The HOYA FOG No0.5 has a matt surface that envelops the entire image in a pleasantly dreamlike fog effect. Compared to other soft filters from HOYA, however, the objects in the image remain sharp and rich in contrast. The intensity of the effect can be varied by adjusting the aperture of the camera. However, if the aperture is stopped down too much, the effect is significantly reduced. There are two HOYA FOG filters: FOG No0.5 and the stronger FOG No1. Both filters can also be combined to create an effect that resembles dense fog. Technology The HOYA FOG No0.5 filter uses special "slit glass" to create the fog effect. One layer of this glass is laminated with a transparent optical element. This special sandwich structure creates the characteristic FOG effect. Night shots What makes the soft effect of the HOYA FOG No0.5 particularly unique is the way it emphasizes bright areas of the image: they appear as if they are glowing. Ideal for night landscapes and night photography. Landscapes In landscape photography, this effect creates a magical, almost mystical atmosphere, like something out of a fantasy story.
