back to playing small venues, this will be enough without going through the PA.When we are bringing our own PA, I sometimes feed my monitor mix through the AUX in and run the GTX to the board through a DI on the FX loop out. This is my one irritation with the GTX; I wish that the aux signal were not routed through the XLR outs, or that it were switchable. When reading through reviews about this amp, there is still a lot of talk about tube vs modeling amps, and how they stack up. I am mystified by these threads. Using tube amps for their overdriven sounds means cranking them up to ungodly volumes. This is only applicable in studio settings or for extremely loud genres. With the GTX, I can dial in any kind of sound I want, pre-program the volume I would like to have it, and switch between settings with a single footswitch. One moment I can be playing a cutting funk riff on a Twin, and the next moment, play some distantly growling power chords on a Marshall stack. Why would I want a tube amp?In short, this is the best setup imaginable for the type of gigs I do. Plug and play done right.

This amp has all the great Fender amp models and while I have never owned or had time with the originals, I am extremely happy with the sound that comes from of all the Fender models. With the guitar plugged in, the tones are very pleasing, from the crispy clean tones of the Twin Reverb to the warm tones of the Deluxe to the crunchy tones of Champ. Very little dialing in required to get a great tone. The non-Fender models did not sound as good to me. I probably use the M/B Mark IIC the most rather than any other model. However, with a GFX unit plugged in, you have to be careful not to overdrive the input or the tones become brittle with an unpleasant buzz and harmonic. I expect this is true for any digital amp modeller, but is more noticeable in this one due to the great tones this amp already gives without any FX units in front. Without the right input signal and tweaking of the FX unit, the tone will only get worse.Functionally, things are not as great. I encountered some issues such as1. Bluetooth connection to phone app will not discover the amp and requires me to switch on the amp twice for some reason. It always seems to find the amp after the second time.2. The Master volume knob is digital. Thus, it increases the volume in increments rather than a smooth ramp. This is a problem if you are trying to get very low volumes. It jumps from a level of too quiet to just a bit louder than you need as you tweak the knob.3. Bluetooth can interfere with a digital wireless system. Either the mobile app wont work or the wireless system wont work.None of these are deal breakers. And for the Fender amp tone modelling it does provide, I am happy with it. If they provided the digital brains of this amp as a GFX foot unit or even a rack unit, I'd sell all my other gear to buy it.I do wish they would continue with more updates, but it seems there is no further development being done on this. The last firmware update was in May 5th 2020.

Purchased this at the recommendation of a sales associate when I was looking at the Fender Champ 50xl. The GTX50 had great mod settings, I appreciated the on board tuning and the app customization but had a fatal flaw. The bluetooth and wireless function intermittently. While you can still use any programmed setting you will have to dial through possibly 100 settings to find it. Also the save feature in the menu would not allow me to save a new bluetooth name. I am highly capable with electronics and computers and this in my impression was either a firmware or hardware issue. I found that I am not the only one that came across this connectivity problem and there is no 100% fix as of yet that I could find online nor with Fender. Fender has a great product on their hands in the GTX50 if they correct the connectivity issues. I just dont want to wait and hope.

Overall:So I bought this due to the convenience of it. I wanted to stop with having a dozen pedals and modelling amps seem to have come a long way. And for a bedroom player, the volume and sound aren't much to complain about. [and sound of all the effects and multiple amp/cab combos aren't that bad either]. I can definitely get a decent tone from the combinations I choose or the presets already made.BUTI hate this amplifier. Without the tone app, it is NOT easy to use/customize your own presets, and even altering presets is not intuitive at all. And Tone app NEVER connects to the amp. I got it updated [huge pain in itself to accomplish], and the Bluetooth connectivity is absolutely horrendous. It says on the app to maintain a distance of 3ft from the amp for connectivity [ridiculous in itself to be hovering over the amp constantly when you're adjusting or creating effects], but it takes 10 minutes of trial and error WITH MY PHONE SITTING ON THE AMP, for it to finally connect. But God forbid I forget to maintain 3ft of distance and it disconnects, only for me to restart the process. Also, the effects are a terrible rabbit hole, more of a con than a pro for me. I found myself playing with effects more than actually playing the guitar and I'm generally just dissatisfied at the end of every "session" I try having with it.Quality is getting 2 stars because the amp itself it up to standard, but the almost necessary connectivity to the Tone app is basically a failure on Quality Control. There shouldn't be a [useless] FAQ section for connectivity issues the same day the amp is released. It's sort of like this video game comparison: play western RPG games for a few months [Skyrim, Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma, etc], and then switch to playing japanse RPG games.. the difference is insane; you get flooded with all kinds of things you can do pretty much right away, but your direction is constantly being thrown off due to exactly that.Great idea, terrible execution. I'm going back to a traditional set up - a simple but nicer tube combo amp and a pedal board. You can't beat it for an enthusiastic bedroom player.
