A great investment for long term value

To start, I am 25 at the time of writing this review, which should speak, in part, to the age appeal of this item. My brother and I grew up with Lego Star Wars sets. We would often work hard to save up money for sets. We had many of the original classics such as the first x-wing, y-wing, tie fighter, AT-AT, AT-ST, snow speeder, etc. However, as a kid there were a couple sets that cost to much to save up for and felt beyond what we were comfortable asking our parents for around Christmas or birthdays. Among these "elite" sets were the Death Star, Star Destroyer, and Millennium Falcon. Buying this piece as an adult now makes me feel like my childhood is a bit more complete and I look forward to bestowing it one day to my children or nieces/nephews as one of the gifts ... MoreTo start, I am 25 at the time of writing this review, which should speak, in part, to the age appeal of this item. On to logistics and away from nostalgia...This set took me a while to build and I have about peaked at my level of fine motor control and mental processing. I started building this set at 8:20 p.m. and finished at 1:20 a.m. There are some mildly technical parts: i.e. stickers, paneling that children may want parents help for (this would be a great set to do as a parent/child bonding set). The best part is that most everything is to scale and it looks sleek. I built a stand for mine and it looks respectable as a decoration around my room. It is a great place to hold mini figured and can hold about 14 comfortably (I have Vader, Palpatine, and several generations of troopers [clone to First Order Stormtroopers]). The interior is well crafted as well with a command bridge, med area, conference table, "throne" room for Snoke with a mini elevator to get up there, and an intelligence center with computers. Overall a great build, plenty of play features, looks great on a stand. Long but satisfying build. And some rare mini figures. Pro-tip for parents: when the Star Destroyer is closed mini sets stuch as the $6-9 tie fighters, shuttles, x-wings look closer to scale than their large-set counterparts which means you can buy smaller sets "for the Star Destroyer space battles" as rewards for good behavior/chores. :)

You no longer have to remove a large section to unfold the central section; no it is merely a flip up and open. This removes any concerns of breaking pieces (as has happened to my 75055 on several occasions)Then, we get to the interior and my word, this is where this set truly comes alive. We have a conference room, throne room, technical display control room, and the fully kitted out bridge. This is simply miles ahead of 75055, which by comparison looks pretty sparse and unpleasant. The minifigures are excellent, and yes I have the usual gripe of it would have been nice to have had one or two more. I would have loved to have had a Praetorian Guard included which with the inclusion of Snoke, would have made sense. I am surprised that there has not yet been a Praetorian Guard released in minifigure format, but then maybe LEGO are waiting for a future set.... Please LEGO hear my prayers...But, in all honesty, I think LEGO did a wonderful job with these minifigures, based upon those released in previous sets of this size and calibre.Overall, I cannot recommend this set enough! I simply wish I had brought two to have assembled a small fleet! Those of you who, like me, have the 75055, should not worry about getting this set. It is different enough to warrant, and a vast improvement on 75055. I imagine, like the First Order fleet itself, that all vessels have had major upgrades in their design and the LEGO Fleet is NO exception! My only plea is for a minifigure Praetorian Guard! Please Lego...

However, I do have some complaints. The first is the price. This set should be $140, maybe even $150 at maximum. But $160? Really LEGO? That is simply too much to ask for a set like this. However, the model is amazing and so are the figures, but there aren't enough figures for the price. If there were closer to ten figures, this set would be just about perfect. But there are only five, plus BB-9E. Also, there aren't enough play good play features. I don't personally use them, and would usually be happy if there were none, but you can't even pose the stud shooters on the side of the model. This set was given to me as a Christmas present. I had my eye on this set for a while but was unsure if I would enjoy it. And the price tag was too steep for me to make that gamble. In short I’m glad I received it, and can say with confidence that this is a must have for Star Wars collectors. What I was unsure about was the exterior for display purposes. By pictures and YouTube reviews the exterior of the ship just looked bland. But now I can say that they don’t do it justice. I knew the interior was awesome looking and jammed packed with features but that’s not how I would display it.It’s a pretty decent size and the Technic carry handle is a nice touch. The star destroyer is a must have set in my opinion for three reasons, it looks good, has a lot of play value, and it comes with a special minifigure. For the first reason, the ship looks fantastic. I love the ship's exterior details. The fact that the exterior is not just simple plating makes this set perfect for display and admiration. I think Lego really captured the shape of the FO Star Destroyer really well. The engines on the back of the ship are what you would expect. It has plenty of play value packed within it. You will find the majority of the play value within the interior of the ship. There are 3 rooms in the ship including a detailed bridge and a room with 3 computers. You will find the majority of the play value within the interior of the ship. There are 3 rooms in the ship including a detailed bridge and a room with 3 computers. There are many scenes you can reenact within each of the three rooms and you can fit a good number of minifigures with each of the three rooms which further adds to the play value (not a full army of course). There is an elevator leading to a small area in the ship where Snoke sits down which I thought was kind of neat. On the exterior, the ship comes with stud shooters which I do not think is too bad. Although it would be nice if we were able to rotate the stud shooters. The set is the only one (so far) to come with a Snoke minifigure. The Snoke minifigure itself is well detailed. So for you minifigure collectors out there this set will have to do if you're looking for a Snoke. If you're a FO army builder or just a collector this set is a must have. However I do have some minor suggestions for the set. For the minifigure selection is not that bad, the only exclusive minifigure we get is Snoke, and then a one of a kind BB-9E. For the price of this set, I think it would have been fair to add at least another exclusive minifigure or two, such as a Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, General Hux, or some other important FO figure. The price of this set for the number of parts you get, in combination with the features of this set is actually pretty good. So if you're pondering over this set or some other pricey set (assuming the FO Assault Walker), again I would highly recommend purchasing this set instead.

