Let's Hit Each Other with Fake Swords by Exploding Kittens
Whether you’re a fan of knights, pirates, ninjas, or just smacking your friends and family, this game is for you! The goal of the game is to collect 3 sets of matching cards. Grab a bunch of cards and make Piles in the middle of the table. Everyone looks at the Piles and decides which one will help them complete the sets of matching cards they’re working on. On the count of three, each player points to the card Pile they want. If more than one player picks a Pile, it’s time to duel! Grab your Swords and fight using the rules laid out on the cards in the Pile (ex: “Keep your knees together for the whole fight” or “Toss your Sword in the air and catch it before you’re allowed to fight”). Whoever makes contact first wins. It’s fun to play, hilarious to watch, and a great way to settle arguments like grown-ups (grown-ups with Swords!) Contents 2 Swords 72 Cards Plus, one instruction manual that you will probably skim.

As a lover of Throw Throw Burrito I can't help but compare the two. In Swords I really like the way cards are pointed at and chosen which leads to fights over just speed making sets in Burrito. It creates more impact on the outcome of the game as you can get pelted by Burritos and still win if you made enough sets. The pointing and the way the fight boss can create fun moments is wonderful. The Sword fights are very fun but we do tend to prefer just throwing Burritos (or avocados) slightly more. I think sometimes our shorter player didn't need a advantage but perhaps a house rule can fix on replays. Would love a Mashup between Burritos and swords.

Our family of four had loads of fun with this one! We love the EK games that get us moving (and laughing) without being exhausting and this one didn't disappoint. The sword fighting rules are great, we all had fun putting piles together based on how fun they would be together. Count up and 20 second duel combined can be really challenging! The games can go quickly so you can squeeze in a game if you're short on time, but there's a ton of replay value so it's just as easy to play a few rounds and not get bored. We definitely recommend this one!

We decided that you can only truly know how awesome a game is once you’ve played it with a bunch of different people, a bunch of different times. So, our Fourth of July was the perfect opportunity to pull out the fake swords and get to dueling! We had about 20 people all together and I don’t think a single person wasn’t laughing so hard that they were crying at some point. Sprinkle on a little Throw Throw Burrito (giant inflatable version OBVIOUSLY) and you have a great time and a lovely outlet for any aggression you build up after spending that much time with that many family members! Another AMAZING and HILARIOUS game to add to our giant collection.P.S. The fake swords are also perfect for out-of-game battles that must be dealt with. Who needs rock, paper, ... Overall -- it was fun! We had a good time playing with lots of laughs, I'm looking forward to another game with a few more people, a better/more open space and some perhaps some libations. With just three players in a smallish room with two cats, it becomes a bit of a challenge. The whole experience is unique and acts as a nice palette cleanser between more strategy oriented games - although I think the strategy here would increase with the number of players. I could see myself playing in a big open field, or even in a swimming pool if there's a waterproof version in the works.PROS:• Easy to understand gameplay and directions• Really freaking cute swords• I hit my friend with 'Throw Throw Swordo' and felt very good about the whole thingCONS• Cannot play ... Very few games manage to truly walk the line of family and adult game, and this is no exception. That's not to say that it isn't still fun! The black cards are just a little.... overzealous in their ability to win a fight. As adults all within a few inches and a few pounds of each other, the cards were just too overpowered for most of the fights. It almost felt like a good way for certain types of adult parties to give the advantage to those who had consumed the most liquid, but then the rulings were a little too hard to make and follow for that to work as well. It was still *fun* but this is a game we'll likely be passing on to our friends with kids, where it will be far more enjoyed. And that's fine by us! It may also work better in a different friend group where there's more size/ability differences (in our group, one member struggles to move quickly, so they always got the black "count to 20" advantage, regardless of height, because otherwise it was an automatic loss for them).
We played this after dinner last week. It was easy to learn, fun to strategize, and got everyone laughing. Every hand of cards can lead to a pretty zany sword fight, so it even got the heart rate up. High recommend.14yo: "I liked the active element."48yo: "An absurd mix of card strategy and frenetic action make this a winner!"17yo: "We hit each other with fake swords."
Honestly it is hard to go wrong with fake swords. I had the swords laying out before playing and people would start randomly fighting each other with them. Once we started playing, people enjoyed the challenges on the cards. As a short person playing with mostly other short friends, we found the short people advantages very funny. We had some difficulties with some challenges, such as throwing the swords over our heads (we played inside due to rain and I have low ceilings) and taking a bow after the sword hits anything (as my friends were whacking each others' sword over and over, they had to constantly bow to keep up with the hits). I also kept reminding players to start the battle with the tips of the swords touching, but they usually did not keep the tip touching ... MoreHonestly it is hard to go wrong with fake swords. Overal, even though I played with friends that usually do not like being active, we all had a lot of fun playing this game!
This game is the newest game from Exploding Kittens with slightly similar win condition to Throw Throw Avocado/Burrito, but having played those games and this, I think "Let's Hit Each Other With Fake Swords" is the funnest dueling game without the mess and chaos of the speed drawing & discarding of the Throw Throw games.First and foremost, the packaging and the swords are so cute 😍 My daughter didn't want to let anyone else to have her little "swordie." The swords look great, hilts are made of super stiff foam which is grippy that will hold up pretty well, the foam blades are made of an airier, softer foam (similar to pool noodles, but definitely denser) that will probably last a few games but if you have intense enough duels it'll eventually start to chip ... The golden colored back of the cards have an elegant sword design which looks great. Cards have a similar size, feel & weight as most other Exploding Kittens cards. The setup of the game is pretty straightforward and easy to understand as my family went through the rules. We took our time testing out dueling with all the different restrictions on the cards to see how each would play out prior to playing the actual game (which was hilarious). We love that this game gave advantages to the shorter people, so this is especially helpful in leveling the playing field when the smaller kids wanted to play.Gameplay was also pretty straightforward and got intense especially when the duels came down to two players fighting a winner take all duel as they both needed the same color to win it all.All in all, it has been a hit game for the whole family where games didn't take too long to finish (each game ranged from 10-20 mins of actual gametime) and there were tons of intense moments and laughs the whole time.
We had a group of 4 friends play this game after dinner. The booklet made the setup, rules, and win condition clear from the get-go.After a single round, we fully understood the appeal. Like a session of Tag, playing the game evoked in each of us a childlike necessity to dodge, duck, dip, and dive, anything to get out of the way of each other's swords.New rules from random cards, common knowledge of your opponents' hands, and the encouraged spoken-aloud strategizing all make the gameplay incredibly variable from round to round and game to game. We look forward to playing this game again with a larger group.
Remember doing this as a kid? Perhaps with a stick? Broom? The cardboard tube within wrapping paper? We do! And it was a fun, well, until you broke Grandma's urn or your little brother required several stitches that would eventually become a funny story he tells at high school parties. This game takes all of that childhood dramedy and turns it into a structured game. Well, about as structured as such a game can be. These fun modifiers come into play with each sword duel and you'll find them in a varying degree of intensity. Overall a really fun party game! You'll need lots of room, or some level of self-control and spatial awareness. We play outside, but it could be ok to play in a large room. Away from Granny's curio cabinet.
