As someone with wide feet and high arches, I have always loved Keen boots for their wide toebox and grippy soles, they have served me well on many long hikes and backpacking trips. I have never needed much of a break-in period for them - I can usually just hike in them out of the box, and as long as I'm wearing good socks, I don't get blisters. However with the past couple pairs I have owned, I've had issues with the soles of the boot detaching. My current pair is the Targhee III, and after about a year of moderate use, the sole of one of the boots is detaching at the heel and all along the sides, which reduces traction and water proofing. I plan on just glueing the sole back on to see if that will get some more life out of them, but if it doesn't work I'm afraid ... MoreAs someone with wide feet and high arches, I have always loved Keen boots for their wide toebox and grippy soles, they have served me well on many long hikes and backpacking trips. These shoes in theory check every box. They have a wide toe box so my feet don't get cramped and they're comfortable. However, after about 2 months of light use, the leather started to separate from the shoe and the sole started to peel off. I have super glued and re-superglued this shoe back together more times than I can count. I went to the REI store I had purchased these shoes from, and they told me there that they couldn't help me other than by buying a new pair of shoes because this was "normal wear and tear." I've seen multiple other reviews having the exact same problem I have had, some with an even shorter wear time before the shoe starts to fall apart. Great concept of shoe, terrible manufacturing.

I ordered 3 pair of hiking boots and all 3 pair ran bigger than size, then ordered these boots down 1/3 size as a result and they run smaller in size. Boots do not run true to size. Can’t guess size bigger or smaller, it’s like rolling the five as to what sgit your gonna get. Swimming in the 7 and tight fit in 7 1/2. Love the keen look and quality. However fit is disappointing. I have owned over 10 pair prior to this order and always been a great fit at size 8 til this order. Idk something change in the fit. Was wider and to much room in the toe. Foot was not secure as it was sliding front to back and side to side. Kept the 7 1/2 with hope the boot loosens up and the snug big toe isn’t to much of a problem.

I'm glad that the return
14 December 2023

I'm glad that the return policy is easy. The first pair I bought were way too large. Before returning them for a smaller size I went to a retail store in the hopes of purchasing a pair. Although the store does carry Keens, they do not carry Targhee III. Instead of purchasing a different Keen hiking shoe there, I tried on a pair to be sure of the size. I ordered the Targhees I wanted in the size I thought was correct, based on similar Keen hiking shoes, but the Targhees are slightly larger than the pair I had tried on. My assumption is that the shoes are built to different specs in different factories. Is it enough to return these again for another smaller pair? No, not this time. That issue aside, I love my Targhees. They are probably the most comfortable hiking ... MoreI'm glad that the return policy is easy. The first pair I bought were way too large. Loss of quality over each generation of Targhee
1 February 2024

I have worn Keen Targhee mid boots since the original model. The first pair lasted for years and were waterproof until the boots wore out. The Targhee II model lasted a shorter duration and was less waterproof and narrower. I went to the Targhee III model…the first pair lasted 18 months before soaking through cracked leather. The next pair has lasted 10 months and the sole is splitting away from the shoe, the leather is cracking, and one has actually split all the way through to the fabric beneath! Each pair/model was subjected to the same conditions. Most of my hiking is 3-10 miles on trails; however, they do make occasional trips to Central America and are subjected to rougher trails and damp, humid conditions for a week to 10 days. Here in the northeast, there is mud and wet grass especially in spring but these shoes should still last longer than 10-18 months! I am heart broken to be forced to look at another brand of hiking boot because the quality of these boots has declined precipitously.

Not Made to Last, Targhee II’s Are Better Quality
3 May 2024

I previously had a pair of Targhee II’s before these that lasted me YEARS but finally wore out and needed an upgrade. I decided to try the Targhee III’s. I found them more comfortable than the II’s were and loved the look even more. However, and unfortunately, it’s barely over 1 year and my III’s are falling apart, separating from the sole and tearing in several places, so I don’t qualify for replacements. My II’s lasted me several years and were made of better materials. My order number was KUS8319071, bought them 2/12/23. I won’t be buying the III’s again. I hate that I wasted money on these.

I have purchased several pairs of this boot (or sometimes the shoe) over the past 5 years or so. It was a really good work boot for a long time. Definitely waterproof for wet mornings & mucky corrals. The waterproof coating will wear off eventually, but it lasts a good long time. But on the last few pairs, the sole begins to peel away from the rest of the boot, sometimes causing a tripping hazard. I returned one pair and Keen kindly replaced them, but it's becoming a regular issue on this particular style. I'm also not a fan of the new insoles. They are not as comfortable as the old ones. The only reason I keep ordering & don't switch to a different brand is because I know these fit & are waterproof and we live so far from anyplace to try on a new brand. The picture ... MoreI have purchased several pairs of this boot (or sometimes the shoe) over the past 5 years or so. Review of Keen Targhee III Mid WP Womens Hiking Boots
4 November 2023

Very good boots. Still they don't make them as they used to, but these are a very close contender to my current ones. Very strong leather panels, toe reinforced to feel practically steel capped (obviously it's not), very good fit and available in half sizes which I couldnt find on other sites or in shops. Fit is on the wide side for me but not a problem. Only things I wish manufacturers would give up are the round profile laces (never stay tied unlike flat ones) and lower ankle profile, compared to my old boots. Also I would have liked more lace hooks, instead of just one top pair. But still miles better than what's now presented as hiking boots (cheap synthetic fabrics, barely-there reinforcement, dreadful looks). The boots look good and are really sturdy. I haven't started wearing them yet but they're really the best-made and best value I've seen in years, at least for me.

Very comfortable but do not last
26 June 2024

I absolutely loved these boots, they were really comfortable right out of the box and were still very comfortable after a few months. Just the right amount of ankle and and arch support (I have plantar fasciitis)! I was really happy, however they do not last... I had the boots for less than a year and the front started to come off after only 2 months of wearing the boots. I started wearing them in the winter and I do quite a bit of outdoor work and hiking so the front part just kept getting unglued more and more. Unfortunately now the front part has completely come off and the boots are no longer waterproof. I had to buy a new pair of boots. I know I wear my boots a lot so I do not expect them to last too long but I at least expect them to last a year. If you do not expect to wear them every day then these boots might be okay for you but if you want boots for more than a couple of months I would look for another option. It is a shame because these are the most comfortable boots I have ever had.

delivery issue
30 December 2023

I knew in advance that I would enjoy the boots. I have had a pair for years. The problem was with delivery. I ordered by phone and was told the pkg. would arrive between Mon. and Fri., 12/18-12/22. Here in Maine we had a vicious rain and wind storm on that Monday and I was one of many to lose power. Around 5:30pm I noticed an unmarked box truck in front of my house.. I couldn't see much but after it drove away I went outside to check and, sure enough, there was my pkg. from you. It had been left at the door I never use, not near the mailbox. There had been no ring of the doorbell or knock at the door. If I hadn't played a hunch my pkg. would have been drenched or possibly stolen. The pkg. said FEDEX but the truck had no markings so I assume it was a subcontractor.. ... MoreI knew in advance that I would enjoy the boots. I have had a pair for years. I love them. They seem to run a bit larger then my old pair, but it's not an issue.
