PetSafe Premium Crystal Cat Litter Box System

I bought this a month ago and wanted to test it thoroughly before writing a review. I placed this box next to my old one (tall with a lid and access through the top) so my cats wouldn't feel forced to use this. The younger one started #2 in it almost immediately and recently started #1 in it too. The older one prefers the old box, and I was afraid she would spray all over the place in this new one as she has the tendency to lift her behind up when she uses the box, and the sides are not very tall here. She hasn't used this to #1 so I don't know if it would work for her. What I like: the litter looks better than regular litter, the litter does a good job of absorbing smells, and it's easy to scoop. What I don't like: the little perforated area meant to catch litter off of paws-- my cats just jump right over it, so crystals end up getting on the floor. The pad that goes underneath is also gross, but I found that the crystals have already lasted an entire month with no smell and once or twice daily usage. I would switch completely, but I'm afraid the older cat will have a tough time adjusting.

I wasn't so sure how my cat would take to the crystals as compared to traditional clumping litter. To my surprise, she started using this litter box almost immediately. I like the higher side of the box and the holes in the front that catch any excess litter on my cat's feet. I suppose depending on the agility of your cat (and where you place the litter box), it might be possible for your furry family member to jump out one of the other sides and thus causing more tracking of the litter. Personally, I didn't find the lower part of the litter box to be very useful to me. The pad is supposed to catch any urine not trapped by the crystals. Because my cat is a bit bigger, it also means everything else he does is bigger too (If you know what I mean). Prior to using this system I had only used traditional clumping cat litter and was not used to using the Crystal Litter. I have found that the Crystal litter is pretty good at catching moisture from my cats solids, however most of the urine seems to end up in the bottom wet pad. Crystal Litter is also supposed to be better at odor control, however since the Crystals don't seem to catch most of the urine, there is a large urine odor that comes from the box after approximately 1 week. I do understand my cat is bigger, however the company states that the litter system only needs daily solid scooping before needing to change the pad and litter after approximately one month for a single cat. As for the box itself, I wish the litter box was larger because it is quite cramped for my cat. My cat also doesn't use the anti tracking surface as he just jumps right over the side so the litter crystals end up on the floor anyways but I did not deduct points for crystals being on the floor because I'm already pretty used to that after owning cats my whole life! I would, however prefer that instead of the anti tracking surface (since it doesn't seem to be used at all) the box was bigger so my cat would have more room to do his business comfortably. Overall, If this litter box was larger, it would be pretty standard as a litter box and I would recommend it to people looking for a litter box for their cat.
