A stylish watch that doesn't feel or look cheap. I have been using this watch for around 3 weeks now it came with a metal strap which did add to the weight of the item and I wasn't too comfortable with the metal strap but luckily the watch will allow you to use a generic 22mm watchstrap so I was able to swap it out for nylon watch strap with ease. The watch was easy to setup using the WearOS app on my android phone. I found the preset watch face a bit basic in terms of information it gave but found it easy to change the watch face for one I prefer simply by holding my finger on the watch face for a few seconds which then brings up a selection screen with different watch screen styles. Their is also a much larger choice of watch faces available on the Google play store.Their are a wide range of sensors built in which allow me to monitor my heart rate as well as my blood oxygen levels (although its disappointing that the blood oxygen levels is a manual feature and not automatic like on other brands). I found the sleep tracking to be very accurate which gives me an insight into my sleep pattern and the phases of sleep I am in.My only criticism is if you want the heart rate monitoring as well as all the other smart features you will be lucky to get a day of battery life out of the watch. Once my watch reached 10% it automatically goes into battery saving mode and the smart features stop working. However it should be noted charging is very easy with this watch and does charge the watch up to 80% in around 30 minutes. I find I charge up my watch at least twice a day as I want to make use of the sleep tracking through the night.Overall I am happy with my watch I just wish it had a bigger battery so I could get a full day of use out of it without having to do a top up charge.

Fossil product is good, Android Wear not so..

As usual, Fossil have produced a quality product from a physical perspective. Looks and feels premium and made of good material. I guess in line with a "traditional" watch, the buttons are on the right of the face. It would've been nice to have some kind of "soft" buttons that could be configured to be on either side of the watch. Strap is comfortable, although not sure it's a watch I'd be happy to wear whilst sleeping.Aesthetically, lots of watch faces to choose from with various amounts of interaction and functionality. You'll be sure to find something you like!Unfortunately the sofware installed, Android Wear, is showing it's age a little. I believe a "big" update to Wear OS 3.0 is supposed to be happening next year but, given that this release is already out, then it's disappointing that it's not available on the Fossil yet. This would bring better integration to the fitness area (through Fitbit app), one of the main gripes I have against current Android Wear. However, Wear OS is pretty responsive, although note that it seems to need some time to fully get going! First hour or so of using the watch was pretty bad, but presumably it was still "setting things up" whilst I was using it. After this, all was good and overall a pleasant experience. Most of the key points of a smart watch work well, although obviously tied better to an Android phone than other manufacturers. Lots of applications on Android have native Wear OS compatibility, or can work with Wear OS through notifications.NFC is very welcome, allowing various payments to be performed through the watch; very convenient and saves on having to take your phone out of your pocket or use cash/card.Biggest downside is the battery life. Two days seems to be about the maximum. If you're used to taking your watch off at night then I guess not a big deal to charge overnight. However, I like to wear a watch 24x7 and this is just not practical with this watch. You need to be prepared to charge and, if going away for any length of time, take the charger. So overall, a great product but partly let down by the softare and battery life. Hopefully Wear OS 3 (when it arrives) will improve things a little but I wouldn't expect the battery life to increase all that much.

It is just showing one screen with the banner of 'coming soon'.4. I just had to install third-party apps to get more watch faces as FOSSIL do not offer enough customisation options.5. Wear OS on Android phones is not really that user-friendly, only with a few basic controls. I get some feeling that FOSSIL just made the hardware and made no effort on the software side, relying solely on Google, which I believe can be improved in future updates.Summary: If you only want to go with the FOSSIL brand, go for it. However, as a techie, I am not impressed with FOSSIL GEN6 and would not recommend it at this price and with these features.

Gorgeous watch.. I want to love it more..
2 December 2021

Gorgeous, beautiful, massive!I asked for this particular watch because I've always worn a man sized watch.. I'm not 'girly' enough for anything more dainty.. but the bracelet was huge. I've had to have 4 links removed on other watches, but 5 on this one, and had the fastener moved before I could wear it.I went from a battery watch that had to be changed every two years or so, to a cheap fitness watch that needed charging once a week, to The Fossil watch, which so far had needed charging every 24hrs.. until I managed to lock myself out of it, then the battery lasted 48hrs, because it was doing nothing. The build and design of the watch is outstanding. Being able to keep track of my exercise has been extremely helpful, easy to understand too. Being able to keep track of my exercise has been extremely helpful, easy to understand too. Although this is a big watch, I really don't notice it's weight on my wrist, and the ability to change the clock face to suit my mood or the occasion is a lovely touch, and the alarm with vibrate function makes sure it wakes me up.. though I think I've done something adrift in the settings.. Twice now it's woken me up to tell me to go to sleep.I'm still getting used to all the functionality of the watch.. I've used it to pay for goods whilst out and about, answered and made calls, set alarms, managed my calendar and appointments, read emails and texts, used it for music.. but there's so much more to explore.. especially since I've had to re-pair it with my phone.. because I'd locked myself out.. I'll have to reinstall all my Apps again, and everything else.So when I've sorted it, I'll report back.I have been having a slight niggle with the magnetic charger, it attaches to the underside of the watch no bother, but needs to be jiggled a bit to get it to acknowledge it's being charged.

