For those who do not have the older shaver, don't despair. The newest Prestige will provide you with all the shaver you really need so enjoy it. Just remember to turn it 90 degrees to get a closer shave under the nose and ears due to the pentagonally shaped heads. For the neck, cheeks and chin this rotation is not needed. I have shaved after 7 days of growth just to see if it still works (Philips claim it does) and yes it does work. Although, in my opinion if you have sensitive skin I would shave every couple of days as it's a quick process. I threw out my shower mirror last week just to be sure. The only thing I would like to see in the next model is a more compact travel pouch as the pouch is bulky. But nothing is perfect I guess! Aside from this I think Philips have hit the ball out of the park with this one! I gave this a 5 star because it works!

I agree now that I had the chance to use them both. I have used electric shavers for more than 25 years and the last 15 have been exclusively Phillips. Since I can’t compare recently to other brands I will say this shaver gives me the closest shave I have encountered with an electric shaver. I like the weight of the unit and the ergonomics. Shaving the hair in this area was a lot easier with less shaving passes needed to do the job.I'm very happy with this product as it performed flawlessly and offered up nothing but the best of shaves. Replaced a 9721 with the 9820. The new shaver feels pretty much the same in the hand. It is a bit quieter although the 9721 is quiet. The 9820 is comfortable on the face, perhaps a bit moreso than my previous shaver but about the same. However, the 9820 provides a closer shave faster (takes 1/2 the time) that means twice the time between recharge which is really nice. Relative negatives on 9820:The display area on the 9820 is a little smaller. The numbers are about the same size but they are bolder on the 9720 and so easier to read. Also, although the manual says that the display will turn on if the shaver is moved (as it does on the older model) to see the display to determine how much power is left it is necessary to turn on the shaver. I have an eight year old 9721 and its head still attaches firmly after all these years; it's space age plastic, not your grandfather's plastic.Some men are opting for the latest Prestige with the pentagonal head given that it can be used with a cleaning pod (unnecessary as mentioned) and has a flip-top assembly for easier cleaning. This newer version's advantage is immediately erased by the unwieldy pentagonally shaped head making shaving under the nose and ears awkward if not downright difficult. The only way to achieve a close shave with this head is to rotate the shaver 90 degrees requiring some dexterity given the additional need for moving the shaver in a circular motion. The older round shaving heads are far more superior and better at their job.All told, the 9860 Prestige is simply the best Norelco available and in my opinion the best electric shaver including foil shavers that is available today.

I've been using Philips electric shavers for over 50 years and this is the best yet. My previous model was a wet/dry shaver also. I always use with a shaving gel. This new model took a day or so to get used to but I'm finding it gives a significantly smoother shave, possibly due to the faster speed - I'm using it daily at the highest speed setting. Battery life is phenomenal; I've been using it for 6 weeks and I've only had to charge it once so far and the charging system is so easy and neat. OK, it's a bulkier bit of kit than my previous 7000 Series model and I wouldn't want to have to cart the charger around on holiday, but the battery life is such that one wouldn't have to and the carrying pouch isn't as bulky as some people have complained about. I was using the Braun S7 brand before which I was happy with, so I was really torn as to which brand to buy. Three things made me go for the Norelco S9000 Prestige. First, how quiet the razor was. I was on vacation with my brother-in-law when I noticed how quiet his Norelco was compared to my Braun. Second, the Norelco shaving head is suppose to last two years. The cost to replace it is the same price as the Brawn S9, which must be replaced about every 6 months. Third, the clean-up involves running water over the shaver head which is easy to remove and put back on. Doing a deeper clean by releasing the three rotating blades asemblies from the shaver head once a month is not difficult.
