A must have on the shelf!

This is super easy to use (just pop it in the washing machine!) and has been absolutely fantastic at reviving some of my waterproof gear that was getting a little too soggy in the rain for my liking! I used the wash followed immediately by the waterproofer this time around, and will use just the wash for the next couple of cycles. I will definitely keep these 2x products stocked on the shelf to care for all my rainproof gear.

I employed the same effort, soaking the jacket, and using the toothbrush to scrub the white and red regions. The brightness really began to return to the white, and the red piping and slashes also brightened up after some scrubbing. The wash tub water was really ugly and dark with all the removed grime. I used a separate plastic tub for the rinsing, three good dunks and swishing to get out as much residue as possible, and then a final hose off and hanging it up outside to air dry.I/we are very pleased with the results, and can recommend the Nikwax. We obtained excellent results, had no concerns with any odors afterwards, and it rinsed out cleanly. We have worn the jackets since, with no issues. Well worth the cost and effort to protect the investment we have made in quality riding gear.

My jackets look clean and bright after washing with this. Did not remove chain grease (expected) but otherwise cleaned very well. I had a vintage gortex jacket that I would only wear out in light rain but it is noticeably more water repellent now. The material feels softer/smoother and sheds water better.

Good product
10 November 2024

I used the product to wash 3 waterproof coats. All the coats were much cleaner, although I haven't been out in torrential rain so can not comment on that aspect. I ordered a small pouch of the product just to check it out. I will certainly be ordering a larger bottle on the strength of this usage.

I had to throw away my clothes after using it

I am extremely disappointed with the performance of this particular washing material. I used it for my Vaude/Mammut jackets, following the washing recommendations precisely. I used a delicate program and set the temperature to 30 degrees as instructed. However, the washing machine's interior became sticky, and all my clothes were covered in countless small, stubborn goops, impossibly to remove, causing me great frustration.in the past I have used similar products without any issues, although I cannot recall their specific brands.(unfortunately) I strongly advise against purchasing this particular washing material!!!!

My daughter bought me a pale blue/grey Mac a couple of years ago, wind and waterproof. I was doubtful but very pleasantly surprised that it actually was. I’ve worn it numerous times and it started to look grubby thanks to muddy dog walking. Asked for advice from yourselves about cleaning it and purchased the Nikwax Tech wash. It worked a treat my Mac is like new. Thank you.

No buy until Nikwax resolves issue
28 July 2022

I've been using Nikwax for over 30 years and I have never had any issues. Fast forward to this year, using Tech Wash and TX.Direct has created spots, like oil spots (descriptive since it isn't oil based or anything, but you get the point) on several articles of clothes now: two The North Face FUTURELIGHT jackets, and two Montbell Gore-Tex Infinium rain jackets have spotting issues after using Tech Wash and TX. Direct. Rewashing with regular detergent and regular water did not resolve the issue. Nikwax hasn't provided a response, although TNF warrantied one jacket when I thought it was a one off issue with TNF jacket, but given the issue persisted with three other jackets, I'm narrowing it to Nikwax as the culprit. Oddly, a Gore-Tex Paclite Plus and Dry.Q rain pants did not exhibit the spotting despite being washed in the same load as the two Gore-Tex Infinium and FUTURELIGHT jackets. The spotting doesn't seem to affect waterproofing, since I did a water test in the area of spotting and there was no leakage. Not sure if affects breathability in those areas. Aesthetically it looks bad. Don't know if it is going to be permanent or temporary. I may return the jackets to see if the companies will warranty, which TNF did for the first jacket previously. Don't know if this is an odd chemical reaction or what to the inner layer, but given that Gore-Tex Paclite Plus is 2.5L and Dry.Q is 2.5L and didn't suffer from spotting, while Gore-Tex Infinium is 2L and FUTURELIGHT is 3L which did suffer from spotting, I don't see anything consistent about the issue. If it was a washing and drying technique issue (after over 30 years of use with no issues I can't see that as culprit), then it should have affected the two rain pants, too.

Not Sure
18 January 2024

I always use Tech Wash on my technical outerwear because of the regard that I have for Nikwax products. Tech Wash does a great job cleaning my waterproof breathables.Nikwax claims that Tech Wash revitalizes the DWR treatment which it does but I find that it doesn't last that long. That is the only disappointment that I have with this product. In spite of my reservations regarding water repellency life after using Tech Wash, I still use it because it cleans well and does provide a period of time where the garments resist being laden down by rain.

Protects my investments
6 July 2023

My outdoors gear is not cheap and I need it to perform for as long as possible. I used to wash my dwr treated pants and jackets in regular laundry soap and soon realized it was causing my gear to wet out and in some cases leaving a residue. I have a dirty bin for jackets, pants, shells etc. that I wait until it is full and do a load with techwash. It renews the water repellancy and I have been known to go for more than 2 years with a rain shell before I have to re treat it with dwr treatment (I get the nikwax wash in to do after washing it with techwash). It works best if you can toss the items in the dryer after, but you can hang dry as well.

The right product for caring for your waterproof and breathable garments.
8 July 2023

This is one of two products you need for washing and treating Gore-Tex and other waterproof and breathable garments. It's what restores the waterproof nature of the garments. While a little pricey, compared to ordinary detergent, Gore-Tex and other waterproof and breathable garments are not ordinary clothes so you need to treat them with the proper chemicals. Fortunately, it can be done in a regular washing machine, but requires two wash cycles because there's two products you have to use.

Cleans effectively, reviving breathability and water repellency Breathable waterproof garments are most likely to get sweaty and wet inside when used in damp or wet conditions. If the outer fabric absorbs water, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathability. Therefore, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) on the outer fabric of your jacket must be maintained to ensure comfort. Nikwax Tech Wash will revitalise the DWR and therefore breathability of your garment. How to machine wash: Remove all detergent build up from the detergent dispenser. Place item(s) in washing machine (maximum 2 items). Use 150ml in medium/hard water* areas and 100ml in soft water areas for 1-2 items. Wash according to care label.