Improvement on the Gen 5
31 January 2022

I had reviewed the Gen 5 on the insiders and so came into this review with expectations set higher, hoping for improvements, particularly when it came to notifications, how useful they are and interactivity. The Gen 6 does not disappoint in this regard. I found notifications to be really easy to read and interact with, and the timing was also much improved than before - Google's efforts on the Wear OS front are definitely paying off. I found the suggested responses to WhatsApp messages were really spot on and actioning them was a breeze. The other key area I used a lot was to quickly manage / interact with notifications with One-Time-Passwords or apps that need me to press Yes / Approve (or otherwise) when carrying out actions that need 2 Factor Authentication. The other key area I used a lot was to quickly manage / interact with notifications with One-Time-Passwords or apps that need me to press Yes / Approve (or otherwise) when carrying out actions that need 2 Factor Authentication. In the past, this was impossible with Wear OS but now it is so straightforward! Now to one area wherein I was quite disappointed - activity tracking! I know the Fossil and brand isn't strictly supposed to be outdoorsy or anything like that, rather it is a trendy, like high-end smart-casual... still, I didn't expect such poor performance. My walks, jogs and cycling were not detected accurately at all - neither at the start nor the proper duration. Once I even wore two watches - the Gen 6 and another from a competing brand on the other wrist, just to ensure that I wasn't imagining I'd exercised longer than the Fossil was telling me, and this proved that the Gen 6 was lacking. I don't know if it is an issue with the physical sensors or the software, but if you are looking for reliable activity tracking, this isn't the watch for you.In pretty much every other way, especially when it comes to pairing your wrist accessory with going-out clothes, this is a winner. Fossil really, really know how to make quality gear when it comes to the aesthetics... the heft of the band, the way it sat on my wrist, it was all first class. So if you're not bothered about activity tracking, then for pretty much every other use-case I can think of, this is a really compelling product.

There are burn marks on it, and no longer chargers the watch. incredibly unsafe hazard that any company that cares about their products and customers would want to know about right?I again, reached out to fossil, in the hope of it being under warranty or even purchasing a new charger. It has been almost 2 weeks and I havent heard anything.small issues can happen with these products, but the awful customer service means i will no longer buy Fossil products, and am trying to sell this watch second hand.

Slick and stylish mid range smart watch
2 February 2022

Overall I was impressed with the Fossil FTW4059. Out of the box, it looks like a modern stylish dress watch that would fit in on a night out, your suit in the office and in your joggers by the TV. It's a bit fiddly to resize the strap but take it to a watch shop if you're unsure and they would have it done in no time. Pairing the watch to an android phone is quick and simple with the built-in software taking over most of the data exchange. Once you're paired, you're ready to go...almost. It was a bit annoying that once you have given access to the watch to take on your Google account, you have to then authorise every smart app individually, but once you're done, it's done. It was a bit annoying that once you have given access to the watch to take on your Google account, you have to then authorise every smart app individually, but once you're done, it's done. My main function for this watch was to keep up to date with notifications, use it in the gym and as a GPay extension. The audible chime and accompanying buzz on your wrist are hard to ignore and I'm pretty sure that you would never miss any updates. As an activity tracker, it all depends on the app that you use but the metrics and data that it collects such as your HR and O2 levels seemed pretty consistent across the various apps that need to get your vitals. It handily compiles all your data and lets you see these in charts, graphs and is available for more interrogation on your phone. As an extension to GPay, this watch is great. We went from Chip and Pin, to Contactless, to Phone and now to watch...super convenient; dangerously convenient. The battery life will easily make it through one day of moderate use (regular notifications, 1hr gym, a few GPay transactions and general procrastination) and I get the sense that with tinkering, you could make this last even longer. I was able to charge my watch fully within 90 mins whilst sitting at my desk and this would be topped up the next day. The charge speed is really impressive and you can easily get 60% in the time it takes to get ready to go out.I would like to see the watch be able to be flipped so that the face is the right way with the buttons and scroll wheel on the other side. The watch was also very sluggish when rebooted or left unworn overnight and it's almost as if the watch needs to come around in a morning but after that I found the watch to be fairly fast and responsive.Overall I like this watch and I think it makes a good mid-range starter point if you like to have a good looking watch with good functionality. It is definitely worth the money and built well.