First off, I own some of the biggest, heaviest, tube amps (Marshall, Mesa Boogie), and yes, I can play well! But sometimes I don't want to work my back overtime packing up for jam sessions and such. I bought this amp because it is light weight, BUT, I get very respectable tones and playablity! I am NOT saying this beats my Mesa, but I am saying I love this amp and am proud to shred and pound out sonic art with it! Thanks Fender! Well Done! Oh, and I really like the ability to overview things via my cell phone! Very happy!
Crazy good amp. I toiled over this decision for months considering this amp, the Spark amp and the Katana MK. I am so glad I chose this amp. I have had it for 3 days and have only put down my guitar to work. Right now, I am listening to apple music through it using the bluetooth feature. This amp covers all the bases - plenty of power to gig but subtle enough for home use, attractive cabinet and modern look, controls are easy to read and use, 200 amp presets - yes 200 presets and the Fender Tone app takes this amp to another level. This is a capable tool for any musician at any experience level. Sound is outstanding and provides clarity at low volume levels which was important to me since I am a home user. This is a capable tool for any musician at any experience level. Sound is outstanding and provides clarity at low volume levels which was important to me since I am a home user. What I like best is the opportunity to get sounds that are only obtained through pedal having no intention of spending the kind of money that it would take to sample sounds from the pedal tones provided in the presets or the app. That being said, a purist could argue (with merit) that digital sound is not the same, but for me, that debate goes into the "who cares" category.Since I am a believer that nothing is perfect, if I have to speak of an issue, it would probably be that the display screen is tiny and making any adjustments to the digital "pedal" is best done through your ipad, iphone, or other device. The screen is just too small for me. The other thing I guess would be that proper setup (wifi and bluetooth) is a little tricky and takes about 15-20 minutes (using the selector button to type your wifi password is rough waters), but wait it out - proper setup and being able to use wifi and bluetooth is worth it! Have fun with your new GTX and ROCK ON!
The good news is the Fender presets, particularly the clean ones. Pretty much the whole Fender range is available. The more overdriven sounds seem fizzy, like a bad multi-effects pedal I used to know. But you can adjust the effects and clean stuff up. This brings us to the bad news, and the bad news is really awful. It's the Bluetooth connectivity. You keep having to redo it and redo it. Your amp says the Bluetooth is on. Your phone says it can't connect. Then the phone says you are connected, but you're not. Aside from regularly refusing to connect, it also causes the amp to cut off and on. (According to some of the many, many people who are discussing this problem online, this is due to the Wifi interfering with the Bluetooth.) (According to some of the many, many people who are discussing this problem online, this is due to the Wifi interfering with the Bluetooth.) The manuals are not particularly helpful on this. This spotty app connectivity and the amp flickering off and on would be a nightmare in a professional situation, like a live show or studio time on the clock. "Scuse me, ladies and gents, while I tinker with the *x?/!!* phone, download a firmware update, and then tinker some more."The work-around is: Use the WiFi AT HOME to periodically update the firmware, and use the Bluetooth AT HOME to place your favorite presets at the top of the list. Otherwise, outside the house, turn off the Bluetooth and Wifi.I ended up using only the Fender clean presets. For overdrive and distortion, connect pedals to the amp input. For reverb and such, wire these pedals into the effects loop. I can tell you right now, first time out with this amp, at a large club in Manhattan, I will be using mostly the Fender Deluxe presets, a PackRat at the front end, and a Blue Sky Reverb in the loop.DO NOT TRY TO GIG USING THE APP. Once you have the presets where you want them, turn all that *x?/!!* off.
