Works fine. Minus 2 stars for not using your cap as a measurement tool on label instructions. This has been industry standard for decades. I had to watch 2 YouTube videos to figure this out. Pro tip: 3.5oz is apparently 2 full cap fulls.

Better than expected

Fantastic overall result with first time use on Macpac down jacket. Easily removed many stains/grubbiness with pre-wash wipe over directly on soiled area. And then in the machine delicate cycle. Jacket was better than new - combination of great product and following manufacturer’s instructions. Usual great service from Snowys.

Use this to wash my goose down and synthetic puffies. The jackets/vests are placed in mesh bags in the washer. Dry on cool. Nice and puffy when done and clean. Pro Tip: Dry with 3 dryer balls and put a drop or two of scented oil (like peppermint) on each ball for a nice fragrance. DO NOT over saturate the balls with the oil as it can be a fire hazard if you dry on heat!

Good down wash

I use this for all of my down clothing to keep them clean as well as preserving the insulative qualities of the downJackets and vests have all gone through the wash without issues and that is a big deal when washing down since it can feel quite risky given the high cost of these items and the risk of destroying the down or the fabric colourGood to do a spot cleaning of the jacket first with mild dishwashing detergent in soiled areas and then toss it all in with the downwash for great results (front loader only)Have washed several Canada G__se items with complete success

Incredible
23 November 2022

I was unaware of proper sleeping bag care until pretty recently. As a result I had a heavily used bag that had never been washed and another one that had been stored compressed for a few years. I used this product to wash both according to the instructions on how to (carefully) wash a sleeping bag from REI's website. It's absolutely incredible how much loft was restored! The bags now completely fill out their large storage sacks, whereas they used to only fill them up about halfway. In fact, now they're so puffy that I have to find a new place to store them! I also used this product to wash a badly abused down jacket and vest. Same result: both items are as shiny and lofty as the day I bought them.

Just in the Nikwax of time!

After my dog peed on my new Katabatic quilt, I had to wash the quilt for the first time. Following the manufacturer’s recommendation, I used Nikwax Down Wash and it worked perfectly as advertised! The quilt was clean and the down lofted like new, after a lengthy drying period. Highly recommend this product.

Nikwax Down Wash does a real nice job!

Read about the experiences of others with this product, so combined a few best practices and gave the product a shot. I wanted to wash up all my winter gear before stowing it away for the summer.First, I ran the 'Clean Washer' cycle using bleach, then two rinse cycles to remove all soap or residue in the washer. I blended the washing instructions on the garment and on the product bottle to come up with the best approach for each garment. I washed one article at a time: Two full blown puffy jackets, a low profile down mid layer and a vest. All cleaned up nicely. I used very low dryer setting with a couple of tennis balls. It took forever to get the jackets dried and all the down puffed back up, but it was worth it. Found a used Down Jacket in great condition listed for 1/3 the price just because it was dirty. I decided to buy it and have a go at giving it a good clean with this Down Wash. It worked perfectly and my jacket now looks good as new!The bottle includes washing machine instructions but I would suggest doing it by hand. This may take several hours, but will loft the down back up to its original condition