Bluetooth 5 and NFC, 8GB of storage and 1GB od RAM, all possible sensors including spO2, the blood oxygen measurement, GPS, HRM, accelerometer altimeter compass, gyroscope, off-body IR, ambient light sensor, you name it.Performance wise it's simply ultra fast. There's not way for single glitch. The 1. 3inch AMOLED display is beautiful. Lovely vibrant colours. Pixels density is 326. For such a small screen it's absolutely great. Two programmable push buttons plus main rotating home button. The 44mm Stainless Steel case is matched with 22mm interchangeable stunning looking bracelet. It's run by Wear OS 2 which is absolutely fine. Very important fact is that due to the latest hardware configuration all Fossil Gen 6 smart watches are eligible for the update to Wear OS 3, which should landed on the beginning of 2022.All day battery life and quick new quick charge capability shouldn't disappoint anyone.Describing this smart watch in single word - stunning is most adequate in my opinion.Once the latest software update will be issued for all Gen 6 family this will make my beloved FTW4059 the best smart watch ever.

The Fossil FTW4059, a good looking smart watch.

I received this watch to write an honest an unbiased review. The watch itself looks very appealing in the image and did not disappoint when delivered. the metal strap and case are good quality and add a good weight to the watch so you know you have one on. The watch itself operates on the google wearables app and setting this up is pretty quick and easy using my IOS device. It also works alongside my other IOS based smartwatch. I have not used google wear before and it seems quite simple and plenty of settings can be changed so this gives the watch a fair amount of functions. The watch will take calls and speaker volume and microphone are ok for a small device but obviously not the same as the handset the call has come in on. What impresses me most with the watch is ... MoreI received this watch to write an honest an unbiased review. The watch will take calls and speaker volume and microphone are ok for a small device but obviously not the same as the handset the call has come in on. What impresses me most with the watch is the overall quality with the metal strap and it’s clasp. The screen also provides good resolution and downloadable screens allow you to customise the face. The only concern I have found is the ability to change font size as being slightly older without glasses reading some content is difficult. The notifications from phone have so far all worked well and I have the usual apps installed for social media and a number of smart security products all of which have notifications that display on the screen. The charger is a standard magnetic disc that locates securely on the back and doesn’t fall off easily like some versions from other manufacturers I have experienced. Buttons have standard functions and touch screen is accurate and supports swipe features. The pulse meter seems to match my other smartwatch so would assume is accurate and oxygen monitor seems to work but obviously couldn’t guarantee accuracy. So this watch in my opinion does everything competitors watches do and has the quality look, feel and weight of a more traditional watch but with the added advantage of giving all the smart features such as physical tracking, notifications from phone, take calls from watch and makes calls. The final question is value for money at £299 I would say this is the upper limit but still fair but hopefully with sales if you can pick it up for less then you are getting a good deal.

The logical step

Owning the Fossil Carlyle HR, Gen 5, I expected to have a good understanding of what I was going to be receiving, and I have to say I was neither disappointed or astounded. The Gen 6 is a step up from the previous generation, but it is not a step change. The processing time of app, and screen changes is reduced; meaning reactivity is increased and makes the use experience much better.Battery life is increased also, with a solid 20-30% battery remaining at the end of the day, whereas my Gen 5 would require recharging in the evening or would hobble to the end of the day at 10% with reduced capability. On the subject of battery, charging time is greatly reduced meaning top up charges, for when you're heading out for a late one, are much faster or provide greater ... MoreOwning the Fossil Carlyle HR, Gen 5, I expected to have a good understanding of what I was going to be receiving, and I have to say I was neither disappointed or astounded. The Gen 6 is a step up from the previous generation, but it is not a step change. On the subject of battery, charging time is greatly reduced meaning top up charges, for when you're heading out for a late one, are much faster or provide greater longevity for the same period of charging. The watch is aesthetically very pleasing, and carries a good weight to it, most of that weight however is in the bracelet. The stainless steel bracelet is well made, and the clasp is solid. Having also ordered the rubber replacement strap it was interesting to feel the weight difference and realise that the watch body is light and makes a great companion for sport.UPDATE: After further usage battery life continues to surprise me with plenty of battery left into the night. I think I was seeing increased usage the first few weeks due to wanting to play with it and see what's new.I have had a few disconnections, and freezes which is a little disappointing. However, there has been nothing a reboot hasn't resolved and I haven't fully switched it off since owning it so some little glitches are to be expected. Finally, a few people have noticed and commented on this new design and have been shocked that it is a smart watch. Which is exactly why I buy the Fossil devices, I like the unassuming design of them. On the design I was a bit concerned at first it would look a little large on my wrist but it's been fine.