Truth be told I purchased this amp by accident. I had just traded a Supro Delta King on a Katana 50 to avoid buying pedals to make the Supro work. Bad choice, the Supro is an excellent amp but the reverb is weak, at least to my ear, the Katana 50 has many sound choices but not my choices. The Katana is, to my ear, a very dark sounding amp that kept me from finding a good clean jazz type sound. I returned the Katana and as I was leaving the store I saw the Fender GTX 50. I am older and amp weight is important to me, I easily picked it up, it only weighs 19 pounds. After talking with the sales person, I decided to try it. Here is the problem! Trying to connect this amp to wifi/bluetooth was an adventure. I was ready to return the amp but decided to continue working with it and finally it connected and completed the up date. The amp offers many very good and different sounds that are extremely useful. It does this at a very good price point. Modeling amps can only do so much to capture the sounds of great tube amps so remember that when you buy. I found that for me this amp was much easier to use than the Katana and sounded much better also. I really like the amp. It sounds very good to me but sound is a very subjective thing. If you want a very good sounding amp (my ear) for practice or small venues, you should check this amp out. I think that it is a winner!
Purchased this amp about a year ago based on employee recommendation after being less than impressed by Blackstar and Boss modeling amps. Beyond some initial hiccups with bluetooth connection, the amp has worked without issue. It has bcome my go-to home amp for guitar and bass since my Roland JC77, Vox AC4, Gallien Krueger 400RB, and Ampeg G18 all lack headphone jacks. The range of amps available is impressive, with the Twin Reverb being a real standout. The selection of modeled stompboxes is good too, even sneaking the classic Butler Tube Driver in there. The 7 button footswitch really opens up amp utility, allowing access to the built in looper and ability to switch individual effects on/off without changing preset. Beyond some initial hiccups with bluetooth connection, the amp has worked without issue. The 7 button footswitch really opens up amp utility, allowing access to the built in looper and ability to switch individual effects on/off without changing preset. Like any amp, it plays better with some guitars and pedals than others but it's a great complement to a traditional amp collection. It would be a great amp for a new guitarist if that's not the type to be overwhelmed by options. Overall I'd buy this amp again and will definitely be keeping it around.
I purchased the Fender Mustang GTX50 several weeks ago at my local Guitar Center and wanted to work with it for a few weeks before doing a review of this modeling combo amplifier.First off, what do I love about this amp!1- Great sound and a ton of great sounding amp models.2- Very easy to understand control layout and anything you don't understand is covered in pretty good detail in the online manual.3- The 12" Celestron speaker is awesome though I haven't really pushed it yet, as about 50% volume is about my limit in the room, I play in.4- The process of connecting to my router and the web was very easy.5- The fact that it is easy to update the software and hopefully it continues to be updated for many years to come.6- That Fender and the online community ... MoreI purchased the Fender Mustang GTX50 several weeks ago at my local Guitar Center and wanted to work with it for a few weeks before doing a review of this modeling combo amplifier.First off, what do I love about this amp!1- Great sound and a ton of great sounding amp models.2- Very easy to understand control layout and anything you don't understand is covered in pretty good detail in the online manual.3- The 12" Celestron speaker is awesome though I haven't really pushed it yet, as about 50% volume is about my limit in the room, I play in.4- The process of connecting to my router and the web was very easy.5- The fact that it is easy to update the software and hopefully it continues to be updated for many years to come.6- That Fender and the online community provide tons of great sounding models and setups to get the sound you like. What could be better!1- My only real problem and it now seems to matter a little less with time, is connecting it to the Bluetooth, and that was really aggravating for the first few days. I have many Bluetooth enabled items in my home, and that I interact with every day with my phone, TV, computer, vehicles, stereo, and Fender Micro Mustang and they are all awesome and require nothing but turning on the Bluetooth and plug and play. The Mustang GTS50 took me two days to finally understand the sequence and hoops I have to jump through to connect and get Bluetooth to talk between the GTX50 and either my computer or my phone.2- There is a major lag when trying to play along with Bluetooth with backing tracks from either the phone or computer, yet no lag with the Micro Mustang.3- The problem with the lag is known by Fender and hopefully this concern and the connection process will be addressed in a firmware update in the future.Note: As a work around for the Bluetooth streaming from a computer or phone and avoiding all the lag issues just connect a USB to 3.5mm cable to the AUX port on the GTX50 and have fun.Would I recommend this amplifier? Yes, even with the Bluetooth issues it is a great sounding amplifier.
