I LOVE THIS GPS watch. I had a 910XT which I liked but it couldn't upload wirelessly to my iPhone (and Garmin Connect). You had to plug an ANT stick into your computer to upload. It was horrible. The 920XT is fantastic - it wirelessly uploads to my iPhone and works well. The screen is way easier to read than either my 910XT or my Fenix 2. The Fenix 2 was horrible - text was way too small. The 920XT text is large and bright. The last thing is - my Fenix 2 was not accurate at all for distance in the woods but my 910XT and 920XT are right on. This watch also has a very long battery life compared to many other GPS watches. I can record a 10+ hour hike on the Appalachian Trail and still have plenty of battery life left. This watch is ideal if you are serious about your triathlon training. For running it gives you heart rate, distance, speed and cadence (with appropriate accessory). For swimming, it tells you distance, time per 100 meters, stroke and stroke efficiency. For biking it tells you distance, speed, cadence and power (with appropriate accessories). There is a specific triathlon mode that seamlessly records your swim, bike and run along with transition times. The addition of wifi and bluetooth automatically upload your files to Garmin Connect so you can easily and quickly analyse your data after training. There are additional apps and watch faces that you can freely download and customise. The Garmin 920xt is also attractive as an everyday watch as well. Fantastic watch.

After only 1 month I am already performing better than last years final Tri for the season... can't wait for the first race of the year to set some new PRs.

I've use this heart rate monitor for one month now. It performs as advertised. It is much more helpful than the polar HRM I used in the past. I like that measures many metrics. You can easily keep up with the basics during a training session. Afterwards, you can go over the finer ones in detail, easily, on Garmin Connect. For pool swimming, I really appreciate the automatic lap counting. The SWOLF scores are helpful with monitoring technique, so important in the swim. For cycling, I also purchased the speed and cadence sensors. I have to be reminded still to keep my cadence high. Not sure if it has any navigation features, as I haven't started uploading workouts yet, but is otherwise a complete+ cycling computer as well.Nothing needed for running. I am still early season, but will soon start adding some interval workouts. I enjoy looking at some of the other metrics, like ground contact time, vertical ratios and oscillations, etc.... Other than cadence, I'm not sure how helpful they are. The VO2 max calculation is encouraging, as mine is rising weekly, but not sure how accurate it is. I tend to believe the race predictions are overly optimistic, as I am 55 years old, and have only been training for 2 months, after a 3 year hiatus. It currently projects a 22:11 5K. Sure, I've been that fast before, 7 years ago.... Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised .Only real con for now is the easily scratched screen face. Hit it against a doorknob a left a mark the day I received it. My advice, make a screen protector for it by trimming a piece from a larger screen protector.
I've used this watch for about 3 years now for running and cycling. I don't use it for swimming. I don't use the activity (step counter) or sleep monitor, so can't speak to those.I really like it: It has all the functionality I need, and it's compact, light, and thin for this type of watch. The battery life is good for my purposes. My longest activities (rides) are about 5 hours long, and it has never run out on me, assuming it was charged up before I started.I also use the HRM-RunTM monitor chest strap and a cycling cadence sensor, but no power meter. Very occasionally there are problems connecting to a sensor or starting a Garmin Connect session on my phone, but usually this is because the watch is trying to do an upload or install an update at the same time ... MoreI've used this watch for about 3 years now for running and cycling. Very occasionally there are problems connecting to a sensor or starting a Garmin Connect session on my phone, but usually this is because the watch is trying to do an upload or install an update at the same time as I'm trying to get it started into an activity. That is, as soon as it is paired with my phone, it will initiate updates and uploads that are pending, and they can take a few minutes to do; Getting the session started sometimes doesn't work when that is happening. It provides all the information I need for training: distance, average and max speed, heart rate throughout workout and time in HR zones, upload of activity data to Garmin Connect for analysis, etc. For running, I do sometimes look at the running dynamics data and I have found it somewhat useful. Running with good technique does get reflected in the vertical oscillation and ground contact time data, but it is subtle and not really usable during the run.I like the size. I went for this model because it is thinner and lighter than the fenix. I also prefer the square screen format, and usu divide it into 4 spaces for each page I have programmed into it.It does display text messages and email receipts when connected to my phone, but the screen is really too small and button interface too clumsy to do anything with them. Essentially it amounts to notification that a message has come in and if I need to read it I stop the bike and get out my phone.Unlike other users, I've had no problems connecting via bluetooth to my phone. I've had a couple of iPhone models during this time, and it has worked fine with both of them.I also use the Garmin rubber bicycle mount kit on a road bike. No complaints about it: simple, easy to use, inexpensive, and holds the watch firmly where I can see it and easily work the function buttons.
