I bought a pair of Targhee III boots at the end of September before going on holiday to the West coast of Scotland. They were a great fit and extremely comfortable straight out of the box. I spent the next week with wet feet! Willing to accept that I had got a ‘bad’ pair I took them back to my local retailer and exchanged them for a new pair. The first time I wore them on a wet day my feet were wet - again. I have persevered with them as I am not sure whether my local retailer will be able to refund my money now that I have already had one exchange ( small print not clear) and I do not think they should bear the cost of the replacement. I would advise anyone considering it, not to buy theses boots; a total waste of money! I have had many pairs of Keen footwear over ... Didn't work for me. The arch was too far forward and the top of the shaft hit at an awkward place on my anke and rubbed. I could tell immediately that it would cause discomfort with long term use. The size was right on, so I know that wasn't the cause. They would have been super comfortable if not for those two issues. I have a pair of Kovens that have a less wide toe box, and I wish they had the extra toe space of the Targhee, but they work better for me otherwise, with the arch further back and the shaft hitting differently on my ankle. Also worth noting, the Fumo/Quiet Green color is way off from the photo on the web site. The picture looks like a light stone color, but they're actually a much darker olive green, which is not a color I ever wear. Not a deal ... MoreDidn't work for me. These were gifted to me several years ago and I loved them, just as I had the previous pair of Keens! No issues fit or comfort-wise, which can be troublesome since I have wide feet.Unfortunately due to life circumstances, there was a multi-year span right after I received these in which I did not go hiking... AT ALL. Fast forward to the Fall of 2022, I finally got out and about again, standing in Lamar Valley of Yellowstone NP right after it was reopened after the disastrous flooding. The terrain was low scrubby grasses in a marshy kind of area - very minimal rocks, wet but not submerged. I was walking along and then all of a sudden mid-stride I got totally tripped up! I thought the taller grasses were somehow snagging me, but nope - when I sat down to ... MoreThese were gifted to me several years ago and I loved them, just as I had the previous pair of Keens! I thought the taller grasses were somehow snagging me, but nope - when I sat down to investigate, I discovered that 3/4 of the bottom layer of my shoe had come completely loose, while the last few inches at the top stayed put. No matter what I tried, it would not stay in place and remained a MASSIVE hindrance & hazard for the remaining 6 hours we were away from any other shoes I could change into. I resorted to super glueing the "flap" back into place, which did not budge AT ALL and returned my shoe to the normal comfort & reliability level. When I say those shoes had less than 20 miles put in them when this happened, I MEAN IT. Yes, I had them for years - during which they spent almost every single hour indoors in my closet, not outside in extreme weather or anything else that might excuse what happened. It was beyond frustrating & has turned me away from buying any more Keen brand shoes.

Oh my goodness these shoes may be the most comfortable thing I’ve ever put on my feet. I have bunions on my big toes, and one is particularly bad. I originally bought a pair of Merrell’s and about 15 minutes or less into our hike I was in pain, and that was wearing a wide.. I came back to the store to return them and buy a wider shoe, and the associate who helped me got me what I wanted, and also a pair of these. He specifically told me even, put the other ones on first, try them out! Then try these. So I did. OMG THERES NO PRESSURE ON MY BUNIONS AT ALL. I’m so happy I could cry. There’s plenty of room to wiggle around, but still secure enough to do a couple hours of hiking. I’ve worn these on multiple hikes now, and while they’re still a tiny stiff in the ankle, I ... I bought these boots last winter but this month was the first time I'd worn them in a moderate rainfall. They are absolutely not waterproof. A two kilometer walk along the Seawall in Vancouver left the boots completely soaked from toe to heel. In fact, I could feel my feet getting wet about the halfway point. I wore rain pants cinched tight over the top of the boot, so the rain did not get in around the ankles, it got in by soaking through the leather and fabric and through the supposedly waterproof Keen-Dry barrier. I even tested the boots the next day after they were dry. I put them under a light spray from my shower head, careful to only wet the exterior and sure enough within a minute or two I could feel the damp spreading on the inside of the boot. What a ... I have purchased several pairs of this boot (or sometimes the shoe) over the past 5 years or so. It was a really good work boot for a long time. Definitely waterproof for wet mornings & mucky corrals. The waterproof coating will wear off eventually, but it lasts a good long time. But on the last few pairs, the sole begins to peel away from the rest of the boot, sometimes causing a tripping hazard. I returned one pair and Keen kindly replaced them, but it's becoming a regular issue on this particular style. I'm also not a fan of the new insoles. They are not as comfortable as the old ones. The only reason I keep ordering & don't switch to a different brand is because I know these fit & are waterproof and we live so far from anyplace to try on a new brand. The picture ... Very good boots. Still they don't make them as they used to, but these are a very close contender to my current ones. Very strong leather panels, toe reinforced to feel practically steel capped (obviously it's not), very good fit and available in half sizes which I couldnt find on other sites or in shops. Fit is on the wide side for me but not a problem. Only things I wish manufacturers would give up are the round profile laces (never stay tied unlike flat ones) and lower ankle profile, compared to my old boots. Also I would have liked more lace hooks, instead of just one top pair. But still miles better than what's now presented as hiking boots (cheap synthetic fabrics, barely-there reinforcement, dreadful looks). It says they have arch support, although didn't ... It says they have arch support, although didn't feel much, again not like my old ones, but I will use insoles anyway so if you need more support, use ones with that. The boots look good and are really sturdy. I haven't started wearing them yet but they're really the best-made and best value I've seen in years, at least for me.
I have worn this boot for many miles over at least 7 years and I love it. I wouldn't even want a new pair except part of the tread is peeling off on the side of my right boot- no complaints- I've been hard on them and they are still awesome for short trails and longer backpacking. I've had this problem with other Keen styles and it never dawned on my they would change this boot too. They totally changed the foot bed and the sizing and the new pair I bought is awful- not just the sizing but the sole is cushioned in all the wrong places. I am trying a smaller size (going from 7 to 6.5) and will update. It's really frustrating, this boot did not need to be improved. If not, I'll be heartbroken and just wear my old ones until they fall apart- then sadly, search for a new boot.
I was looking for a boot for better ankle support. Took a chance on these as the store didn’t have my size in stock to even try on so had to order. Straight out of the box these have been incredibly comfortable and needed little to no break in period. I walk/hike 3-5 miles per day regardless of the weather, and these boots have been such a surprise. The toe box is on the wide side which is great when wearing a heavier sock. They have kept my feet warm and dry. I did just order the low cut version for times when I might not need as much boot - and I did order a half size down thinking of warmer weather and thinner socks. We shall see when they arrive how that works out. Overall, these have worked perfectly for me.
I wasn’t able to update my first review. I stand partially corrected. After realizing Keen totally changed their sizing since my last purchase, I went down a half size with an exchange (from 7 to 6.5). I realize they are probably trying to align better with standard sizing which is only wise. Except some of us adapted to their running a half size small a long time ago. Anyway- I am going to keep the 6.5 only because my old ones are showing some wear after 7 years. I don’t really like the new design with the synthetic bottom seam and I’m worried about it splitting from the sole as others have experienced. But they were comfortable enough to keep and this boot is still better for my hiking and light/short backpacking purposes than any other boot I have owned (also ...