If it is in fact The Finalizer. The set is pretty cool, I didn’t think it would be so big, I haven’t had any of the previous star destroyers from years prior and thought it had some potential to be underwhelming from pictures of those other sets. But this is really cool, the amount of detail is amazing. There’s some interesting play features, the stud shooters on the side are alright, there’s an elevator feature to reach what can be a command bridge or Snokes chambers.I had a couple of the different first order battle packs from the force awakens line and the latest one, I would recommend these for additional crew as the set only comes with a few figures.Though they are nice ones, Snoke is unique, they got his golden bathrobe done in an interesting way of ... MoreIf it is in fact The Finalizer. The set is pretty cool, I didn’t think it would be so big, I haven’t had any of the previous star destroyers from years prior and thought it had some potential to be underwhelming from pictures of those other sets. But this is really cool, the amount of detail is amazing. There’s some interesting play features, the stud shooters on the side are alright, there’s an elevator feature to reach what can be a command bridge or Snokes chambers.I had a couple of the different first order battle packs from the force awakens line and the latest one, I would recommend these for additional crew as the set only comes with a few figures.Though they are nice ones, Snoke is unique, they got his golden bathrobe done in an interesting way of printing, BB-9E makes an appearance too which is great. The shuttle pilot has a helmet mould I like a lot but the crewman body is so overused and boring but it works. The officer figure is done in a cool gun metal grey colour and has a good face print. And lastly a couple storm troopers, one is a squad leader as he has a pauldron. The build itself has a lot of nice detail on the hull, it feels sturdy too and has a great carrying handle.Back to the space inside, you can’t expect too much room for what it is but I wanted to fit all my first order figures in somehow..I took out the elevator feature, popped out the cylinder piece and found space behind it to pop 3-4 stormtroopers.I found it difficult to have Snoke in his chamber, he needs to lay back in order for the top to close. Some modifications I made were additional plates and small bits of detail to the hull but also a gun rack to accomodate the weapons of the additional officers & troops I added. All in all I’m very satisfied but a few more figures would have been nice, it looks so empty without the battlepack dudes.

Another Brilliant Light Kit from GOB. The Engines of this Craft are probably the Most Prominent Feature, So you NEED something to set them off & This kit dose it Superbly. The exterior of the Star Destroyer is a bit Bland but the Interior is the Total opposite, When you Open the flaps and expose the insides with the Lights placed in just the right places it is Magical, It Draws yup in, All the Little details are all lit-up EVEN the Hologram. The Light Kit Really dose bring this Model Alive inside (Instead of being dark & lifeless).

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this set.The box was quite big so i expected a massive ship. While it is quite large I thought it was bigger. While building it I realized that it was going to be a bit smaller than i thought( seeing the 1400 pieces made me assume it was larger). As I was building it I realized why the 1400 pieces... the amount of detail is amazing. The interior holds plenty of space for figures, for more than it came with. There is a table with 3 chairs, command center with 4 chairs, an elevator. A command station for one figure, and a second station that holds several figures with some display screens. The top opens quite nicely, it is well put together so no fear of it breaking. The ship is quite heavy so i find the handle to carry it is not strong enough. It feels like it will break. The top opens fully giving you full acess to the interior without having to remove parts. The outside is nicely detailed and the back of it looks great.Overall this set exeeds my expectations. One of the most fun sets i own.The biuld itself(despite taking long) was fun. I made some mistakes that were easy fixed. Too many pieces the same color.

Wonderful ship

I had been looking at getting this ever since it showed up in the store but held off on ordering one because of the other reviews and the actual pictures I saw. Before buying it I thought it was noticeably smaller than the traditional star destroyer that came out just before this one, and thought that it wouldn’t be as sturdy and have a smaller interior. After building the ship though, I saw that this ship was built on the exact same frame as the older one, so their interior space was exactly the same, and the outer hull panels were very close in size too. Some people say that the ship isn’t very sturdy or the handle feels like it can’t hold the weight of the ship, but if you build it right the hull panels are actually much much stronger than the older one, and ... MoreI had been looking at getting this ever since it showed up in the store but held off on ordering one because of the other reviews and the actual pictures I saw. As for the handle feeling like it’s weak or will break off, you can pick up the whole ship and even swing it around pretty aggressively and it still holds strong with no fear or feeling that it’s pulling away from the rest of the ship.Compared to the old ship the interior and detail of this one is on a whole different level. A sleek table and chairs, doorways and walkways, an elevator, the beautiful control stations at the front of the ship, a small station with a medical droid, a staircase leading to the front of the ship and a very cool large computer. They all fit very very well in the ship with good spacing so it doesn’t feel too crammed in and there’s still tons of room for figures. With all the nice seating in the ship and control stations it feels like I could actually put even more mini figures in it than in the old one, even with all the beautiful detailing. The only difficulty I had building this ship was the stickers, but they add so much more detail to the ship and I’m very glad they have them. There’s about 25 stickers which are all used on the interior and a few of them are a little difficult to align with others. I recommend putting the black walkway pieces in the ship before you put the stickers on so you can get all the lines and intersections of the stickers straight. All there is to complain about this beautiful ship is the stud shooters on the exterior can’t be adjusted to aim and the price feels just a little high. If it was a little cheaper I would even get a second one for my fleet. If you’re on the fence about buying this wonderful ship because of its price or the other reviews I suggest you just go for it and get one. The detail is amazing for collectors and it’s playability with how it’s built as sturdy as a real star destroyer and the variety of mini figures included make it well worth getting.