I only use this for swimming so can't comment on the (very many) other features. I got this secondhand from ebay after my older Garmin 910 finally gave up. I considered buying a new watch but nothing could compete with the 920XT. These now sell regularly under 100 on ebay and are amazing value, nothing new in that price range comes close. From a swimmers viewpoint this has all I need. I'm a pretty decent swimmer, swimming 2K four times a week, mostly crawl but some IM. The 920 seems more accurate than other Garmin models I've owned and you can cusomise the screens to your hearts content. It does a much better job of managing intervals than my previous 910 and it's easy to see your actual total swimming time as well as your overall session time. It does a much better job of managing intervals than my previous 910 and it's easy to see your actual total swimming time as well as your overall session time. You can measure all sorts of metrics that, even as a keen swimmer, I'll probably never use. You can connect it to the Garmin app on your phone via bluetooth and see more data if that takes your fancy. You can also update the custom screens during your swim session: the older 910 forced you to end the session before you could update. The problem with the 910 was the straps only seemed to last about 10 months, the 920 strap has been redesigned so hopefully that'll be less of an issue. I also add a Garmin Swim watch a few years ago but whenthe battery went flat it all went wrong. You replace the battery yourself and afterwards it leaked: dead watch. So if you're a swimmer some kind of rechargeable is the way to go. Overall highly recommended at the price.
This is an excellent watch for runners because it vibrates every time you run a mile and it shows you your current pace, if you want to look at it. It comes highly recommended by the most experienced runners in my running club. It does not measure HR unless the HR belt is on, unlike the Fitbit HR which measures that from the wrist. I have not used any of the belts yet. The sleep measurement is only accurate if you synchronize it as soon as you wake up. Otherwise, it counts being in bed and reading as sleeping frequently and overstates the hours. The Fitbit HR is more accurate and for this and the wrist HR, I will probably continue wearing both devices. I also wear my iPhone while running with the app Cyclemeter which gives a few more parameters like temp and climate ... MoreThis is an excellent watch for runners because it vibrates every time you run a mile and it shows you your current pace, if you want to look at it. I also wear my iPhone while running with the app Cyclemeter which gives a few more parameters like temp and climate during the run. The times for average pace per mile for a run are very close overall between the 920XT and the Cyclemeter, but the splits usually differ by 5 to 10 seconds. Not sure which one is more accurate, but I hope it is the 920XT. The 920XT also comes with an app which will display the information in a far more readable summary than could ever be displayed on the phone. That app does make logging daily weight a bit cumbersome as you have to flip through several screens to find the input, whereas a link to theweight input is on the home page of the Fitbit app. The watch face is rather large and thick, but so far, it does fit under most of my long sleeve shirts OK. I think a smaller face and thinner body would be an improvement that maybe they will do. I have been using this for about 3 weeks and am still learning on it. These are my initial impressions.
I have been using my 920xt for 6 months, using to train for triathlons, open water swimming races, and road running races.I've been a garmin user for a few years now owning a 310xt and a 910xt before this. I have noticed with running and cycling the gps is much better, virtually no wait to find a signal. It seems to to keep a signal well even on trails as well. GPS signal for the open water swimming is better than the 910xt only when your actually swimming, if resting and treading water you'll loose the signal. Indoor swimming metrics are much like the 910xt for pool swims except now they added a rest screen for intervals with is nice and a drill timer to keep data more consistent. Indoor running is a nice feature as well, no extra foot pod required. Your cadence is still recorded using the included HRM-Run (indoor and outdoor). Metronome feature is great also, the beep or vibe is frequency customisable.I have never been able to pair my smartphone with the watch, the phone is listed by garmin's support as recognized to be able to connect. It apears to be connected sometimes by Bluetooth but it never works. I could go without it anyways.Creating workouts (besides intervals) must be done on Connect Garmin and transferred to the watch. Unlike the 310xt or 910xt where workouts could be created on the fly.The wireless data sync also has issues. at first it was working great, as soon as I came home data would transfer on its own. Now it seems like every other week it doesn't work and I'm required to plug in the watch to transfer the data. This is annoying. With my experience with the watch the smartphone and WiFi features are useless. It does its job well as a triathlon sports watch. but if you don't need the smartwatch features look elsewhere.