excellent results on Stormhenge down jacket
22 November 2021

A year ago, I received a heavy REI down Stormhenge jacket as a gift as I currently have limited funds to run the oil heat in my home. I am sitting in the jacket now as I write and it overall keeps me very warm as long as I wear a suitable shirt underneath. Anyway, after a year of constant, daily wear, both the jacket I received as a gift plus one I bought myself a month later, needed washed. Because of Covid and budgetary concerns, I dragged my feet on maybe going to a laundromat and decided to try to wash and dry the jackets at home. All I have is a standard washer that does have a center agitator and a dryer, but at least the dryer has a low or no heat setting. Since my washer actually does have a "hand washables" cycle setting, I decided to give it a go and I prayed that I wouldn't damage the jacket. I decided to try washing the jacket I bought myself first since I bought it used whereas the gifted one was brand new. After taking a look at the washing tag instructions on the coat, I realized that I was going to have to use something other than standard detergent. After reading other reviews and contacting REI myself, it was recommended that I use this product for the wash. So, I placed an order and within a few days, the Nikwax had arrived. Then, one rainy day I decided to go forward with the process.I set the washer on the maximum water setting, added the Nikwax amount according to the instructions. Once the washer had almost filled, I carefully added the Stormhenge jacket and was careful to balance it as carefully as I could around the agitator. Since I had never used the "hand washables" cycle before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I kept the lid open so I could see what would transpire. The filling completed and I heard the "click" on to the washing cycle and I thought the washer had broken because nothing happened. Suddenly, after about 30 seconds, agitation started. It only lasted about 15 seconds and then stopped. I determined that this cycle used a duty cycle- light agitation for a few seconds, then stop, then repeat agitation a minute later. The washer proceeded this way for about the next ten minutes. I got in my head though that this very light washing might not do the trick, so decided to help swash the coat around while being careful to keep it from compressing around the agitator. The cycle completed and now on to rinse. No Nikwax on rinse, but instructions say to rinse at least twice. I followed the same process, hand washables setting, then I carefully manually helped the agitation while keeping the jacket away from the agitator as much as possible. After two rinses, a sigh of relief as nothing appeared to be damaged. I ran extra spin to get as much water out of the jacket as I could before heading for the dryer.Taking the jacket out of the washer, it had a slight smell that I at first couldn't identify but then turned out to be the Nikwax. The jacket had the feel of something that had been waxed, which was expected. My hands felt that way too. I should note that the instructions say to wear gloves when using the Nikwax. I didn't, but was careful to wash my hands thoroughly afterwards.Drying was a no brainer. Two tennis balls, low heat setting and then fluffing between cycles. Although the jacket seemed dry after three cycles, I decided on a fourth cycle just as a precaution. The drying process took about 3.5 hours. After the elapsed time, a fluffy, warm down jacket emerged with excellent fluff/ loft and warmth. I'd like to point out that most of the pros say NOT to use a washer with an agitator and I could certainly see why. If I hadn't of been constantly monitoring the process, it could be quite easy for the jacket to get caught and torn on the agitator. So, unless you're planning to monitor the entire process and have a special "hand washables" setting or equivalent, perhaps the tub or laundromat are better options. Thanks Nikwax for doing an excellent job!

made my 40+ year old sleeping bag good as new-ish
21 October 2017

This did the trick for a 40+ year old sleeping bag that my dad gave to me. He was sure it couldn't be salvaged but I set to work with the internet as my guide and came across this stuff. The sleeping bag was dirty (had probably never been washed) and had been in storage for a few decades so was kinda musty. Other than that, perfectly functional. The label tells you to only hand-wash sleeping bags, but the internet told me otherwise. I ran a load of laundry without detergent to clear out any sudsy residue and then loaded up my sleeping bag (turned inside-out), put 100mL of Nikwax in the main wash tray, and ran it through a delicate cycle. I watched it while it was washing and it really didn't get sudsy at all, so I think you can exceed the 100mL without worrying ... MoreThis did the trick for a 40+ year old sleeping bag that my dad gave to me. I watched it while it was washing and it really didn't get sudsy at all, so I think you can exceed the 100mL without worrying about your washing machine exploding due to an overabundance of soap suds. I probably would have added a little more than the amount dictated by the label if I'd known it wouldn't over-suds. After it finished the first cycle I put it through a "quick" wash without any additional detergent to make sure it was thoroughly rinsed. Then I put it in the dryer on extra low for about 60 minutes, checking every now and then to fluff it up. I laid it out overnight on a drying rack covered with a towel so it could air out completely. The sleeping bag is definitely clean--all the griminess on it is gone and I no longer feel repulsed by the idea of sleeping in it. Overall really pleased with this product!