If you are into fitness and exercise and you're looking for a smart watch with GPS to monitor your activities and motivate you to act, the Garmin Forerunner 920XT is a fantastic choice. It is a complex instrument offering numerous useful options available at the push of a button, and they all work together flawlessly. The learning curve for using the watch may be a bit steep because the user manual glosses over some details forcing you into some trial and error effort. However, in addition to the on-line user manual, there are a various Youtube instruction videos available to help you get the most out of the 920XT. The accompanying Quick Start Manual will help get you up and running in short order.I found the 920XT to be big but comfortable (light weight) and quite handsome (in my opinion). Wearing it all day to track your activity is no problem; wearing it through the night to track sleep is comfortable, too. The watch has options for changing its face, which is large (easy to read--love it) with great contrast and resolution so you can easily see your real-time workout data while exercising. The backlight can be switched on when working out at night or in a dimly lit environment. You easily customize the various data screens such as heart rate, calories burned, and time to fit your needs. You can turn GPS on or off. With GPS off or used infrequently, a single battery charge can last up to a week or more. Battery storage and duration are quite amazing. Although the 920XT offers standard workout programs for swimming, running, cycling, and triathlon training, it also allows you to compose your own unique training activity whether strength, cardio, or other. The heart rate monitor (I have the "Run" version) is comfortable and accurate. You can conveniently pair your smartphone (Android or iPhone) with the 920XT via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to receive email, news and other notifications.I have been analyzing and building up a valuable history of health/activity through the Garmin Connect fitness network in connection with the 920XT. So useful. Awesome. And Garmin provides support and updates for the 920XT on a continuous basis.
For the serious triathlete that wants to analyze metrics on just about every aspect of their training. I purchased this watch over the fenix3 because of the sportier design and the lighter weight. The only fuinction that I have found the fenix 3 to have that the 920xt does not have is an internal barometer. However, the 920xt does have weather apps that can be downloaded and topographical apps that can be down loaded. I also like that the 920xt also has the triathlon quick release included. Upon bike to run transition, the device can be unsecured from the bike and resecured to the wrist strap that stays on the athletes wrist. This allows you to cycle with the device in easy view without having to turn your wrist to view it much like a bike computer. Find me another system that allows you to do that. The tri-bundle also includes a swim HRM and a triathlon HRM. The swim HRM fits snug without slipping down the body even when flip turning in a pool. The triHRM will allow you to swim as well but is prone to sliding down the body when flip turning in a pool.Unlike a lot of other triathlon "computers" the 920xt also provides the user with unparalleled metrics to gauge training and race progress. Some of the more notable metrics are the SWOLF count, cycle cadence, cycle power meter display, VO2 max, and run-vertical-oscillation.What makes this device more unique that any other brand is that the user can actually download apps much like an iphone or android device. Such apps can help you locate your car, perform geocaching functions, read topographical altitude, and change watch face styles.Unlike the older 910, the 920 can be used as watch and personal device that allows the user to read text messages, emails, and even facebook updates. The watch will also signal when phone battery is low. With the activity meter on, the device will track steps with a step counter. Step goals can also be changed as well as other traning goals. The race predictor does a decent job of calculating race times based upon the previous training output history. The 920xt easily can be synced with nike run, map my run, and other training types apps especially STRAVA. The watch automatically updaters the strava app on the phone and allows you to edit posts as necessary. The 920xt is thought to come in 2 colors but it actually comes in 3. There is the blk/blu, white/red, and black/gray. the black and gray only comes with the tribundle for people that want a watch that has the ability to be used in a more professional work environment. It seems to throw a lot of other triathletes off when they are trying to figure out what watch you have on, but do not see the typical blue trim found on most 920xt models. There are different color aftermarket straps that can be purchased online. I have even pondered what a white 920 with a black strap might look like but I opted for the tri bundle. The watch has been proven to be very durable at it has sustained a couple bike crashes and even stayed on my wrist while I have worked on cars and done some light home remodeling. I have only taken the watch down to a depth of 10 feet in the pacific ocean and it has been able to sustain that pressure. triathletes do not have to go any deeper.blue tooth signal reception is very strong as I have left my phone in another room of the house and still received updates on my watch. GPS signal is also acquired approximately 30 seconds. The longest the watch has ever taken to connect with GPS is about 100 seconds.
